Is GW doing much of anything to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Rogue Trader and the WH40k universe?

I know they have a limited edition figure http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440160a&prodId=prod1460169a

but is that it for commemerating the beginnig of the most popular wargame in the world?

T'would seem there's every chance that GW might be doing something more to celebrate this success but, of course as of yet they haven't quite gotten round to letting us know what their plans are.

That said there's strong indications of a new rules edition this year -- to be followed up later by a new starter box set of course. And a few new models for .. various factions... as well.

The new/current WD seems to indicate that the stores will be holding events on the 25th of Feb. There will -- contain yourself now -- be some free pin badges and some posters, mouse mats and.. and... rubber bracelets .. as well. No idea as to what they'll cost as of yet.

Oh, I believe that if we want we can bring cake into the stores and the staff will, no doubt help us eat it.

.. so... keep an eye on their website, Facebook and your local stores for further details of what will roll out, Autobot style hopefully, on the 25th of this month.

We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

I would have thought they would have waited for the anniversary of WFB. Sort of a "where it all began"....

They already did the Fantasy 25th anniversary a couple of years ago. That's why we have the 25th anniversary Harry the Hammer model.

Check further down in the News and Rumors forum. I think it's laughable that, for the celebration of 25 years of 40K, White Dwarf is showcasing Lord of the Rings. High-lair-e-us.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Also, keep in mind that the actual 25th anniversary is supposed to be in October. So, as has been said many times in that other thread, this is potentially just the start of their 25th anniversary celebration.

Erm, I have received the latest White Dwarf and it has a whole special anniversary feature bolted on the back - the main issue is most LOTR, granted, but there's a big feature on the history of 40k, lots of pictures and a big multi-table battle report.

So those who say it isn't mentioned are wrong.

Like everything GW these days even a massive event like 25 years will be kept top secret etc.... We will find out by shady Polish online retailers what the next big thing is....

Maybe we will get lucky and holy Terra get nuked by a large asteroid and the imperium is broken up into splinter factions....

Wow would that be agreat 25 year treat! Could be some good fluff with the imperium fighting itself and xenos...

With the rise of chaos! Wooot.... sounds too good so it wont happen...

I heard a rumour that WD will be coming with more than 1 cover choice this month?

But yes, I would have loved a '40k special edition', released alongside the regular White Dwarf (like lots of movie/music mags do). Can you imagine, in depth analysis of the history of the game - old eavy metal pictures from 25 years of articles, perhaps an old battle-report with modern comments added. A re-make of the 'Battle for the farm' scenario, interviews with designers, and perhaps a selection of the best ever 40k related articles printed in the magazine (as voted for by the fans). But for that, unfortunately you need writers and journalists, a marketing department who can conceptualise things that I created in 4 seconds of thought, and money to be put into it the magazine.

Are you implying that GW would have to write in WD, not just print glossy pictures to sell models?

They are already trying to play the nastalga card, why encourage more BS half hearted attempts.

They released the old land Raider, and the Rhino. You did see the price, right? Not seeing three of those in a box. LOL

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Hi folks..
lets have a look at the options shall we?

Interview Rick Priestly about the game developement on Rogue Trader, and how it has changed into todays game , Oh what do you mean he is no longer employed by GWplc.!(And has exeeded his no disclosure agreement so we can not control what he says.)

Well then , why not interview Andy Chambers who brought alot of the Main Characters we know and Love like Ghazzy And Doc Grotsnik into the game in 2nd ed.And Lead development through 3rd -4th ed...He has left GW plc as well!

What about ,erm.... you mean ALL the old timers have moved on apart from Jervis Johnson.
Well he will have to do , he will always say what we want.

Right so we use pictures of old crappy looking models and tell the curent 40k gamers how lucky they are to have our latest great looking minatures.

We can even release a so-so 25th ed minature for a stupid price,(some idiots will buy ANYTHING if its limited release.)

Get Jervis to do his boring 'this is the best game eva drivel' to inspire the kiddies to buy more minatures.

Hold lots of in store events to maximise sales potential (for any given reason anivesary is as good as any.)

And MOST importantly keep well away from game play issues, game balance and development. After all 40k is all about selling toy soldiers to children now, and we dont want gamers to realise that any time soon do we?

GW has been taking 40k pretty granted and are nearly neglecting it these days. The 25th anniversary got some overpriced miniature devoted to it I believe and some mention towards the end of WD.

I actually wish they would do a re-imagining of the original Rogue Trader cover for the 6th ed cover. Modernize the art on it a bit - that would loook fantastic!

Yeah, so neglected that 40k got a flipside cover and about 25 pages all told of history and a huge battle report. 2011 was a Fantasy year, this one will be a 40k year until The Hobbit comes out. We'll get some cool stuff soon.
CURNOW wrote:do we have any pics of that thunderhawk ... ? as there arnt any shops with in a hrs travel that sell WD and i sure aint ordering one :]

I'm looking at the pictures right now. The only differences I'm spotting are that the side panels above the front wings are open and have things sticking out, and there's no aquila or skull on the front like on the Forgeworld one. Looking at photos of other Thunderhawks online, the skull and front aquila seem to be optional pieces so that's a false lead. The open panels is a new thing to me though, but I might just be getting tricked since it's very small in a big picture. I think this is just another case of the unkillable plastic Thunderhawk rumor we see every year.
