There's a guy who just started coming to my LGS who says he hasn't played since early 4th edition. He brought in all of his marines and I helped him make a list. It ended up being a 1600 point list (I know, weird number, but he said he wanted to use everything he had, and i couldnt fit it all into 1500).
Chapter Master-170
relic blade, SS
10 Terminators-460
2 assault cannons
Dred-115
assault cannon, DCCW
Dred-105
multimelta, DCCW
10 man Tac squad-185
flamer, missile, sgt w/pwr weapon
10 man Tac squad-175
melta, missile
10 man Tac squad-175
melta, missile
Land Speeder-90
typhoon launcher
Vindicator-125
seige shield
1600
I know some of the wargear choices are odd, but he wanted it to match what he had on the models.
I was going to use some of my dark eldar stuff but he had to leave early. Now that I have a week to plan, I've decided to use my nids instead. Mostly because they are so much easier to understand than DE, but also because they havent seen the table in almost a year. This is the list I've made:
Hive Tyrant-260
LW/BS, TL devourers, adrenal glands, armored shell, old adversary, leech essence, paroxysm
10 Yealers-230
3 Zoanthropes-180
3 Hive Guard-150
12 Genestealers-228
scything talons, toxin
15 Hormagaunts-120
toxin
15 Hormagaunts-120
toxin
10 Termagaunts-60
toxin
Trygon-250
prime, adrenal glands
1598
Do you think I should make any changes the nid list?

Toxin on Genestealers? There's really no reason to put them on, it actually limits their usage. They'd already get a 4+ no matter what against SM's. Instead, I'd give them adrenals. Same point cost for Furious charge, which ups their strength and initiative on the assault, and gives them plausible Tank-killing power.
Otherwise, I don't see anything that stands out.

At first, I thought the same thing, but then I remembered that poisoned CC attacks let you re-roll to wound if your strength is equal to or higher than the enemy's toughness. So i figured 4+ rerollable would be better than 3+. As for tank killing, yes, they'd be better with adrenal glands, but I just dont have the points for them (i guess i could replace scything talons with glands, but as the marine list is mostly infantry, I dont think I need to specialize against tanks).

Toxin Sacs over Adrenal on the stealers every day.
Termagants really aren't doing anything useful. I'd drop them. Zoans could use a spore.
Personally not a fan of the ymgarl stealers (they take up elite slots I'd rather use on other stuff). A unit of 10 also has a risk of having too large a foot-print for the terrain they pop up out of.

So your planning on tailoring your list? You're meant to be helping this person to learn how to play the game, not taking every opportunity you can to curb stomp a newbie. Tailoring is always a bit of a TFG move, but doing it when trying to get someone back into the game seems extremely unfair.

@Nungunz
Yeah the zoans could use a pod, but I dont have a conversion made, and I dont like the idea of using proxys. The termagaunts are a back objective holder anyway. This list isnt really meant to be totally optimized, and the yealers can be kind of fun.
@Gorechild
Fine, it was a stupid thing to say. Im not sure why i said that as thats not what im trying to do at all. Besides, Id take toxin over adrenal glands against a mech list anyway.
