This month was rough for me, I am afraid that for all my teasing I forgot about my dread. Also Im apparently not a DCM anymore and I also got distracted by some metal guard models and plastic ones. Cough.

I'll re enter old man Belore if there is a contest that would suit him.

Trev looks good, considering he is a dick.

Next month's (well, this month's now) is Space Marines, so he'd fit right in there. So long as you've not actually painted any more of him, resubmitting is absolutely fine!

Anwar moved through the press of bodies hurrying Shlepper along as best he could. Those mercenaries would be on him soon enough without his bot dragging him down too. Shlep seemed to be even more prickly and slow since taking that glancing shot in their first encounter with the hired muscle. He wondered who it could be after him. Although with the new serums he was carrying, fresh out of the labs, every faction in the galaxy would be wanting their filthy infidel hands on them...

Not the best shots, and he's not completely got the finishing touches (damn you long work Monday!) but here is my entry. I console myself with the fact that I started Saturday.

Trev isn't a bad guy, he just had a shaky start in life. You haven't seen the pics of what colours I had to clean off him to get him down to bare metal...

He also has a brother. Smaller, but I've similarly never got anywhere with him.

BC I gotta tell you that you have made my day (as has everyone who has been so kind as to comment). I was at a real low point earlier this week regarding the hobby. Thought I was playing in a playground that I didn't belong in. The quality you and others produce is superb and I don't see myself as being anywhere near your standards and I still don't think I am.

From someone with a very low opinion of my hobby skills, thank you so very very much

I know I'm new around here, but I just wanted to say that you have no reason to doubt yourself or your skills. From what I have seen of your work, you are on a above-average level and you have a very nice unique feel going on.

Keep on trucking man, and hold your head high - Your minis deserve nothing less

Yep, what he said!

Or to put it another way, your minis are a) very rapidly improving in quality, you're pushing yourself all the time and it's paying off and b) they're already better than a good 70-80% of minis I've seen across the table from me over the years. The fact they're painted is one thing, but they're also painted to a consistently good standard and if all my opponents could get their act together and match the kind of quality you're putting out, I'd be very happy indeed!

So yeah, soldier on, keep on doing what you're doing, and be proud of it! For what it's worth, you'd definitely have got my vote for that Angel if it'd been in the poll!

Pfff... this thread has little point now anyway...so I derail fuuuuurther!!

TP^DC, never judge your skills against another painter. We are all at different points on the same path. Others are better because they've had more time in, that is all. So it's like worrying about people being younger or older than you. Silly.

Judge your painting by what YOU have done before. Is your latest work better than your first? Good you're learning! Is it better than your last work befor it? Awesome! You're learning FAST!

This is from someone who's been painting minis for longer than the majority of posters here has been alive. I was self-taught for a very long time and learned dry-brushing, washes and highlighting pretty much on my own. Nowadays (you young whipper-snappers!) have the sum of human knowledge on your phones and can follow some of the best painters in the world's blogs. What I'm saying is, I have learned very slowly over my 30 odd years of doing this and am not a phenomenal painter. Mostly because I haven't put the effort into improvement over a large portion of that time. Now my efforts are focused on doing that again. So take it easy on yourself and learn all you can. If you do, and stay with it, you could be a very amazing painter in a relatively short time. Just make sure you keep improving!

Thanks man. I'm in a similar position, but only 20 years of painting with a huge gap in the middle. My dad taught me and I sort of tried things and got some sort of effect, then saw these ink things (see how old I mean) came out from GW and Inhave them ago.

I agree though. Phones and Dakka have accelerated my learning beyond my imaginings.

And I will definitely take your advice. And on a side point, you are a very good painter [full stop]

Stop being so British!
Your stuff has consistently hit the mark throughout the contests you've entered, and you are definitely deserving of the praise your work gets.

I can remember the colours and figures of some of your pieces (though not the names because I'm dreadful at character names) and what you worked on, so you definitely leave a good impression.

Well done for entering them anyway after the comp finished TP^DC, nice to see them in their finished glory.

As regard to questioning your own skills I'd be at risk of just be repeating what people have already said here, your work is good and I have voted for you on more than one occasion.

I view the challenges as a way to have fun and be creative with the hobby since I have a very limited amount of time for it (or anything else atm) As long as you enjoy yourself with what your doing it doesn't matter what skill level your at, its your hobby after all. Also the people are a pretty good group too

I was practically hating the models for having taken so long and was obviously peeved at having mixed the deadline, but then when I finished them up, as you say, I loved them again. Posting was to create a sense of closure was great to have them photographed properly and up on Dakka

Yeah, what everyone else said, TP! I think that Mature Angel is amazing, and the Minnows turned out well too! Thanks for posting it even though you missed the deadline. Almost makes me wish I'd gotten in on the Medge kickstarter (except I'd have no one to play with). I myself have gone through periods of "painter's blues" where I didn't feel like my painting was very good, but ultimately I've looked back and compared some of my more recent work to some of my early work, and I realize that I have improved. Like the others said, the only one you should really compare yourself to is yourself.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
