No pics to update, as the tank is still curing. I had to make a press-mold of the rounded end so I could make the same rounded end on the other side, but I think it will work great. It's actually the right size to go either horizontal or vertical, so I will post some mock-up pics tomorrow of both ways, see what you guys think. Thinking of what I have so far, the boiler may HAVE to be horizontal, so that it is over the heat source better. The square part on the back of the walker is going to be the "heat source", and the boiler will be attached above and to the rear of that. with hoses and such all over the place. Something like this.

Looking good!

By the way what do you use to make your molds and cast with them?

For simple things, I press mold using Instant Mold, and for the material I use either ProCreate (Gray Stuff, or GS) for small things, but for larger things, I use Apoxie Sculpt, which cures harder, but allows for less detail transfer, but it sands and smooths out better than GS.

For things I want many copies of, I use Smooth-On mold rubber and resin. It works very well, I just need to get better at it. But it is so much fun to see an exact replica of something you made come out of the mold!

For the tank, I used a highlighter marker, and cut the tip off, and cut about a 1 inch section of the barrel of the marker. I used Apoxie Sculpt to round off one end, let it cure overnight, sanded and polished it smooth, then made a press mold of the rounded end. I have the other end in the pressmold right now at home, with Apoxie Sculpt curing onto the marker barrel. I will sand and polish it tonight, and see how it looks. I should have some pics tomorrow.

I shall see if I can find a place to buy some Instant Mold then!
Thank for letting me know.

It's great stuff, there are other brands too, I haven't used any others yet though. Lots of places to find it. I used Amazon.

This is a link to InstaMorph on Amazon. Similar, but different. I want to try it out.

Just Google Instant Mold, you'll find some.

I whent to Micheal's on sunday and couldn't tell what would work or not..
I had found stuff to cast with but nothing to make molds with...

Thanks again and again I'm loving the walker so far!

Yeah, it's hard to know what will work, and what you will like to work with. I have a list of other stuff I want to try at some point, but I have to wait until I have a bigger work area. I am already spilling dangerously over my imaginary line in the dining room, and will need to rearange stuff soon.

Sorry about the Knight Titan sketch! Go for it, what is the worst that can happen? I know you'll make it look good, you hjave some great scratch builds!

Jake, I'm thinking double, vertical boilers would look cool!

Double vertical would look pritty good...
But I think that a large horizontal is still more steamy..

Update!

Well, if I went with double vertical, I would have to find different boilers, but let me know what you think of these:
Horizontal Boiler - Back:

Side:

Vertical Off-set Boiler - Back:

Side:

Also, Vik asked a while ago for pics of the ball and socket joints for the shoulders and hips:

Hip on the left, shoulder on the right.

Let me know which Boiler configuration you preffer! I don't have to go with only one option. I can make variants, even a diesel-like engine at some point for a "not quite so Steampunk" look.

Personnaly, I like the horizontal for this tank, and if I can make some smaller tanks, I'll go for double vertical with those.

Thanks for looking,

RSJake

well... the off set look...wait for it...off... if you do a second one then i am buying that idea... otherwise the horizontal one gets my for now...

as for your joints... those shapes look very good! i think you can be very proud of that clean and smooth work... this will later on provide with excellent posability!!! with such work you are very trustworthy as an artist and a salesman! and no... i am not trying to butter you up for a future buy^^...lol...

by the way... i noticed a lot of green plastic used in this build...where do you get all those nice fitting looking plastic bitz?

Thanks guys! I'm digging the horizontal tank now too. And when I cast the tank...after mucho rivets of course! I'll set two in the vertical possition and see what that looks like.

I had the vetical one off-set to leave room for a smokestack. I may still have that as an option.

On the joints, thanks Vik, it was a good bit of trial and error to get this system, but I like it. Yes, posability is the word! I like options.

The lighter green "tubes" is a green highlighter marker that I cut up. Just one, and I still have a bit left! The darker green is the Apoxie Sculpt I mentioned earlier in one or the other of my threads. It holds less detail than GS, so not good for sculpting, but it cures much harder, so it's great for filling cracks and making press mold stuff that isn't too small, and after sanding and polishing, it's even shiney!

ah yeah... i recall that stuff again...

and the highlighter marker... yep...Facepalm: you ´ve mentioned that earlier on... i am getting old...

the combo with the smokestack...ok... when you do that i will hold my final vote^^ till then

Dude looking awesome!
My vote is as always was.. For the win!... I mean the vertical tank.

I like the furnace box that you've built under the tank.
As well I think that the joints are amazing and will offer amazing flexability to poses!

Great job so far and I can't wait to see more!
