If you could change the contents of an army's Battalion or Battleforce to suit your purchasing choices, playstyle, fluff, etc., how would you do so? For example, to suit my Fire Lords, I would change the Space Marine battleforce to two Tactical Squads, a Drop Pod and a Whirlwind. No HQs, metal models or finecast models are allowed, and try to keep it roughly the same price.

That's a damn good idea. Damn good. To suit my Necrons (Dynasty of the Unending abyss), I'd have an immortal/deathmark squad, a warrior squad, and a praetorian/lychguard squad.

Yep, I'd buy them both in a heartbeat. Unlike the current pair.

Golden.

Or, on a personal note and nothing more - I'd maybe trade in a wave serpent for a Wraithlord or a Fire Prism and the guardians for a bunch of jet bikes

Did you guys know Canada has a friggin desert?

CSM Battleforce: 15 marines 5 possessed 1 rhino 1 terminator lord. (It would be better since I can choose which god I want, and not have to stick with the khorne berzerkers)

You're not playing the game like I play it...why aren't you playing the game like I play it?! O_O

I personally don’t think the current CSM battleforce is any good. My version would be:

10 CSM
10 Khorne Berserkers
5 Chaos Terminators

Elite infantry would cost a bit more than the others, but I'd rather see different kinds of battleforces for IG than simply cadian or catachan (which I rarely if ever see sale)

Heh, there's nothing I would actually change with the Tyranid Battleforce. Not because it's perfect, but because it's not possible to stick with plastic and make it better.

The set itself is pretty much okay, though it could do with some oomph to make it stand out. But the things for Tyranids that add that oomph are either really expensive (Carnifexes, Trygons), Finecast (Hive Guard, Zoanthropes, Venomthropes) or both (I'm looking at you, Mr $100au Finecast Hive Tyrant).

I guess they could change out any one of the units for a box of Gargoyles, which a lot of people would appreciate. As it is, the Tyranid battleforce is great for bulking out an army, though not focussed enough for really starting an army.

The easy solution here is for GW to offer 20-25% off when ordering $130+. It would give people incentive to bother buying from them I guess.

I'll take my 3rd party suppliers 30% any day.

For my Tau, remove the kroot and add an extra squad of fire warriors. Would be golden.

I like the BA one as is, but add the razorback bits.

For Guard, as I play foot Guard, remove the Sentinel and add another command squad. That way, I can have each of those infantry squad have plasma guns, and maybe make some more HWTs.

This is something I've never understood. They make some plastics for the starter sets that were previously only metal (Skaven weapon teams, Ork deffcoptas) which, while not as complex as other multi-part plastic kits, people would still buy. Yet they don't release them outside of the starter sets. It's like refusing to accept money.

I don't think there's been any finecast models in the battleforces... Oh well, maybe there will be plastic howling banshees once the new Eldar codex comes out

I always thought battalions and battleforce boxes should have been more like an "army starter" box.. so I would package each one with the mandatory 1 HQ and 2 troops, plus 1 additional item either a transport, or maybe elite or fast attack choice.

The IG battleforces would be a good example, but in this case those are more like 1 platoon.

THIS exactly. Hell, they should charge a little more and include the army's codex and a mini rulebook. It would be a great way to get people into playing, if they don't want the 2 small starter armies in AOBR.

Yeah but then people wouldn't buy AOBR

yeah they need the mini rulebook in the starter set, but they could include the codex in the battleforce or do it like a bundle where you buy both together and save a little.

I liked the old army deals they used to do when a new army came out and it came with the codex/army book. It'd be nice if they could bring that back, even if it was just a direct only kind of thing, to save them from printing up special boxes for it, etc.

Years ago I bought the Orcs & Goblins army in a box... it came with 2 copies of the army book by mistake!

Re-doing the Chaos Space Marine battle force;

Ten Chaos Space Marines
One Chaos Lord
Five Terminators

Chaos Daemons;

Twenty Bloodletters
Twenty Horrors

The Space Wolf Battleforce is crap for anyone other than a newbie - sure it's got 2 units of Grey Hunters/Blood Claws, but it's also got Scouts and a Drop Pod... Scouts are cool, but you don't need more than 5 most of the time, and Drop Pods are more attuned to a specific playstyle. Personally, I'd trade the Drop Pod for a Rhino/Razorback. As for the Scouts, maybe some Long Fangs.
