In terms of CSM models, what do you expect to be in the box?
I'm guessing that the rumored CSM Dreadnaught will be.
What else?

Typically you have a few heavy armoured models vs more lightly armoured ones. If it is chaos in sixth I'd imagine it would have some cultists/demons/renegade guardsmen.

I'm not too clued up on all the rumours, so please don't slate me o' grand masters of dakka

If we take a look at AOBR, it will probably be something along the lines of this:

CSM Lord/Sorcerer
Orc AOBR starter number of culitsts or a Tac Squad of CSMS
Dread

So...
1 HQ
1 Basic squad of CSMs or 2 minimal squads of cultists
Dread

Hastings also said that there will be "Chosen" in it, in addition to the dreadnought and cultists.

Aren't the DA's going to be the other faction in the box? Man I'd kill for a couple of DA specific plastic banners (full sized standard bearer ones). I'm so horrible and unmotivated when it comes to freehand.

But back on topic.

For chaos
Chaos Lord or Champion
A new plastic chaos dread would be off the freakin charts.
I'd say a twosquads of marines.
(I don't think there'll be cultists, although it'd be rad if I was wrong)
(And I don't think there'll be terminators just because chaos ones are biggish and all over the place...in theAOBR box space was a premium) If what Kroot says about chosen happens, they'll probably be in place of the termies.

THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED!!!

AoBR had the following:
10 Power Armor
5 Terminators
1 dreadnought
1 captain

20 ork boyz
5 nobs
3 deffkoptas
1 warboss

So I would expect a similar distribution of points and model sizes in 6th edition; here's my guesses (with what they're replacing in parentheses):

DA: 5 deathwing (terminators), 3 ravenwing (Deff Koptas), 10 Dark angels (Power Armor), 1 emo-captain (captain).

Chaos: 2x10 cultists (ork boyz), 5 marines (Nobs), Chaos Dreadnought (Dreadnought), Chaos Champion (Warboss).

This SWAG is based on GW adhering to two rules:
1) the Space Marines must have a slight, but not overwhelming advantage (50 points or so); and
2) the Space Marines aren't going to face an all-power-armor opponent.

At a guess, the DA list would come to (don't have the codex) around 500 points, which is close to what the SM in AOBR have. If the cultists are 7-8 points each, that would put it right on target (~450).

Biccat has a good post although I doubt they would 100% emulate the point costing from AoBR. Also I don’t see GW throwing in 20 cultists into the kit (it would be too unbalanced and akin to GW putting 20 grots in a AoBR).

DA
1 Captain
10 Power Armour
5 Terminators
3 Attack bikes

Chaos
1 Chaos Lord
10 Power Armour
5 Chosen (probably power armoured Chosen with minimal upgrades)
10 Cultists
1 Dreadnaught

With the rumors of Chosen, cultists, and a dreadnought going in, I'd expect something like the following:

2 squads of 10 cultists
1 squad of 10 Marines
1 squad of 5 Chosen
1 Chaos Lord or Sorcerer

For DAs I can't think of anything that isn't already in AoBR off the top of my head.

This sounds the most rational and likely, but also remember the other rumor that seemed as strong as the 'plastic dread'... Potential new plastic plaguebearers.
This will depend on whether daemons are kept generic in this new codex or not, but seeing as plaguebearers are the only daemon troops currently not plastic, it's quite possible. It will also be handy in the whole 'space marine opponents not being 100% power armor element)

I seem to remember (quite a long time ago) sombody mentioning that a plastic remake of one of the Chaos SC's would be in the box. Was that just more wish-listy lies from Ghost or did that come from someone reliable?

For DA, I'd like to see something like biccat suggested. I doubt they'd include a psyker in the starter set (as it would mean going into rules for psychic tests and potw ect) but I'd love to see something along the lines of:

Sorcerer
20 Cultists
5-6 Chosen
Dreadnought

That could make a pretty cool start for a Word Bearers army.

5 Ravenwing Bikes
10 Tactical Marines

Khorne Berzerkers always seem to make it into Chaos related groups, so they'd probably be in it.

Way too much stuff for one side of a starter set.

Hm...good point.

So lets replace the 5 CSM with 6 plaguebearers. Having a power armor HQ choice then doesn't make a whole lot of sense, maybe some sort of a Demon HQ? Not Daemon Prince, but maybe the size of the AOBR warboss.

I'd probbaly go for something like this -

CSM

1 Lord
10 Plaguebearers
1 Dreadnought
10 cultists

DA

1 Captain
5 Deathwing
3 Bikes
10 space marines

I'd like to see that in the box

My guess is no bikes but 1 or 2 landspeeders. If it follows the AOBR style it will have something that flys.

3500 pts Black Legion
3500 pts Iron Warriors
2500 pts World Eaters
1950 pts Emperor's Children
333 pts Daemonhunters

Loving all the speculation. I was thinking I'd be an Ork player for life, but with CSM in the starter box, I may have to build a second army.

It's going to be a bit tricky, because the army I'd expect they'd put in a CSM starter would be nearly identical to the DA army I'd expect.

So, I assume they'll have some variety. The Cultists vs Deathwing is probably a pretty accurate argument. I could also see them not including a dread is they add a MC Daemon.

The big strike against Plague Marines is that they have FNP, which can be rather confusing for a new player (unless 6th simplifies it).

Also, this should be in 40k General, not Dakka Discussions.
