Briancj wrote:So, the easiest solution is to use an LED, a button battery, and some electrical tape. If you google "LED throwy" and don't use the magnet, it'll work great for you. You can just drop the led anywhere you need.

As for diffusing the light source, you can stuff the lit end of the LED into a plastic drinking straw, preferably white (as opposed to clear) and secure it with some boring PVA glue.

Cheers Brian the LED throwy is the perfect answer to what I was looking for, there is one slight problem though you cant get 3v Red LED's for some reason they are all 2v. I cant find anywhere in the UK that sells 2v button batterys if there is such a thing.

That's okay, try the 3v button battery with the 2v LED, you should be fine.

Hi Godless-Mimicry the hatch and doors are made from acrylic with laser-engraved images. These ones were a custom order I made with http://www.warmill.co.uk

This is how the doors looked when I received them.

For the hatch I used masking tape to cover the logo before undercoating and then popped a LED into the back.

Cheers again I will order some bits and let you know how it turns out, might get some flashing red LEDs as well and see what they look like.

Looks promising so far, what are you going to do when the LED's get turned off, I would imagine that on the table they could get a bit irritating for range checking etc...

They are not as bright as in the picture more a glowing red colour, I only play in tournaments once every three months or so, so they will be left on over the two days. Not at night though of course, this depends on how hot they get but being LEDs there shouldn't be a heat issue.

This is also why I'm not really worried about painting the symbol as the tanks will never be seen without the LED's on. I might change my mind on this though.

When the new LEDs come I'll take some more pics.

wow, rhino is so cool. Have you thought of painting the symbol with a very thin red layer? The light would still come through and it would still be red when off.

Hi tipios

My minis are kept in army cases when not in use so theres no need to paint the symbol, its starting to stand out nicely now as I've added some more layers to the Red see pics below.

Ok we have a mid week update today as I had a few hours to spare this evening.

I got my new LED's and battery's in the post today, all you need to do to attach these ones it clip them over the battery and then add some electrical tape to secure them.

Here's a pic without tape, it really is as easy as the picture

All I need to do is put them in the back of the rhinos when needed and tape them down and they look like this.

The main light soure of the bulb doesn't show in real life

It looks more like this, sorry about bad picture

I've added a few layers to the top tonight and a wash to get the colour I'm after for the red.

A little bonus for you I also got some flashing red bulbs which will be going in my vindicator cannon, here's a sneak peak although you will have to blink quite a bit to get the flashing effect

Also picked up some blue LED's for a Tzeentch Rhino which will have a see through top hatch and doors, haven't ordered them yet but I have the images for the designs ready.

Glad I could help! Don't forget to use a bit of drinking straw over the LED to 'frost' it. You can also help channel the glow as well. Dirt cheap fiber optics!

Aye green LEDs would be the best I'd say, you would need to send some pics to Warmill for Death Guard so they can make them up for you.

I'll send you a PM as I have something else you might be interested in seeing as your in Southampton.

Thanks Brian you saved the day with your idea, makes it so much more easier than having to worry about wiring etc

I got some more cool bits in the post for my Dark Wolves project today, I'll keep you all in suspense until I get some time to take some pics.

Some more WIP shots of the Rhino today they are not the best as the light was starting to go.

Not sure If I will be working on it tomorrow as the other Rhino arrived today and I need to assemble and get it undercoated before the weather turns. Well I actually got a Razorback as they are the same price and it gives me a load of spare heavy weapons bits for conversions.

I received my wings today for my Daemon Prince if I decide to go with them. They are a tad big but set at the correct angle don't touch the ground.

From a game play standpoint- WINGS! I've made the mistake of putting a footslogging DP on the tabletop. It gets shot at. A lot. A lot lot.

Plus wings make for an incredibly imposing model.

Thanks everyone wings it is then I need to bring my second Rhino up to the same level as the one I'm currently working on first. Its made and under coated and the skulls are done just need to do the 100 coats of red then I'll start on those wings.

The DP will be the last figure in the small force for my doubles event to paint/convert up, I'm a bit worried because the resin is very brittle I think I may pin the wings in place there is also the option of magnets but I've not used them before and don't really want to try them out on this guy.

One of the wings will need lots of work as it doesn't fit between the shoulder plate and his back spines, it's not easy to position so I may end up doing a wing at a time. Once I get the drill out there's no going back.

Cheers WarMill

---

Well things didn't go to plan this week as I was ill and didn't have enough energy to pick up a paintbrush, I managed to pull myself together enough over the weekend to crack on with the World Eaters though.

I got lots of work done on the second Rhino yesterday I need to finish painting the symbol on the door and then finish the trophy heads and hatches on both Rhinos then they will be finished. When they are I'll light them up for you and take a few more pictures. It is taking ages doing all the heads different colours.

I still need a few more ideas though for marine chapters I have Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Death Company, Imperial Fists, Space Wolves, Ultra Marines and a Grey Knight head. I might do a White Scars one as well that leaves two normal marine heads and a terminator one I don't have a paint scheme for yet.

I've also just put the first wing on the daemon prince, it makes him look huge. I will have a fiddle and see if I can get the second one on tonight but my camera batteries are dead so there wont be a pic with both wings till I get another chance.

Here he is with his first wing being pulled back to follow the motion of him stepping forward, the second wing will be a bit more closer to his body. For size comparison the unpainted model that crept into the pic on the far right is 32mm high (slightly bigger than a marine).

Time is ticking away for my deadline now, losing a week to illness has only hindered the blood gods plans for domination.
