OK, my very first finecast model and, naturally, it's not so fine:

Bubbles on the pouch, shoulder pad and, worst of all IMO, the inside-left foot looks plain ragged.

Not the best photo, but bubbles on the chin and the bottom of the ear.

The backpack in general was better than the body, with the exception of this pretty big bubble.

So, without knowing much about general Finecast models, is this an "acceptable"amount of defects that I should look into fixing with GS, or would you consider this exchange worthy?

I did made the same buy and decided not to take back even if the bag he has on his waist was completely messed up. After trying to fix it I wish I would just took it back and demand a replacement. For the price you pay it is normally to much work correcting what should have been done perfectly the first time

I can't even see anything in those photos, apart from the last one.
As stated, if you're unhappy, just take it back and replace.

SIMPLEZ.

EDIT: When I say I can't see anything, I'm not talking about bubbles or whatever, I'm talking about the image quality.

This looks like an unusually bad casting, with both a large number of bubbles, as well as relatively large bubbles. As you noted, the foot just looks 'rough' (maybe lots of very small bubbles?). I've kept things with ONE bubble this large, or with a large number of pinhole size bubbles, but I'd definitely return something like this without feeling like I was being picky.

You should NEVER feel picky about taking something you're not happy with back to GW. You are paying top $$$ and for that should demand top Quality. GW claim they make the finest minatures in the world. That being the case you should recieve the finest minature in the world.

A bit of everything really....... Titanicus, Bolt Action, Cruel Seas, Black Seas, Blood Red Skies, Kingdom Death, Relic Knights, DUST Tactics, Zombicide the lit goes on.............

Like every one said if your not happy with it take it back. Exchange it for something else or just get you money back, Fine Cast is a failure and if you bought it in store you should check in the packet before you buy to make sure it is acceptable.

Thanks guys, I will take it in tomorrow and exchange for a new one...... that is checked before I leave the store.

I guess my biggest concern was walking in there and having the Red Shirt tell me that it was nothing a little GS couldn't fix which, as a newbie, it might've well been for all I know.

It *is* nothing a little GS can't fix. However, it's a fair amount of sculpting work to get the little bit of GS to blend in with the model. Given the skills and time, ANY model is repairable, the point is that you really shouldn't have to do that on a model in this price bracket. If I want to super-detail a £5 russian vac form aircraft model and bring it up to Tamiya levels of quality, I could. However, I could just buy a Tamiya kit for £20 and save hundreds of man-hours of work.

Yes.

There's no point in trying to fix that mess, return the faulty product for a new one.

I do think there's a point where a customer can be too picky (It's Finecast, not Perfectcast), but you are nowhere near that point.

Some people seem to think that any flaw at all is unacceptable, but I've never received any GW model, ever, that didn't have a mold line somewhere to remove. Your Big Mek is not just suffering from a mild case of mold lines and flash. It looks like it took a few shots from a wraithcannon.

Is there a sign on the side of your house that says "Bad Finecast Repair?"

I SAID, IS THERE A SIGN ON THE SIDE OF YOUR HOUSE THAT SAYS "BAD FINECAST REPAIR"?!

No?

Do you know why?

Because repairing bad FineCast isn't your fething business, that's why.

Take it back.

I've seen people say that in other threads that GW let them keep the corrupted model... That seems odd to me. I imagine that's for mailorder only? The backpack has a number of useful conversion pieces on it.

I got a flawless kff mek in fine cast. It is not like this sculpt predisposes it to flaws, most ork models are meaty enough to come out good.

I would get a new one. If they are nice enough to keep the one you got, then repair the backpack and slap it on an AoBR boy for a second kff mek.

Thanks again guys. Took the model back and it was exchanged with no fuss... outside of them not having any more Big Meks. I switched for a Weirdboy instead. Only peeked through the packet as I was in a rush, but seemed to be in better shape than my not-so-finecasted Big Mek!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Have finally examined the Weirdboy. When Finecast is done properly, it really is a wonderful thing. Detail is outstanding, and my model even came with 2 identical ork heads? Maybe they are meant to, or maybe this is just my good karma.
