I think it's pretty enthralling to name at least your HQ.

I have a Blood Raven Space Marine army led by a Librarian. I called him Librarian Corvus Cruentus. It means Raven stained with blood.

my Ork Warboss is Hagsnot Manglegore, and his personal Big Mek is Ironkrank. The Nobs I might name someday, but the Boyz are just a nameless horde.

My warboss is KoltTeef GreenGotz. If i ever get around to finishing him.

My deff dread converted from a dreadknight is Stompy, while my all DCCW deff dread from the new plastic kit is Clompy. They frolic across the field together, wrecking face and spreading the WAAAGH!

Company Commander Midas

Originally modeled to have a golden powerfist and an injured arm. Says his mother got the name from some fairy tale book.

So far I just name the HQ, vehicles and squads. May expand it out to include squad sergeants as well.

My current army leader is Canoness Alphonsine III. Kind of sort of has a bit of background like the army but haven't really bothered fleshing it out yet.

Dark Apostle Kelroth. Every member of my band is named, so are the vehicles, so are the weapons. There's no point spending hundreds of pounds on a creative hobby and not putting some extra effort in, so everything has a story. Why does that squad paint their helmets with skulls? Why is there a defeated Space Marine chained to the front of that Rhino? How did he acquire that weapon or that trophy?

I have named my entire wanderers Knight Host, every marine has a name, except the guys on the bikes and landspeeder. lol.
for my Crusaders I have named all the headquarters guys and the veteran sarges i like.

Wolf Lord Arjac Flameson and rune priest Odin Stormborn lead my Space Wolves.

All the independent characters, vehicles, squad and sergeant are named in my SM army. Some even have a bit of fluff attached to them.

Orks are similar (my loota are 'Da Dakka Ladz', Nobz are 'Da Murda Boyz', etc), except I didn't go as far as naming the sergeants/nobz yet... I find orks name harder to come by for some reasons.

I name my vehicles, but generally only put names on my infantry if there is a place on their armor for a name.

Warboss 1 is "deffstompa"

warboss 2 is "stompydeff"

just throw "stomp" kill" "gut" hack" "boot" "blood" and "boss" together, and you can get something 99% of the time...

My Company Commander is called General Grigory Lieven, leading the Knight Slayers company (anti-GK company wiith lots of plasma and some executioners).

The sounds it makes too. In fact, write them onto some rocks then drop them on the ground to let it name the Orks for you in an Orky way.

I'm trying to put a name on all my units, specifically on the front of their base, which works nicely with armies that do not feature a lot of infantry for their points. The names I'm using for my Sisters are predominantly French or Latin, sometimes Greek. Here is a cool website that features lists of names from all around the world, complete with their meaning, if anyone's interested in such resources.

For some time I even had a habit of keeping track how individual models "performed" on the battlefield, planning to "reassign" names from particularly "bad" minis to a Repentia squad.

All the independent characters, vehicles, squad and some Marines are named in my BT-Crusade. Some even have a bit of fluff attached to them.

Every Independent Character and most of the squad leaders in all of my armies have names, though only the ICs have more detailed backstory.

My personal favorite is my Tzeentch Sorcerer Odysseus, a Fallen Angel, who was the villain in a houseruled 40k RPG I ran years ago and just had to be immortalized with a miniature because the players hated him so much.

My scout sargent with a powerfist is named Karl Marx. And my chaplain is named Mr. Fistycups

My Tau 'Shaso is 'Hunter Cadre Swamp Inferno Shaso'O Commander Tash'var Swampcore'.

also named all the leaders of each group and each crisis suit.

All the time.

My Guard commander is Major Lucius Sharpe of the 444th Cadian Mechanised, and he is usually assisted by elements of Colonel Hashim Akbar Abraham's 47th Tallarn Armoured Regiment and Hauptman Konrad Albrecht's Mordian 8th Artillery Company.

My Ultramarines are commanded by Captain Casca Maine.

My Inquisitorial forces usually rotate around Inquisitor Percivus Yule of the Ordo Malleus, Inquisitrix Keira Jade of the Ordo Hereticus, Inquisitrix Ariana Masters of the Ordo Hereticus, or Inquisitor Lord Ashish Khallid of the Ordo Spectatoris.

And my Chaos army has the most, a rotating roster (depending on who's been banished/re-summoned) of Excommunicate Traitoris Captain Horatio Lethus (ex-Ultramarine Captain, now Khornate Daemon Prince), Ar'nok the Bitter (Dark Apostle of Khorne), Trel'ek the Lesser (Ar'nok's right hand man), Lord Krawl (of the Alpha Legion) and half a dozen others.

The most celebrated character of all our characters though is the Chaos Dreadnought by the name of Triple-Corpse Hammer-Blow, who gained that name by being both un-killable and by somehow being able to take down all targets with amazing easy with his TL-Autocannon.

I named my Chaplain Arcturus The Eternal Warrior after he survived around 157 Boy attacks in CC before going down. It was a Winter Map, so I thought the name was appropriate.

I've promoted him to Reclusiarch, used him as my HQ to this day.

I named some of my other BA units after characters in the novels. (My Dread is Arkio the Redeemed... my heavily bionically enhanced Tactical Sergeant is Koris, things like that)

In my Crimson Fists I name most of my sergeants, captains, some dreadnoughts, and some command squad guys. My Orks I only name my warboss and big mek. Iron Warriors I only name my lords, and with my Wolves I named every single Wolf Guard. They all had names on their bases and it actually made keeping track of wound allocation much easier.

I name Commanders, Squad Leaders and one man squads.

Other than that, they are nameless.

I named every single one of my marines once...

Then again, that's about 20 of them

I definately name command units and sometimes seargants.

Actually, Rogukiel is the name of my company master.

People give names to my Knights of Blood, as do they fo Orks. They only dont get the names for the High Lordies.

Daemon prince #2 - Hell Girl (like hellboy but with a golden g-string and boobies)
Soulgrinder - Banana-Rama (cause hes bad, just like the band....old fogies know who i mean )

Herald of tzeentch - Gymni Kricket (the tzeentch lord model)

Everyone else is called "go get em"

In my Imperial Guard and Blood Angels I usually give them name after they have done something heroic or outstanding. The more I play with certain models the more they get fleshed out and a name slowly comes to them.

I think its the best way, for them to earn their name!

Yes, I name the command in both my armies.
I have Eldar Farseer Petriel, Autarch Erestril and Gyrinx Murzion, as well as IG Colonel Alan Snape and Lieutenant Andrzej Agonsky.
But there are special cases when I name soldiers too. My first painted Guardsman is called Jurgen after Commissar Cain's aide, and my Ratlings are named Frodo Bagman, Sam, Pippin, Merry and Bilbo. And I have Eldar Guardian without the helmet called Shaggiel because he resembled Shaggy from Scooby-Doo.
