Ok, so I am a lore junky, and I understand that the lore is merely there for the setting...but...I LOVE the idea of the Primarchs. Id love to hear your thoughts on the below. And yes...ive been using the search function. I'm hoping there are some nuggets not yet explored.

Roboute Guilliman - Fulgrims deamon slashed him, to save his life the put him in stasis. I'm reading the Ultramarines Omnibus and in the first couple of pages it clearly states that his in stasis..but he is dead. I know some believe he is slowly healing and that it is nearly impossible. So what is it? Is he dead? or near death?

Lion El'Jonson - Dead? In stasis in the Rock? Do the DA's know that he is there? I'm guessing only the chapter master knows where he is. Do they explain anything about his situation other than the Watcher of the Dark look after him. What exactly are they looking after? He should have recovered by now surely?

Jaghatai Khan - "lost in the Webway". So he went after some DE and got lost in the Webway? Convenient? GW just writes a couple of sentences and he is lost to us? From what I've read he is assumed KIA. White Scars...another chapter thats under developed by GW...Genghis Kahn...in space...thats cool in my book.

Leman Russ - Went into the EoT. Never to be heard from again. My understanding is that he got a vision, packed his things and left. Either looking for the tree of life or trying to kill Magnus. Didnt he take the 13th with him? They are still around, where the hell is he??

Vulkan - MIA. Nobody knows where he is, just old the Salamanders to find some stuff he left behind and now he's gone. Some sources even say he died. What do we know?

Corax - Got into a shuttle heading for the EoT, gone. I find it hard to believe he would just get tired of it all after all he's done and accomplished and quit.

Alpharius and Omegeon - One dead...one alive or both alive and one of the members of the Alpha Legion stepped in to take on Rowboat. May be evil, may not be evil

My theory is that the brothers that just got up and left got some sort of message from the Emperor and are doing something for him. It just doesnt seem plausible that they would leave their legions behind for no good reason, not even Corax. He cared enough about them to do all the things he did, just to get upset and leave them to their own devices? Those guys had strength of character that we cant even begin to comprehend (even Fulgrim...). I know that its Grim Dark in 40k, but I would have loved some sort of hope from GW's side. What could inspire more hope than the return of some of the Primarchs? Now that things are as desperate as they are.

Thoughts?

Hope isn't grimdark enough.

Yeah, the primarchs are boss.

Unfortunately GW leaves things vague on purpose. There is no correct answer to a lot of your questions.

Or neither died. All alpha legion marines looked alike. Alpharius and Omegeon were even able to have rank and file marines pass for one of them. What's more, there might not have even BEEN twins. That might have just been yet another ruse!

Thing is, they didn't just 'up and leave'. They stuck around for a couple of HUNDRED years apiece, and that is AFTER a 250 year crusade and 50-100 years on their planets alone. Their father was death, their brothers left them, and the imperium seemed secure. As far as theories go, I prefer theories that have at least some hints in the fluff. This just feels like wistful thinking. In the end, the moral of the story of the primarchs is that in spite of all their power they were only human, capable of all the mistakes and frailties of any man. After 500+ years of loss and hardship, and becoming increasingly unnecessary and ineffectual (in the time most of them left the empire was stable and governing authority had been removed from their hands due to paranoia) the most of then went out to questing to try and accomplish something meaningful. I find that very understandable.

Yeah, I've always felt the same about Russ at least. He lost faith in the Imperium, maybe even saw what it was becoming.

Corax tried to improve his legion and almost destroyed it. When he eventually fixed the problem, he felt guilty, and to avoid needing to do it again, he left. (Nevermore)

I think that (although I have nothing at all to back this up) Khan got captured and is now tied up in Commoragh to act as Vects play thing.

As Coolyo said, Rowboat was put in stasis at the split second before he died.

I believe Russ and Vulkan have said they will return at some point, but I'm not certain on details. Marine fluff isn't one of my strong points.

Sleeping for almost 10 000 years? But do the Dark Angels know he is there? I havent read anything to show that they know where he is.

I could support that. I mean, if GW came out and said it, I'd be chill. Jaghatai was legit, but he was a bit of a hothead, so I could see DE trapping him, then doing their torture thing.
Commoragh rescue mission would be an amazing White Scars story, though.

They have no idea. The only things that know where he is are the Watchers in the Dark, a form of Daemon or alien, can't remember which, and the Emperor.

That the Lion is sleeping in the Rock is mentioned in Codex: Angels of Death as 'the final secret', but conspicuously absent from later editions, which makes me wonder whether the studio may have intended discreetly to retcon it.

Maybe we'll find out when the Horus Heresy series is done...

It's my understanding that no-one knows that the Lion is at the centre of the rock except the Watchers In The Dark. Also, his body is very much alive but his soul is off chasing butterflies somewhere.

Leman Russ is still alive (a marine from the 13th clearly says so in the Space Wolf series, last book I believe). I think that there are two possibilities which are 1) He decided to 'do a Beowulf' and strip off all of his armour and run around naked, covered in blue woad, just because he can or...2) He has been mind blasted by Magnus and is eeking out a living as a wheat farmer on some agri world somewhere believing himself to be someone...he...isn't?

Just a thought anyway.

Wishful thinking indeed! The real question - which it would be interesting to see addressed in the fluff someday - is whether the Alpha Legion are still trying to exterminate humanity for their xenos overlords, or just serving Chaos like their traitor brothers.

Yes Indeed! If the reason for their treason actually was for the greater good of humanity then the question you have to ask is... Why did no-one else with serious psychic ability foresee them doing this or the need for them doing this? - this includes Big Mags! - Though I cannot deny that I would very much like to see their true intentions revieled and perhaps the redemption of the Alpha Legion and fall of a loyal chapter(a popular one) just to mix things up a little!

HIDING IN METAL BAWKSES!

I've always been a bit perplexed with Vulkan. I wish we were told why he went off on his own. With the other loyal Primarchs we know at least the general direction where they were heading (like Russ going towards the Eye of Terror). But the case of Vulkan seems to be a true mystery.

The Cabal's is one of the more significant unresolved plot threads from the Horus Heresy series (since we know, of course, how the campaign itself will end). My own speculation is that it will be revealed that the Emperor's (slightly nonsensical, as many people have pointed out) plan to 'starve Chaos' was a sham, concealing his own intention to harness the belief of countless billions of humans in science and reason, becoming an actual god, equal and opposite to the gods of Chaos, and that it was this the Cabal intended to prevent.

As to the Alpha Legion, the most likely option on present information would seem to be that they (and possibly the Cabal too) were duped and they're now just as corrupt and crazy as the rest of the traitors, but I wouldn't be disappointed if the studio came up with something more interesting - it might even turn out that some of them have seen through the xenos' lies and are attempting to set the universe aright, making them indeed loyal after all!

I think that what could happen is the Alpha Legion could redeem themselves and reveal that they were allied with chaos for so long to try and seek out a cure for the Emperor without the burden of the corrupt imperium

...despite the fact that none of this has ever been hinted at? The Alpha Legion joined Chaos hoping to destroy it. Now they're either evil, having long forgotten their original role, or are pursuing goals that aid humanity, despite appearing to help Chaos. Like an inside man the Imperium don't know they have.
