What was galling is that Matt Ward included all the non-Ultra chapters in the number of those who "aspire to be like the Ultramarines". I'm sure they all respect them to varying degrees, but somehow I doubt a chapter like Space Wolves or Black Templar want to be like the Ultras (although arguments could be made for Blood/Dark Angels).
I was under the impression that Blood Angels are not inspired to be ultramarines, didn't they only take Guillman's book to appease him. They are probably the most isolated chapter too, because of the thirst, and break alot of those rules.

Well, I was mostly being facetious, but the BA would want to be like the Ultras in the sense that the death of the Ultramarines' primarch didn't make the whole chapter into unstable psychopaths on the verge of total mental collapse. And the DA would want to be like the Ultras in the sense that half of them didn't go traitor and none of them have to wear dresses or be bossed around by Warp Jawas.

Most Avatars are pretty bad. Hell, that one should consider itself lucky it got punched to death, instead of being turned into a generic CCW by a Grey Knight.

Short of a god or the Necrons, just about anything can be killed/destroyed quite easily. And doesn't Calgar have some really powerful Powerfists?

EVERYONE beats up Avatars of Khaine.
I cannot recall a single fight they have won.
Fulgrim choked one out.
Calgar punched one in half.
Twelve Carnifexes ripped one to pieces.
A Keeper of Secrets made one look like a tool and possessed it.
Beating an Avatar of Khaine means nothing at all, they are the Worf of 40k.

Well, the Keeper of Secrets was kind of molesting it before it awoke.
Then the Avatar of Khaine seized her throat with an "unbreakable grip."
Which the Keeper of Secrets proceeded to break.
Man, reading that, I dared to hope for a moment that the Avatar would do something cool.

It IS cool! (I love you, Matt Ward!...oops.)
To further clear it up, read this.
Codex: Blood Angels page 47 wrote:
Mephiston was once brother Calistarius, a librarian of exceptional valour and strength of character. Yet the Black Rage cares not for the nobility of soul, nor the deeds of the flesh. While Calistarius fought before the Walls of Hades Hive, during the Second War of Armaggadon, the curse of Sanguinius stole upon him. Inducted into the Death Company, Calistrius took part in the final assault on the Ecclesorium building, and was one of the many crushed when the building collapsed in a shower of debris.
For seven days and seven nights Calistrius lay entombed, his fevered mind teetering on the edge of madness and his broken body on the verge of death. Yet Calistrius did not succomb. Trough sheer force of will he confrontated the uncontrollable rage that burned trough his mangled form. With supreme effort, Calistrius cast out the Black Rage and, in so doing, become something far more then he had been before. At midnight on the seventh day, he burst free from his rocky prison, reborn as Mephiston, Lord of Death.
Hope that clears up.

well looking at it you can use it for marines, but dont feel left out if you think its just codex marines in the tyranid 2010 codex relese of white dwarf the gave datasheets for all marine armies to have legion of the dammed.
plus GW want to sell there new minis to as many people as possible if they didnt have those datasheets there that would be a futher backwards stage for GW yet again.
