In order to be able to participate in tournaments, one must have a fully painted army/armies. I'm a good gamer, but terrible at painting. Hopefully my sucky painting will not cause me to suffer too much in the overall score.

I am ranting too much. Here is my 97% finished LRC.

Next is my 80% finished Assault Terminator Sergeant. His TH arm is being painted seperately (still in chaos black).

And here is my simple conversion of the Emperor's Champion, maintaining his traditional Black-painted Armour of Faith. Never thought painting a black-armoured figure would be very difficult.

Tournament in Dec' 17th. I still have 6 Assault Terminators & 6 Initiates/Space Marines to be painted. Time is running out.

That champion is absolutely fine. he's got enough highlights to give him depth, he's got a selection of colours with good distribution, and he's based up on a base with a blacked-out rim. He's the definition of acceptable, imo. Honestly I wish more people in my local store put this much effort into their minis, the tables would look a lot nicer.

Criticism, then? Yes - that old bugbear, mould lines. Your champion has a couple and they really detract from an othewise nice mini.

There's something not quite right about your terminator, too - he's kinda glossy looking. Was he still drying when you snapped the pic, or did you wash him with ink, or..?

Anyway, keep it up, you're doing fine.

Did you know? The Reach belongs to the Forsworn.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Those look pretty good. They are certainly much better to play against than unpainted figures and are a nice tabletop standard.

See, this is why I love 40k.

You don't HAVE TO HAVE ANY SKILL TO PAINT MODELS WELL.

Sure, there will always be a difference in painting level between someone who just tries hard, and someone who has a natural talent.

But the truth is, even if you suck seriously hard at painting, if you just put some effort into it you can get nice looking models out of it.

You say you suck at painting... but those models look fine to me. You may not win any awards, but you are very far from anything remotely "bad".

Seriously, you don't suck. These are all at Least table top quality. I'm guessing you used a spray paint to get the red on the landraider and terminator? That might be whats giving it a slightly glossy appearance, but I think it works with the ceramite of Space Marine armor. One criticism is the scroll on the front of the landraider. I would have gone with a creamy color like bleached bone or similar, but thats just my taste. Over all good job, don't be so hard on yourself. We can't all be golden demon winners, I'm just happy to play against someone who has a painted army.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

You might want to take some superglue to the LR as the track guard has not stuck down properly.

But otherwise reasonably solid paint jobs. Might suggest picking up some washes just to add some depth to the colours with minimal effort.

Very serviceable. It is nice to see that even if you don't love the painting aspect you take everything to the next level with washes and appropriate levels of detail. Nothing comes off as flat or one tone. The hobby would be a better place with more players like you.

I'm going to have to agree. These look quite nice to my eye. A good amount of painted detail, nice volume and form. I would love to see a table full of your pieces.

I wouldn't worry about your painting. It a nice, crisp, tabletop level scheme that I doubt anyone would complain about playing against. I would, however, fix the headlight chassis bowing on the landraider that was previously mentioned.

Stick to painting, you can't be that good at gaming

Seriously though, some nice work. The LR could use a little more highlighting but looks better than anything I have completed to date. I'd echo the same comments, just fix the cosmetics.

Terminator and the Emps Champ both look great. Nice work.

This.

I think your models look fine and I'd be pleased to game against someone with an army like that. Your land raider does look a bit crooked, though.

Wow! Those are some nice comments you guys are giving to me. Now I'm much more motivated to finish painting my models before the D-Day!

The thing is, I'm surrounded by quite a lot of top-almost-masterclass painters (like my own brother-check out my previous threads), it is quite depressing when we have the psrticipants' armies showcasing for the Army Presentation Score, I would almost always be at the bottom five.

Oh well, one can only do his best.

I'll now concentrate more to finish painting my models, then I'll post the pics of the whole army here. Thanks for your support guys. Really appreciate it.

I wouldn't kick any of those off my table unless you wanted to play on the floor, and I have three Golden Demons. You're good man. Solid technique, good use of washes and shading, and you base your models, which is what sets us apart from the animals, really.

Your painting, while basic, is nothing to be ashamed of. You paint to a fine tabletop standard which is more than a lot of people can say. I appreciate your effort given that you don't view yourself as much of a painter. Job well done.
