True, but it's 40k after all. And those guys are called heavies, aren't they. Oversized guns are a difficult topic, have you ever seen a 1:1 lasgun, looks ridiculous, like all 40k guns. I like that lack of realism though and I believe in light weight material, hidden suspensions and artificially enhanced muscles.

That's a good point in regards to the masks. I'm thinking I might just use the cadian rebreathers, and maybe alter those a bit. Luckily, I have plenty of time to figure it out, with all the projects I've started. Just bought a Goliath gang and bits, so I think that will make necromunda project #5. I'll get it all done one of these days!

I used a cadian rebreather on my gang leader, looks ok, nothing special, but they do the job.
I know what you mean, my necromunda projects are too numerous as well, plus I still intend to convert and paint the complete I54mm range. (Even worse I'm seriously tempted to start a dark heresy group...must resist!)
Well my income tax declaration is due tomorrow, so I won't have much time to paint either.

In other news, I've spent some more hours on the centerpiece for my upcoming game table and I can tell you, it will be quite big, wip pics soon.

I've been playing for a year now. My party has just recently ascended and my character is now an interrogator.

The game is incredibly fun. The Player Characters are extremely mortal, and the longer they live, the more insane and disturbed they become. It's very grimdark. I highly recommend it.

lol @ samwellfrm's sig.
I would also like to encourage this venture into DH. Not because I have played it, but because I have been using some of the material from that series of RPG books to help figure out how to model some characters. All of the games seem very cool and in depth.

Thx Igandris.

About DH, I'm currently reading the core rules, for inspiration mainly, but I really like them. I'm an Inquisitor afficionado and always enjoyed the rpg aspects of the specialist games, so I'm very likely to fall for DH. My only concern is that it could distract me from our already slow-going necromunda campaign. I think it would be best to postpone DH a little, too much hobby stuff already and too much real life on top of it.

Anyway, no news for today, no time for the hobby, I'm rearranging my library atm and used the little time left to play my last not-yet-20 character in DOW2's last stand mode. Fun game! I'm almost done with that though and I die to get back to my conversions soon.

If we wanted realism we would not be doing this, though I always try to have some reasoning behind my work, which I you most certainly have considering your masterfully detailed minis. I would at least consider an colonial marine smart gun suspension or the like though. But as I said, it does look totally awesome anyway!

Always outnumbered, never outgunned.

Yeah I like those suspensions stylewise, but that is reserved for my autocannon heavy, the conversion is half done, I don't want them all to have that. About the reasoning I'm just like that, it has to make some sense. In this case I decided muscle implants and stimulants are enough to justify the missing suspension.
I also like the concept of anti gravity suspension pads, like those you can buy in Inquisitor. Maybe a bit too fancy for necromunda, but then again the gang is supposed to be techy.

So I'm officially approved by the author of Inquisimunda now! Thanks mate, I'd be happy to get some comments from you.

In other news, it feels GOOD to be back! I think it's been more than a week since I last had the time or power to climb up to my workshop and do some conversion-magic. All the other days I just settled with playing some DOW or just going to sleep early, when I finally had some free time.
Today I spent an hour or two trying to pick up some project again, but felt not in the shape to get back into an elaborate conversion, so I decided to go for something simple, yet necessary.

So I made some progress on Versatilis, former juve and now ganger with gunfighter skill (among other skills). Versatilis is quite a monster in game mechanics: A+1, I+1, Gunfighter, Weaponsmith, Crackshot, Hipshooting. Now he really needs a better BS and the Fastshot skill.
The model is based on yet another heresy miniature, the running one and I'm planning some more or less subtle changes.
Some time ago I had put him on a proper base, cleaned mold lines, removed his neck and swapped his head and weapons.
Today I changed my mind about one of his weapons and the head, so I basicly started anew. Instead of giving him the bolt pistol/las pistol mix he had so far, I decided to give him two bolt pistols (just for the looks) and a pair of silenced Mac-11s as backup (which are holstered on his thighs, looks cool).
His head was some bald head from a friends bitz box, which still wasn't small enough, the model is rather petite. I'm pretty sure there is no head out there that will suit all my requirements, so I'm going to sculpt one.

To do:
Improve bolt pistols
Sculpt head
Sculpt ballistic vest
Sculpt some straps for the holsters and for his (small) backpack

Definitely! And I see Migsula (the person who got ME started writing it all) has also approved, so this is like the officially official Inquisimunda project blog!

Any comments I have at this point are entirely positive. I really like the Painless Joe conversion, the bits and bobs you added throughout really change the mini from the stock Heresy model to a more GW-type feel. What's odd is I just put up rules for gun shields in the armory the other day and here's a model with a gun shield....great minds think alike.

I also like the Ogryn with the massive Eviscerator, so much so that I may rewrite the ruleset at one point to remove the individual "Massive Weapon" entry in the Expanded Armory and add an optional upgrade for all HtH weapons with the massive attribute. That way your massive Eviscerator would be a truly terrifying weapon. If it changes, I'll credit you in the ruleset.

In any case, keep up the great work. If you have any suggestions or feedback for me, I'm always happy to hear it.

Straps and vest are done.
Sculpting the head is next and when that's done I'll only have to work on the bolt pistols.

Update on Versatilis:
  • It's always the same with me: Every time I think, ok this time you keep it simple, weapon swap, head swap, done... And then my brain starts working and in the end it's never as simple as planned.

  • At the moment I'm working on the bolt pistols, which originally were supposed to be used unchanged, because they are special as they come. I'm using two of those rare compact bolt pitols from the 2000 New Van Saar weapon sprue, but they had a lot of flash and the halfs were shifted badly, so I had to file a lot.

  • Starting from there it quickly got more and more complex. You know me well enough to tell that I'll rarely leave a weapon unmodified, even if I try, like in this case.

  • Custom barrel, custom sights, enhanced magazine and a suspension for the puny former juve to hold those babies one in each hand...

  • Depending on my free time tomorrow, you can expect the project to be finished within a couple of days.

No progress on the painting frontier. I thought about more Tau color schemes I'd like to try and I know I really need to finish the first of the Delaques, but nothing yet.
I'm still kind of rearranging my study, which is where I paint, so there were some days when I simply couldn't paint and the last few evenings I've been to tired or to hooked up by Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, which I accidently started playing again after a years hiatus.
So Cortaro is still just primed with some wash on his base.

About the baiyuan style, that's an apt description of the mess this project has become, but I'm starting to have those "feelings" for the miniature, which I didn't have when I began, there was no spark of inspiration, just "I need a dual wield ganger, let's make one." The feelings of course mean two things, he is going to be in line with my other creations and it's going to take much longer than originally planned.

I actually planned to have another 2h of converting this evening, but instead my sister made me carry her whole kitchen furniture up to the attic.
The 15 minutes of converting I actually had in the end, led to some news about the pistols. I found a better more techy alternative for the custom iron sights I had planned and now there are red dot sights on top of both pistols and it looks so badass.
Still much to do just on the bolt pistols though, I need to add a frame of plastic card, connect the suspension brace to the guns, glue on the new barrels after properly modifying them again and at last add some random details, as usual. So there will be a lot of drilling, sculpting and adding plastic card on the pistols tomorrow.

So much for today, now back to MHFU, there are two Tigrex who await my lethal attention.

P.S. Does anyone remember the 12,7mm SMG with silencer from Fallout: New Vegas? By pure coincidence the pistols turned out to look somewhat similar to it...maybe just remotely, but they remind me of it. Add a lower arm suspension, RDS and replace the silencer by a huge muzzle and you have it.

Go on give us a painted Tau

The mess as you describe your project is actually a positive. I'm lacking motivation painting my latest scavvy because he is just a "bog standard" scavvy. I needed some more club and stub gun armed scavvies so just bunged him together. Where as with A. Beaumont ,the dream model, he came first his armament was secondary. So its a good thing bolt pistol boy gets the right treatment.

This may be a stupid question but how does one reload that Fallout pistol? Rule of cool though means that your bolt pistols will look the bees knees if they look half as good as that gun.

lol. Your poor sister gets the blame a lot...as it should be. (I'm glad my sister will never read this or she would kick my ass)

I could give you a supposed to be very fruity orange firewarrior, that in the end just looked like standard tau color scheme which frustrated me away from finishing him.

The 12,7mm SMG is actually a top loader, so there is a long flat magazine on top of it, like some actual SMGs and ARs have it, P90 for example.
My bolt pistols have pretty big box magazines under the body of the gun.

Painting something boring is even more boring, I agree. ^^
One problem of coolness first is, that I have no idea how to afford the 60cred of weapons I gave to this BS2 gunmonkey just because it looks so cool.

I used it for CQC, massive damage and still silenced. My character in NV is a sniper type of guy, 100 stealth and massive criticals, so the best weapon in the game is the Abilene Kids BB-gun. It's silent, cost ridiculously few AP in VATS and has a 100 shot magazine. With the right build and this weapon you can kill Deathclaws and Brotherhood nerds with one sneaky critical, actually they are being torn to shreds, which I think is stupid. BB-gun of DOOOOM!

    Now that you said it, I realize it's actually 70 creds. 2x bolts 2x20, 2x autos 2x15= 70 creds.
About the ammo roll, yes it is 6+, but he is a weaponsmith, which means he gets to reroll any missed AR, so hopefully his bolt pistols will last a round or two before he has to bring out the MACs.

Edit: Hhm when I wanted to close the tab with the google image search for MAC-11s I found this picture of Santa Clause's body guard. It's good to be Santa...

That or any other stuff from the 2000-2003 releases, they are all relatively rare due to the short creative period of fanatic and the quick death of the specialists games. So if you have the new Van Saars, the new bounty hunters, the spyrer matriarch or patriarch or ash waste nomads you can make some money, they are all 60 bucks usually. I was just surprised people would pay that money for three stupid dogs, while there are tons of other possible models for them.

LOL... much the same, but the Anti-Mat 'Exitus' rifle was too sweet to pass up, especially with the ammo switching. I took the 12.7mm pistol for my Exitus sidearm... and wore the Chinese Stealth Suit... Vindicare Assassin a-go-go!!

And I do much the same with my Necro guys- I play to make character, not to have the most reliant and easiest time of it... paid for that attitude dearly a few times, but always a great game.

    Howdie folks and friends!

Another day with lots of freetime, that is not at my immediate disposal, my sister's flat again...

Anyway, besides finding some cool old crap for my gametable, I could only spend like 30minutes on my conversion.

Those 30 minutes I put to best use though, I managed to get past a bottleneck of this project. I've been thinking and thinking and couldn't find the right way to connect the arm suspension with the guns.

After a few days I finally had a new idea when I was in bed yesterday and today I gave it a try. Well what can I say, I'm a freaking genius, it worked sooo well, I wasn't expecting that at all.

I hope to finish this one tomorrow, even though I already know it's going to be a busy day. Stay tuned picture update imminent...

Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

    You're also very humble.

Oh yes indeed, I don't know why people fail to see that so often. Even more so because being humble is especially difficult, when you're such a sublime being as I am.

Llamahead wrote:About the Scavvy Dogs you do know you can still buy them from GW?
E-bay can be a very silly place.....

I'm pretty pretty sure you can't, even though it would hilarious if you could. You can buy Scavvies, Ghouls and Zombies, but no dogs at least not in the online shop.

    Update:
I'm just sculpting some final details this evening and then Versatilis will be ready to be shown around. Pics tomorrow!

    UPDATE:
  • Like I promised here come the pics of my newest addition to the Serpentes Obscvri, Versatilis. He started as a juve, but became a battle hardened ganger in no time, he's still a bad shot though.

  • To compensate for his bad ballistic skills he carries a lot of dakka, four to be precise.

  • Simple conversion, not as simple as planned, but still simple.

  • My aim here was to give him a lighter look, compared to the more heavily equipped other gangers/heavies. So he only got a rather small backpack, not to use one was not an option, you don't venture into the underhive without equipment IMO. Sure he has four guns, but I think he looks more agile and lighter.

  • If you're interested in more details go back in the blog, there are more informations, or just ask, I'll answer.

  • Without further ado, here are the pics:

Very nice. Good job with the goggles, and I love the suspension braces. My brain is insisting I recognise the sights, but my memory is refusing to comply I'll admit defeat now, and then hopefully this evening's session won't consist of me going through bits trying to find it.

quick reply @ monkeytroll: I think your mind is playing tricks on you, I'd be very impressed if you recognized the sights, they are from an akademy kit of "american machine guns". They look 40kish don't they?
