(Perhaps this belongs in News and Rumors, but I didn't want it to get buried in threads about the content of upcoming releases, release schedules, etc., and didn't really know which thread it'd belong in anyhow... )

Title says it all. I haven't seen any speculation on the precise price point people expect this to be, but I imagine that many people out there would have reasonable educated guesses. I am trying to figure out how much to budget out for it, assuming it's coming mid-to-late summer. Am I looking at $100 (in the USA) or perhaps more?

Any predictions from armchair speculation through insider-secret leaks welcome!

Well, it isn't news, and it isn't a rumor, so this was probably the second best place to put it - 40k general discussion would have been your best bet.

As to the starter set - optimistically, I'd say $100.

I'm going to bet as high as $120, however. And since the AoBR set was $60 when it came out, who knows how high they'll raise the price of the new set.

Or, amazingly, they may bring it back down to $60.

I'd expect the same price as Dreadfleet.

It's GW. It'll be $139.99.

It'll start out like AoBR, small reasonable price until GW finds out how much each thing "really costs"

$100 for first few months since it'll match with the old price

Afterwards I'd say $120-150 depending on what really is inside

Its a good thing we have bitz sites that'll gladly separate everything

I would err on the side of £75 to be honest although I would consider that price crazy for a starter set...

I think they'll look to use the box to drive sales in the game as a whole. Knowing once someone has the box, books, and then armies are sure to follow.

To that end I see it either staying at £61.50 or at worst bouncing up to £71.50.
My bet would it goes to the middle-ish ground and rounds off to £65.

I have a question now.
Since everyone complains about GW pricing, does anyone have the numbers as to the sales of AoBR when it was less expensive, versus its current price?
Did it even help it to sell when it was cheaper?
If so, GW will probably do the same, if they are getting the same numbers with the higher price, then there will be no reason to lower it.

I'm from the future. The future of space

I think AoBR's price change has shown that GW has finally implemented pricing in accordance with the policy that their customers quit the game relatively rapidly. And since they're not planning on retaining their customers, they need to get as much money out of them as possible with early purchases.

So I'd expect the new starter to be at least $100-$120.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

AOBR went up to £60 in the annual price rise of june 2010.
IoB then came out in September 2010 and matched it's price.

I would imagine it will go the same this year- June will see IoB rise in price (£65-£70) and then 6th ed. box in september will match it.

To be honest IoB raised the bar on starter box models and is a pretty sweet deal- if the 6th ed. box matches it in quality then it's worth £70.

Well, here's hoping that we get a good selection of nice-looking minis for both armies. I think that AOBR and IoB were both pretty solid (IoB especially so), and I hope that the trend continues. I'm looking forward to the release! (though as one minor gripe, I wish it wasn't power armor vs. power armor... )

It kind of makes sense that way. SMs will always be in the box set. They must want to give exposure to different races in each new edition release. Speculate WAY into the future. 7th will be SM Vs Tau.

It just could happen.

Unless they crame significantly more into the box (I would suggest they will maintain the same sixe box), then I cant see them increasing the entry level game by more than 5-10%, so £70 max.

If however they do put more stuff in the box then the skys the limit really. I dont think this will happen though as they will have an eye on havoing to ship it everywhere and giving as much as possible without giving awat too much.

It probably wont be full on PA vs PA. Since the Starter usaly has around 500 points per army we are probably looking at something like this

DA
Chappy or captain
10 man Tac squad (free flamer, free missle launcher)
5 man tac squad (bolters)
3 Bikers

Thats 450 points So toss in a special weapon or two or 2 more bikers and you set at 500

then for Chaos
Sorcerer or lord
5 chosen
20 Cultists
Dread

Using the points for IG penal legion(since its the closest thing at the moment) for the cultists this works out to 460. So agin toss in a couple special weapons or upgrades on the Sorcerer and you get 500 points.
Now this is all just speculation on my part. I cant say that this is what will be in the box.. But it fits with the Rumors of a Chaos Dread and DA in the starter.

It will probably be $115 because they know everyone will buy it at that price. Any more expensive and people will start to think about the purchase.

I have a hard time believing $100. I'd bet $120 minimum, and $140 to not be far-fetched.

I think it will probably be between £80 and £90 Uk. On a similar note I wouldn't be surprised if the standalone rulebook is in the same price bracket.

That's a bit excessive I feel.
As I said, 40K box will price match with IoB, as will the new LotR box when it arrives.
As for the rulebook- that'll be £45 to match the Fantasy book.

Also I'd be stunned if GW pulled to far away from the 'not much more than a videogame and look at what you get' pricepoint. If its more than double of a game, a lot of folks would say feth it, and buy two games instead.

I personally think it will be interesting to see if we get the full mini-rulebook in the set. The leaked codex suggests basic and advanced rulesets, and it could be that only the basic rules make their way into the box.

Starter box sets have always been $100.00 for as long as I can remember. Doesn't matter what game (40K WFB), doesn't matter what edition.

Even as far back as 1993 when the 2nd edition starter box dropped... $100.00.

Epic 40,000 starter box... $100.00.

Warhammer Fantasy... $100.00

That's what I had expected the AoBR to be, but to my amazement the price was substantially lower, but only on initial release. Now look at it... $100.00.

Blood Island... $100.00

I guarantee the 6th edition starter box wont be any different. It will be $100.00.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

In accordance with Operation: Single Buyer, the new starter set will be priced at £16m and GW are hoping for a single buyer to see them through the next fiscal year. This of course will be a massive financial success for GW and herald massive dividends for Kirb... shareholders.

HAHAHHAHAHHA yeah when AOBR came out out I was working at GW at the time, we got 120 boxes and sold the last box to me on the second day.

$65 bucks canadian was a damn good deal, now it's what wow $118.75 canadian, so I would say minimum $120. No such thing as a loss leader at GW anymore =o\

Ummm hate to say it but second ed 40k was never $100 bucks..... I would of never been able to afford it. Maybe the box set with Dark Millennium, but not the basic 40k box. AOBR was 60 or 65 canadian when it came out also.

But I do agree with you on the 6th edition box will be over 100$, probley around $120 minimum, and the skys the limit after that.
