Unshakeable Grey Knight Land Raider Pilot

Hi guys,
For me, the hardest part of wargaming is choosing a force to play, and after 4 years of collecting, I still haven't settled on an army to focus on. I've narrowed it down to Grey Knights, DKoK or Elysian Drop Troops
Help?!

collect them all, i know that sounds stupid but if you focus too much you can burn all the fun out of the hobby.
Choose 1 to main and 2 to collect casually. Main whatever you feel you have the most fun with or if win rate is a goal. Go with that.
simples
Currently i'm building up my CSM, but i've managed to trade and get second hand Nids and SM. So Tyranids is going to be my ebay army. and I'll trade only to gather my SM (maybe buy 1/2 special centerpeices)
Its actually a lot of fun just collecting the 2 casual giving yourself a budget for them and seeing how far you can take it.

I've only been playing 2 years and I have 4 armies, none of which I really have any preference for (except my SM, who I neglected... sometimes think about selling them).

Choose what models you like. Build a 1000point army to game with and move on to the next army that you like.

That sounds good, I thinks thats why I've never been able to settle, trying to focus on a particular force and everything. Thanks for the advice!

Your mix depends on how competitively and where you want to play. What many people often say is that the most important thing is the models, because you can grow into the play style and the tactics eventually. I tend to agree with that. Just pick one, don't look back until you have enough to be satisfied and start a new one. see Underacheiver's post.

Hey
Welcome to Dakka!
As others have said, get several. I have 4 armies and the variety really helps me stay sane, theres nothing worse than having to paint 50 of the same models back to back. So when I inevitably get bored of painting plague marines I can swap back to my bright purple DE, if I get bored of that I can have another go at some wave serpents and when that gets boring there's still my bloodcrushers to paint! Mix it up, it makes the painting/modeling side of the hobby more interesting.

Yeah, I know what you mean! I bought a Necron Battleforce once, and I've still got sprues left over because I got so bored of silver and green XD
I'll probably invest into some Emporers Children and maybe some DE, add a bit of dark variety
Thanks everyone

In terms of options, I don't want to sound clichèd, but MEQs in of themselves give you a very wide variety of themes, playstyles, and therefore models to collect. Also, you can paint them quite literally any colour in hell, screw Citadel, in the DULUX paint range. And your opponents will not complain, and it will always look right if you do it well. But, seeing as you've highlighted GEQs, the same idea applies I guess....

3 years, 3 armies, just play what is fun first, then play what will get you wins, that's what I do.

Well, obviously that's natural progression from social to p/m to competitive...

I've really taken to the idea of an Elysian Drop Troops force with Imperial Navy units and a WWII theme, y'know, with Shark teeth on the nose, 40/50's pin up girls on the side, that sort of thing Obviously that'd be mainly Forge World products, which would require more funds, but It'd be worth it I guess. On top of that, DKoK would add a little Grim-ness (thats a word, right?), and then maybe something from GW like GK would be cool as well. Anyone know what these armies play like? I've never really picked up the game, I've always just modelled and painted, but I hope to pick it up with my new army (or three) in the near future

Just read up on some IG regimental fluff and found a regiment that could be fun to work with: "The Vintor 823rd is known only for being completely wiped out and re-founded under the same name and number no less than nine different times in one decade" Could be interesting... Thanks for all the welcomes and advice, I think I'm going to enjoy being a part of Dakka :~)
