Well since DC don't count as scoring, the best you could hope for in any objective game is a draw

Ya, DC can't score, it's possible but will only be good in a Kill point only game.

I think so.
To borrow a term from poker you would need to go all inn.
You would need 2-4 death companies, 2 dreadnoughts (death company.) Those are real mean.
What you need next is ranged suport that remove your oponents abilaty to runn away from you. I would probably go for some dakka dreads, and some biker squads. You will not be abel to rely solemly on the shooting face as sweeping advances is the way to kill units.
While a death company does not have power weaponds by default they are just as hard to kill as terminators as 2+ is the same for the mathammer as 3+ and then 4+. (AP 1 and 2 not cosidered, but you can always grab some cover saves.) You will be placing so many cheap kick as models on the table that your oponent will not have the means to remove them (hopefully.) Remember when building the list that you need to destroy the oponent or not winn,

Tabling the opponent always equals a victory regardless of objectives.
It sure sounds like a fun army to play.

thanks, I know about the no scoring, the DC Dreads tend to get shot up, don't they? I'm thinking of getting up close and personal to other players' armies quickly, do DC do well with Drop Pods, or would Razorbacks be better? As well, I'm considering a Baal Predator(or two if it fits), would that fit well in this sort of army?

I tried this. Insane fun against slow hordes, but it loses it's edge against marine armies, and DE can kite it like crazy. I know once when my Dreadnought was chasing a Raider it never moved 6" past the point he started, until the other player just got cocky and moved in his CotA and let me charge. Good fun.

Yeah, I don't see why not but you can win objective games if you recall the Wipeout! rule. Killing all the enemys in six turns is no easy task but it is possible. Also give one DC dual thunder hammers for 80 points but in all seriousness. always moving towards the enemy is pretty nasty but once you catch them...
All in all, Go for it!

DC can take power weapons, in fact every model has access to TH, PF, PW, IP, etc, almost any weapon in the BA codex is avaliable to them
1 full unit (30 models) of DC is 600 pts, kitted out they can get close to 900 pts, add in a few DC dreads in DPs and a HQ and you have a 1500 pts army that is a hella lot of fun to play

Astorath lets you take more than one DC unit. He would be the HQ, and you don't have to put all 30 in one unit. However, there might be a benefit to having one 30 man unit. Once you get them in CC, they aren't getting shot. You should also be able to charge into multiple units at once.

What about if you equipped your DC with jump packs? They go way up in price and you get less models obviously, but wouldnt it help the mobility issues? Or have 1-2 jump squads anchored by a large foot squad?

If I were to do it, I'd play it Mech with Stormravens. Rage doesn't do anything when you're in a transport, and it doesn't matter when you can deploy the unit next to where they need to go. Otherwise Death Company are stupidly efficient marines. I'd still take a regular squad just as a back up. After all, you only need to be holding one more objective than your opponent.

I have played a pure DC army at 2500 Pts. It was 4 squads of 15 each led by a chaplain/ reclusiarch/ or astorath and 3 vindis.
It was a blast to play and a super hard hitting army. However, I played a Mech army and my opponent conga lined all 4 of my squads around the board with two empty transports after taking out my vindi's by turn two.
Rage is something that needs to be looked out for in this style army. Would it be a viable army in tourney? I don't think it would be any more than an enjoyable casual army without dedicated transports to keep the DC from playing follow the leader.
