An interesting tidbit from Warseer, even if it goes directly against Hasting's rumours.

drbored wrote:I got a rare opportunity to ply a wealth of information for some knowledge and insight about what's coming up next/soon.

Here's the rundown...

Dark Angels (May/June)
6th Edition (July/August)
-Starter Box featuring Dark Angels vs. Eldar
Eldar (Oct/Nov Xenos slot)

And somewhere in that mix is going to be a splash release of fliers that *should* include the Harpy, Voidraven Bomber, Doom/Night Scythe, and possibly more. When I mentioned 'Autumn of Fliers' I got a derisive snort, so we may see it sooner, we may see it later.

This confirms two things:
1. It's not going to be Dark Angels and Chaos for the Starter Box. GW is NOT going to put two power armor armies in the same box. Power armor is their bread and butter, and to put two power armor armies in one starter box doesn't follow any trends, going back to the Rogue Trader days. It *may* be Dark Angels vs. Tau, but my source suggested Eldar strongly for several reasons.
-A. Eldar is a girl-getter. It's the one army that attracts more girls to the game than any other.
-B. Eldar is currently the worst selling army.
-C. Eldar has a massive loyal fanbase.
Eldar are the logical step, and now they're the rumored next step in this coming Xenos season.

2. Chaos is not going to be coming out this year, but may be slotted for early 2013. This is good and bad... bad because we don't get Chaos sooner. Good because it means Chaos will be a true 6th edition army, and not a 'made for' 6th edition army. This will put more time between the release of the rules and the finessing of the Codices, which means a better 6th edition Codex for Chaos. We could, of course, get a surprise, where they slam in a new Codex into the year, but that doesn't trend either. My source suggested, however, that we may see a lot of 'splash' releases packed in, with the aforementioned fliers being one.

As for my source, of course I can't reveal him. It'd be a plain disservice to his trust. What I can say is that he is a wealth of knowledge about all things GW, Forgeworld, and Black Library, and has many contacts therein (and I don't mean GW store managers. I mean Codex and BL authors, and GW and Forgeworld sculptors).

I would be very surprised if I was proved wrong by the passage of time and the developments therein, but such is the nature of the future. Take it or leave it, but I'm confident that you shouldn't have to take too much salt with this.

Well, it would make sense as to why there is a Dark Angel on the WD spine. But still, I am taking this with a grain of salt. I've been burned too many times.

June is only 6 weeks away, so if it has any basis in truth, we should see something official about Dark Angels in those weeks. Time will tell.

Dark Angels for the starter kit was a given at this stage, but I hadn't heard about Eldar. It DOES make more sense than Chaos, though, and it's been a while. I'd prefer it with Eldar anyway, as I'd play both of those armies quite happily, and my B-Day is in July.

Well the starter sets usually come a few months after a new edition, around September, so you'll have a late birthday present.

As a fun fact, Harry originally had Eldar as pegged in the starter set, but Hastings later came with Chaos. So either Harry had it right in the first place, or perhaphs this is just a rehash of the original rumour.

Necron are most likely in May, aye, which means we'll probably get advance orders up the end of this month. If Dark Angels are indeed in June, we'll see the advance orders at the end of May.

Much more interested in the starter set now (assuming this is accurate) - would love to see the unique eldar models that come with it.

Yay, Eldar. Boo, Dark Angels. If we got Sisters of Battle instead of Yet Another Space Marine Codex, then I'd be interested.

It has been getting harder and harder to see the new models now. I don't know what GW is thinking with their new policy. But let us not get into that discussion again.

With Sisters of Battle being mostly metal models and a WD codex, I wouldn't expect them in a starter kit anytime soon.

Sorry, I don't really understand how creating a new codex works but wasn't the chaos codex supposed to be done? So it would'nt matter if it's brought out in 2013, it would still be pre-6th edition book would'nt it?

The writing of a new edition isn't instant either, so any codex currently written is certainly written with the new edition in mind. Heck even older codices such as Space Wolves, Dark Eldar and Necrons have references or hints to new or changed rules of 6th edition that make no sense with the current edition.

Also, as with any rumours, don't take it as an absolute truth. It's entirely possible this rumour is completely false, or that if it's true, it's missing the Chaos codex in the schedule. It's not entirely unfeasable to have 3 40k codexes in the 40k 25th anniversary year. Or the Chaos codex rumours are completely false, who knows? Time will tell.

Time will tell indeed, hehe the closer we get to the date, the less salt I apply to rumours. I must stock up on more salt

Also don't forget that we have the 'Hobbit' coming out this autumn, and what ever we may think about it I'm sure that GW will be hoping it gives them as big a lift as Lord of the Rings. I'm sure there will be a new boxed starter set and plenty of new minis.

I'm gonna call BS right here. Every girl I know who has 40k stuff (not a heck of a lot) has Sisters of Battle. None of them have Eldar. Two of them do have Dark Eldar Wyches though. Hmmm...

Takes more than an eager low post count poster saying "It's Eldar, believe me" to shake my believe in Hasting's prediction. Contradicts too many current rumours, contains too many contradictions. Sounds fabricated, either by the poster, the source, or the source feeding the source. Maybe the latter.

Black templar needs some more love. imo, really getting behind in less Heroes, Less vehicles, less of everything, meets Blood, Wolf, Necron, GK, Dark elves, Dark angels, even eldars have more options. Really only Orks and chaos and perhaps tau that can really be on par with BT's

Agreed but a source has to start somewhere and salt is never in short supply. That said this one sounds more dubious then others.

Black Templars are Space Marines. Your argument is invalid.

I was really hoping for Chaos, as they are desperately in need of an update, but I'm vaguely interested in Eldar too, and I crave new Eldar models more than I do new Chaos models

Your local area does not define the entire game, you know that right? For instance, I am a girl and I play Eldar. The only other girl at our store plays Eldar. In fact, we're the only local Eldar players. The only person I know that plays SoB is a guy. But I wouldn't use that as a basis to say "Girls always play Eldar and never Sisters of Battle."

Eldar may or may not be the army that girls buy most often, but just updating them will not get more girls "into the hobby".

If they seriously would want to push miniature-wargaming and their lines in particular among girls in significant ways, they'd likely have to change their marketing more than their product line. I somehow doubt this is a major concern for them on releasing 6th Edition (which doesn say it is no concern at all).
