What are the rules for using units and gear from the imperial armor books in regular warhammergames?
From what i understand, many things are allowed with your opponents permission.

In the Imperial Guard Codex you can only use a multilaser, heavy flamer or heavybolter as a turret, yet in the updated IA vol 1 it has for instance the autocannon possibility.

I see ForgeWorld sell the Autocannonturret for chimera, which i think looks awesome, and would be a nice alternative vs certain enemies.
And can i use a Salamander Command tank in my IG army? (also available from ForgeWorld) Do they take up a HQ slot on the organisationchart or do they work like a techpriest/ministorumpriest?

Thanks

We do this roughly every week. General opinions come down to

1. Fine in normal games if you let your opponent know in advance
2. Some units are fine, let your opponent see in advance, they might not let you use some of the powerful (ie broken good) units (like the Land Raider Achilles or Caestus Assault Ram), which is fair enough
3. No, never ever

The best thing to do is ask your opponent, and be prepared to be told no.

Avoid taking Slick Loader; it makes artillery... unfair. Thematic tools are great, like Salamanders, but spamming Autocannon Chimeras can easily be seen as WAAC and you'll run short of friends really quick.

Which sucks, because I absolutely love autocannons and loathe multilasers, aesthetics/fluff wise. Autocannon turrets should cost slightly more but be included in the rules imo.
