I'm a Coventry University student who, in order to combat excessive boredom as well as needing an impulse-buyer-syndrome fix, bought myself a tau battleforce and everything to get it painted fairly nicely.

That was last week, since then, I've painted the whole lot, as well as starting a gun-drone squad, two hammerheads, a sniper team and three more squads of fire warriors.

I'm not totally new to Games Workshop and have previously collected Space Marines (Ultra Marines, Dark Angels and Black Templars), Orks, Tyranids and Imperial Guard, that being said, my painting skills need work (though by sheer perseverance alone, there's a massive improvement just over the course of the last week, mostly, it's remembering those little finishing touches that I struggle with).

I know some of the rules, but so far haven't really ever played (One of the lads at the Coventry GW took me through a squad-on-squad, single turn very briefly the other day - which was extremely polite of him given I'd disturbed him from a game with one of the regular customers). I'm eager to learn and have learnt enough to confidently build what I'd call "building block" armies for 500 (specifically designed at this level and with wargear etc in mind so I can have a decent go against the black reach armies in the local store, before I go up against something more complex), 1000 and 1500pts; the 500pt army is finished as I said, but my other two rosters are barebones (units and mandatory wargear only), so I have room to put them together as I learn. My end-of-year objective is to build to 3000pts, then after that I'll build to apocalypse levels. I intend to build my army methodically by adding 500pts at a time, so I always have a roster put together for every usual increment from 500 to 5000.

My army has a slightly different paintjob; I've modelled it on modern-issue British camouflage (mtp), so thats khaki, tan, light green, dark green and brown. I'm adding a few nideks painted differently as I've been going for a "to hell and back" look overall - alternative paintjobs, to me, help simulate a unit that's suffered heavy losses and as such, numbers have had to be made up from other nearby forces.

Finally, now you have some background; I've joined DakkaDakka with a view to generally improving my modelling skill, learning how to play (with a view to one day creating a complex board to play on with some experimental rules of my own) and also finding local players so as I don't have to pester the local GW fellas all the time!

Tau eh? The camo scheme for your guys sounds really interesting, put pictures up when you can, it'd be cool to see.

There's tutorials around for painting and modelling if you want to improve, but just practice can be best sometimes. Also, saying about local players? I'm not that far from Coventry lol.
