Hello,

So I've played DoW/DoW2/Space Marine for a while now and never really got into any table top game before. I ended up getting a new job in IT where a few friends already worked, and found out that they were all starting a Warhammer 40k group. I was the last one to join and now I just have the urge to battle and battle. I've only played 2 games so far as we all only get together and play once a week but I have the urge to get more games in. As I was the last one in the group and I didn't want to pick an army other people had I went with the AoBR kit as a friend needed more Orks anyway so I kept the SM. Since then I've managed to get up to 1000pts (although only about 750 are built) even though we only play 500pt games and after watching battle reports after battle report to calm the urge to play I think I want to pick up another army of Tyranids. I know I should probably just sit with my SM for a while and play but I have a tendency to pick up a new hobby and jump in deep at the beginning. I've almost painted all my units so far and the more I get into it the more I enjoy painting. I guess what I need is just a kind of variety so that when I get sick of painting salamander green on 20 space marines I can pick up a tyranid with a completely different color scheme to satisfy my need for variety. Anyway, I'm hoping to actually get out tomorrow to the local GW shop they opened nearby to play my first public game.

Do people in public/store games mind playing 500pt/750pt games for newcomers? Everytime I go into that shop to pick up a new unit, I see massive armies, do most people accommodate new players and drop to a lower points list and mind playing a bit slower so they can learn?

Also if anyone knows if anyone is selling a decently priced Tyranid starter army please let me know here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/417941.page

Anyway, cya all around

Welcome to Dakka! To answer your question, I don't think people mind that much if you're playing a small points game. They'll understand when you tell them you're just starting out.
