hey there

there are many aspects of this hobby, like painting and modelling, tournamet gaming, fun gaming, fluffing, meeting with fellow gamers...... but everyone has his/her favourite aspect, and I'm wondering how it is distributed. How many of you are here for the gaming, and how many for the painting? or are you here for something different? I used to like fun gaming best, but the lack of fellow gamers where i live has caused me to turn to p&m-ing and fluff writing.

How about you?

weird. I would have ever thought some hates the modelling part; its what i like most! I always try to give the models realistic and fluent poses, and tell storys with the way they are build.

though when i started, i just threw the parts together carelessly, and my painting was horrible.....

The only part I don't like is cleaning the mold lines. However, I like for my miniatures to "look purty" so I do it.

Otherwise, modeling, painting, and gaming is all fun. I'm a horrible general though.

I would say I'm a social gamer. I put spending time with my friends above my game playing. The fact most of my friends are gamers is just a bonus.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

My favourite part would have to be making the models as you can use a huge amount of creativity when making them.

I do the same now as well, and started out the same way. I actually have phased out almost all of my original Space Marines replacing them with new models to get better poses (using the death company models for my Ultramarines, their ornate bits and action poses are unmatched in a plastic kit so far) and my painting skills have gotta a heck-of-a-lot better since I started.

That being said, I enjoy building, painting, and I absolutely love playing, though my play group in my area is small. My only vice is that I am naturally a rules haggler and have been my whole life, they are there for a reason, though I see the application of house rules and utilize them when the consensus deems so but I find myself GMing games and answering questions more often than not, though that comes with the territory, I've Battlemastered, DMed, Judged, etc etc games for a local hobby store since the fall of 2006 and I tend to be the only one who makes fair calls and looks up rules in my spare time to ensure fair gameplay.

In closing, I think that if the game was a little cheaper/approachable there would be more players, right now the entry cost for Warhammer specifically is really high for a descent 'fun' army (specially if you play something like Orks that are mob heavy). Having some 'basic' kits that are nearly pre-built or even nearly pre-painted would help get newcomers to the game/those who are not good/don't want to paint into the game. The expensive elaborate and detailed kits could still be left for those who want to go all out on their army(s). All in all, just wish I had more people to game with :(

I love the modelling side of it. It's great seeing a kit come together. Painting is ok, but I'm not good enough to really enjoy it.

I am a gamer and socializer first and foremost.

Though this is partially because of physical reasons. Nerve damage in my dominant arm has left me so that any time I try to do something precise with my right hand (such as painting and some small assembly), it will start shaking and trembling. I can build a bit, but painting is pretty much out of the question. So I focus ont he games and people.

I'm a socializer first and foremost, followed closely by a collector(which I guess would tie into painting and assembling, as I like to have vast painted armies on display). Sitting around talking about the game is often more fun than actually playing it.

I think I owe this to my being a role-player long before I actually got into wargaming with the collector aspect being a holdover of also being a toy/Transformers collector.

I love every aspect of the game. Building models is fun, and I love to do some converting/kitbashing to give my figures character. Painting is my means to relax and pass the time, and I can just get all zen and paint for a couple hours. I've gotten rather good at it too, which of course makes doing it more fun! Finally, I love gaming. There are few things better than hanging out with your buddies, blowing the crap out of each other, and shooting the gak for a couple hours.

I just really love the spectacle of two well-painted armies on the field, duking it out in a massive bloodbath. As much as I love painting, I doubt I'd be as into it if I wasn't doing it towards that goal.

Modeller first.
I paint them because I don't play with unpainted models.
I play just to see my little guys on the table and for the social aspect.

I gave up collecting trophies and wins as if they were something important back in the 90s (they currently sit in a box, at the back of the shed).

I play mostly to spend more time with friends. I don't play in tournaments, and rarely play against people outside of my circle of friends (mostly to avoid douchebaggery). If I'm not at a shop playing, Warhammer becomes Beerhammer.

While I'm not the best painter, I like trying new techniques and I like having a fully painted army. I'm of the oponion that an average paintjob, done consistently across an entire army, looks far better on the tabletop than grey plastic. It's not hard to pull off an average paintjob, and there's products and techniques out there to help. Make a bit of effort, it's not hard putting a basic paintjob on some models.

This is pretty much me. I like to paint and see models being completed, and chat to other wargamers etc. I do like to get the odd game in so that I can let of some stress and have a good laugh.

It is all about being social for me.

I don't think I could choose which particular aspect I enjoy most. Building and painting is a great stress reliever, and it's fun to attempt to showcase my dedication and constantly improve my painting skills. Gaming with good buddies is great too, as even though we sometimes flub the rules, we're still having fun all the same. I've met some great friends through this hobby, and am glad that I've done it, even though part of me cringes when I realize I've spent at least $1,000 on little toy soldiers after five years...

I'm a converter/builder first, gamer second, and painter third. I absolutely love putting together kits, and being an Ork player, I love finding unique ways to make conversions and kitbashes. My most recent project was a set of 10 bikers using a squad of boyz and a bunch of bike models from other armies, and I'm soon planning to make a bunch of stormboyz in the same manner (starting with hellions). That said, I just can't stand painting, mainly because I'm usually too lazy to pick up a paintbrush and get at it. It's just so finicky trying to paint the things the right color, and there's so much that needs to be done on each individual model.
