BA need to be more competitive, why? Because they're #3 on the power scale to GKs and SW?
From everything said on BOW, it will not have meltas. HB/ AC standard with options for TL Las, Typhoon MLs, and Skyhammer missiles. The HB/ AC aren't bad for deepstriking. But DSing AV11 into enemy lines is asking to get shot down. You'll have to hope that it and the DSed unit you dropped can clear a good amount of space to keep it from dying next turn.
You dont get it. Here lets put into a tactical perspective. I Deep Strike a combat squad of Assault marines and libby with an escort or 2 of these Stormtalons, after moving, shooting, and etc its my opponents turn. What will he shoot at? With the vehicle damage chart so chaotic and random will both die? What about the rest of my Preds, and Dreads? Tactically the Stormtalon is a godsend to BA. It gives us a very needed "shock and awe" factor making something that will force a change to my opponents kill priority list. for 130 pts, (180 if my assumptions are right for the stormhammer missile and typhoon missile) I can pump upwards of 5 shots at vulnerable AR 10 to 12 while the assault squad it escorted gets molested less. This is important to me at least.

You forget the tech level of the setting. There's no reason why even "fixed-wing" craft wouldn't mount a basic grav drive at least as a backup system, allowing them to perform much like today's helicopters. Super-science jets really cease to be their own category and are really just grav tanks that can fly really really fast if they have to.
I would like to think by the year 40,000 anything at or above human tech level wouldnt even need wings or similar flight surfaces, unless included for aesthetic reasons. Even with a minimal amount of tech improvement Id say grav drives would be old news 38,000 years from now.
Of course one would think the same thing of powder propelled slug throwing weapons....

No, I do get it. I get that the Storm Talons used that way would force your opponent to make so targetting priority decisions that he probably doesn't want to make. But you're missing my point. Blood Angels are already a competitive army with a variety of solid builds. It's not like they need more help like a variety of crappier Codicies do. Look at the poor Orks: they already get crap for anti-tank. And do their new flyers help? From what we know so far, it looks like they just get more anti-infantry. Great. Thanks, GW, way to drop the ball on an opportunity to fix something.

Good point DbM very valid. In your area BA might be #3, in my area Orks take that slot even with people running heavy mech lists. It honestly comes down to the player in my opinion.

Or maybe they're just piloted by bigger orks. Nobs still get two wounds, don't they?

Wouldn't want to see it before chaos though as they really need the new codex. With the talk that the second ork flyer (and i'm guessing the first too) being in the codex. Would rather think deffkoptas might be better dropped to 1 wound for a reduced points cost maybe. That would also mean people would want to buy the second lot anyway to put the squad back up to full cost.

With 6th Ed comes a new 6th Ed starter box. When that happens the current one vanishes, and with it goes the only place you can get Deff Koptas*. This is less prepping for a new Codex and more filling a gap that they (inadvertently) are creating themselves. *An ancient metal Gorkamorka model does not count.

The multi-melta has been an on-again off-again option for Marine dread kits since second edition. No doubt it will wind up included in a box again sooner or later.

It's far easier to convert this by jamming a landspeeder/pintle mount multimelta onto a dreadnought assault cannon arm than it is to create a deffkopta from scratch. Even then, comparing a viable unit in the codex to one weapon upgrade is kind of a laugh.

Wouldn't it fit GWs pattern of "similar named" models that Chaos get the Helltalon..cheap gunship , twin linked las-cannon, auto-cannon instead of heavy bolters. I hope so... also if the Stormtalon is the flier expected.... we can all go back to wishing and arguing about the plastic Thunderhawk. Yaaaaay.

That's just generic naming conventions. Space Marine aircraft are (weather)(bird) and Chaos ones are (mean word)(sharp thing).
