True, but do we really need those options? Goliath for example have access to stub cannons or shotguns, why would they need lasguns or autoguns? No power sword but brute cleaver and power hammer, other than the improved 2H axe. Having slighly different access to wargear across the factions is also a way to differentiate them without going full 40k with dedicated layered rules.

I converted a couple of dudes with heavy bolter and heavy stubber because their plastic kits don't have a single ranged heavy weapon, and both those weapons can be selected at gang creation. I always avoid options that aren't included in Book of X under Leader's list, for all my gangs.

Why would they not need them? You're simply removing the most common weapons of the human race, after all. And there's marked differences between stub cannons or shotguns and lasguns or autoguns...

I don't really think that the Necro gangs needed that much differentiation to begin with, other than the differences they already have with skills and starting stats, and the differences that appear in play and by the fact of being "your guys" and having "your turf" and "your grudges". That's way more than enough differentiation, and much more meaningfull, to booth.

IMHO, that kind of differentiation, or of limits just because limits, is kind of bogus.

You can keep killing the messenger dude!

It’s bad form.

One in three? Sure, keeps everyone on their toes. But all of them? Excessive.

Worth keeping in mind the Warhammer Community Article explains these dregs are intended to be followers of others, such a Guild, Fallen Noble etc.

So whilst the kit is undoubtedly limited, I’d suggest we need to see the rules and how such gangs actually work.

If as the article suggests they’re largely just making up numbers, then a wide variety of weapons is less perhaps less desirable, as they’re not really expected to the heavy lifting the way Gangers are.

Plus, it’s not as if plastic is exactly difficult to convert with.

However you want to frame it, the sprue has been halved again in a game that's already used to getting half sized sprues compared to similar units elsewhere.

That I don’t disagree on.

Just interested to see how that may or may not impact them in-game.

Wait, if this is a half sprue, doesn't that mean that a box of them will be half price?

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Of course it's a half-sized sprue. They're putting 3 in the box.

It's a feth-ton more than what the Reds got. This is 7 weapon sets and 8 heads per 4 models. Reds got 2 options per torso, and 6 models in total in the box.

I mean, do we even know if these guys are going to have heavies an leaders? Aren't they meant to be tagging along with the forge world guilds and special characters?

That's what I'm thinking, the rules for them will have 10 or so pre-set leaders (and heavies) and these guys are the cannon fodder.

Unless GW is planning to release an upgrade pack with additional weapons this set is worthless. I mean as a full stand alone and functioning faction at least, the miniatures do look pretty good as they are though.

For purposes I'd use the models, i.e. kitbashing with other kits, they seem fine.

I just want to know how the rules will work. I want a customisable gang I can use to represent various things. Venators were that, but their rules really seem a tad out of sync with the game as it currently stands, so perhaps these outcasts are an update of that concept?

Without knowing the rules it's a bit hard to make a judgement on their worth in that respect but for what their intended function appears to be; a hodgepodge collection of low end hive rejects, the flotsam of the Underhive with very basic weapons, I'd say it succeeds in that. Their faction strength probably depends on what (if any) other Outlaw weirdness they can bring to the table; it's not like the designers are averse to throwing in a gang concept that's more flavourful than actually effective (Slave Ogryns exist).

Even aside from that, the set has value as a means of players being able to build their own Hive Scum (or even low-budget Bounty Hunters).

Well it's not all that hodge podge since it has the smallest body and weapon variety outside Slave Ogryn.

That's a pretty low bar.

Personally I'm interested to find out what the trading post actually does. Maybe this is the final nail in the coffin for Gangs of the Underhive, as the Trading Post rules in that are, IIRC, the last thing in that book that has been reprinted/revised elsewhere.

At this point I'd be surprised if the trading post survives.

"No model, no rules"

GW no longer wants you to pick through IG and marine kits so you can make a ganger with a heavy bolter and power axe, they want to sell complete kits. Which is good because if you buy a kit you should be able to make anything the rules allow, but does stifle options.

There is no basis for this speculation. It just comes off as either ignorance (ie. a person who is involved in the GW ecosystem but doesn't actually play Necromunda, and is making assumptions about the equipment available to gangs throughout the iterations of the game so far without having actually experienced the rules themselves) or aggrieved axe-grinding (ie. a person who is generally displeased with the concept of "no model, no rules" and is trying as hard as they can to make it apply to every GW property, regardless of accuracy).

Certain people in this thread have been lamenting the application of "no model, no rules" to Necromunda for literal years, while being incorrect the entire time, and ignoring other people who correct them and submit actual, y'know, evidence, from our consensus reality.

If "no models, no rules" was the intended future paradigm for Necromunda you would think that the most recent kits and rulebooks would reflect that... but they do not. For example, the House of Iron book gave Orlocks access to mining weapons, but there were no mining weapons on the Orlock upgrade sprues (nor on the original Forgeworld weapon upgrade sets).

It can be kind of striking how masochistic some people are about this stuff. They hate the idea of "no models, no rules" so much -- which is fine, it's a very stupid policy -- that they imagine it existing in a system where it actually doesn't. I am fine with criticizing GW for their many (countless) actual feth-ups, but there are enough of those that you shouldn't have to invent fake ones of your own.

Not quite what I'd take the term to mean but fine; ramshackle or cobbled-together if you prefer.

I agree it could have done with a bit more body/outfit diversity but haven't really got a problem with the weapon options; it's a decent enough spread of common, low end gear. Tag in some spares from Cawdor, Orlock or Genestealer Cultist kits and you've got plenty to work with. SG are seemingly happier than the 'main' GW studio to acknowledge that not every option Needs a unique model and Necromunda tends to cater to more experienced hobbyists with a hefty bitz box, more willing to convert/kitbash. Not saying that's the better approach but for this kit alone I don't mind; it's very generic-ness is arguably its strength (again; not discounting that it could have been improved in terms of variety).

You can use the Dramatis Personae or Guilders, yes. But they stated that you can also create your own character(s). I suppose it's similar to the Venator gang characters with even more options (wyrd powers were mentioned). You pay for this creative freedom with the fact, that your minions (so most of the 'gang') are rather limited.
