Well, that's another beer with some nice acrylic artificial colouring. Please tell me it's not just me who gets lost in my painting and somehow always manage to attempt to clean brushes in whatever drink I have on my desk!

It's when you clean the brushes in the drink and drink the paint water and don't realize you're doing it that you get worried.

I have done it once or twice. I have also drunk the paint water a few times.
Though I generally try to keep drinks away from my painting area, too many models have fallen into the coffee...

LOL, you're telling me. The other day I was totally mixed up. I accidentally drank my holy water, peed in my drink cup, and cleaned my brush in my urine jar.

A Dakka search, on top of this thread, will confirm that it's far from just you. I've found that keeping drinks and paint water in relatively consistent locations on opposite sides of my work space is more than I need to avoid the issue. If you never wash brushes on your right side, you're not likely to consciously attempt to do so; if you're on autopilot, you won't do it, either.

It happens.

The other night, I was shooting some basecoats down in the basement. I use eyedroppers to place the thinned paint in the airbrush's cup; after the paint's in, I stick the eyedropper in a jar of water, rinse it out with a few squeezes, and squeeze out the remainder back into the jar. On this particular night, the "jar" turned out to be my bourbon and soda. I didn't catch it until I went to take a drink and saw the metallic film on top.

Before anyone asks, it didn't taste any different.

I've actually never done this.

I simply don't drink anything whilst I paint so it's not even a possibility.

Done it.... But hey it was coffee so it was fine. What's worse is when my sister has been doing crafts and she leaves her chapstick next to a glue stick. I have never seen someone run to wash their mouth faster! Gives a new meaning to "Your face will freeze that way!"

I live in constant fear of this, due to my slovenly habits of drinking coffee as I do miniatures. If I put it to the side I will usually forget to drink it... and it gets cold. Feth.

I don't worry so much about drinking the paint water as I do sticking the brush in my coffee or having some random drops spill into it.

I've never cleaned my brushes in my drinks. At least not yet... I do however use a shot glass containing 98% isopropyl alcohol to clean my brushes. This is because the shot glass is fairly long and skinny so not much alcohol is wasted. I also use a tumbler which has water so I can swish the brush around. I prefer the glass tumblers since they tend to be wide and heavy and have less chances of being knocked over.

I've done this a couple of times, it's very easy to mistake paint water for tea if you've been painting alot of browns/yellows. Less so if you're painting tzeentch demons and your paint water looks more like an Emo's hair dye

Real coffee-lovers will drink it cold if by some chance you do manage to leave it that long.

I have looked up and noticed brushes sticking out of my mug, though.

Just this week, I finally got some fresh water in a plastic cup. Started walking back to where i was working and was about to drink it. I had to stop and think about it for a second. I have this issue far to often and the screwed up thing is, I drink out of 2 liters and cans. I don't use cups. And yet i was about to drink what looked like lake water. Personally i have an issue with sticking the end of the brush in my mouth to hold it so i can grab something and end up sticking the head of the brush in... With paint on it. I'll tell you what though, Bolt gun metal doesn't taste as bad as apple barrel black does.

I know GW's new marketing tool. Paints that taste, Can you see that? I can, now when you drink your paint water, its like drinking peppermint water. Or bubble gum. O yea... GW meets Willy Wonka. The world will change with this idea.

this is so me. I've never had any trouble remembering which pot to clean my brushes in, but I've had so many hot drinks get cold and ice-cold drinks get warm because I put them to the side and then promptly forget about them for the next hour...

I never said I did not drink it. I'm not sure if I would qualify as a coffee-lover, though. It's more of a love-hate thing, and we break up and get back together constantly.

Never done this. But can see how easy it would be.

I usually sip a glass of wine or a beer, Only the one (Don't want it to go to my head) but it avoids this problem, a wine glass or beer can looks nothing like my paint water.

Using mugs as a paint pot while also drinking coffee. Well It's not going to be long till your drinking the wrong mug.

On a boat, Trying not to die.

A real man drinks it anyway.

Me and my friends have a rule. If you stick your paintbrush into your drink, you have to chug it. Health be damned, Bolgun Metal water is delicious! Well, compared to Devlan Mud wash water.

Surprisingly never done this. Usually what I keep my paint water in and my drink are pretty close to actually touching.

I have come close to doing this many times. Usually i use different sized glasses however, so if i have to dip too far down, i know I am using the wrong glass for my brush haha.

Also, now I just have my drink out of peripheral vision, so i can't dip my brush in it without looking at the glass and realizing it is not the correct one...

The fact that this thread exists is quite comical actually. It is a phenomenon I think we all are part of in some degree.
