Cruise Missiles and pistols both use chemical propellant. Not the same thing.
Same here.
Also, it is stated that they use magnetism to bind the plasma, but we have no indication whether or not magnetism is used to launch the round.
ALSO, magnetic weapon =/= railgun. A railgun is a very, very specific type of magnetic weapon.
I know what a rail gun is.
Never said anything bout cruise missiles. And I assumed that the plasma was magnetised as it was fired: thus allowing my rail gun style weapon theory plausible.
YKTSFW misunderstood.
Plasma cannons do not have rails. Therefore, not railgun. Oh, the worst thing ever, in the summer I think it was I had like a 30 something page argument about railguns vs mass drivers vs coilguns -_- I hate when people who don't know what they're talking about argue (Not you squirrel!)
It is magnetized as it leaves the barrel, which is different then being launched by magnets. "as it leaves the barrel" would imply that it's already moving
IIRC, a rail gun uses electromagnetic rails to repel an object at lightning fast speeds over long distances. I thought that with the plasma gun, the plasma enters the barrel and is is "shot" it gains cohesion due to the magnetic forces at work.
The American Navy successfully tested a rail gun mounted on a destroyer, shooting it beyond the horizon.
YKTSFW doomsday weapons everywhere.

That's right the difference being the railgun's magnetism moves the projectile while the plasma (at least in 40k where it works) holds the gas together in a ball.
There's also the Gauss guns (not the Necron ones), though I think that may just be another name for the coil guns...
YKTSFW the conversation of LoL turns into weapons.

I know, that was one of the sources of information I used for the aforementioned argument. 30 nautical miles is the range, and this little non-explosive round has the force of a tomahawk missile. They also tested one in-doors and got a mid-flight picture! It had a tail of fire and a gathering of plasma around the slug.
YKTSFW they have also tested plasma weapons, energy shields (of a sort), scanners that can find you because of a reflection from your retinas, MAHEM, pain rays and sonic weapons.
YKTSFW you try to find an effective use for plasma windows/shields to help protect spacecraft against debris collisions, in aerospace class. It's really hard to theorize a good way to cover a shuttle in plasma windows...

Iron Curtain isn't an energy shield, it fires a projectile downward onto the incoming rocket and causes it to explode, neutralizing the effect of the shaped charge.
My class was trying to get a paper moved back because my teacher was off for a week with strep. My teacher is an absolute saint, always so nice to us, more than reasonable with grades, and very fun. But today we were arguing our case and she flipped. She was shouting about how we have already had enough time to do this paper and how we should be done by now. My class "bad boy" starts screaming back about how she was gone for too long and we need an extension to ask questions and get it proofread. So half my class jumps in and starts arguing on his side while the other half (giant tools) were on my teachers side. Eventually about 5 kids were ordered out of the room, and another 7 are getting auto 0s on the paper
Bro, are you in 6th grade? Sending kids out of a room because of a disagreement is really an immature tactic. My teacher would just probably punch you in the mouth.

Ah, they feed you to the wolves where I go. (The 'wolves' being everyone and 'they' being whoever applied you there) At least no one smokes here, only in fear of being head locked by the vice-principal, Hulk Hogan

YKTSFW the horns on your KoS conversion constantly fall off so you cut some off a pink horror to use instead.
YKTSFW fiends are $40, so you decide to try to sculpt your own.
YKTSFW doing all this you have an assembled battleforce of Tau with a couple painted models taunting you to work on them instead as you know they won't be automatically shut down by some armies, they'd at least have a slight chance.
