Oh dear. So that's another year I'll have to wait until I pick it up. Having to wait that extra year before getting the Gaunts Ghosts books has been frustrating enough, but having to do it for this as well? Still, at least BL haven't tried to hardback the Horus Heresy books.
On the subject of the HH series, I finally finished Butcher's Nails. What did they do to Argel Tal?! I mean, Angron sounding like Beastman, from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, was at least tolerable, but Argel Tal sounds like a villain from a low-budget 60s science fiction show. I'm now half-way through The Primarchs, having just finished Feat of Iron. I enjoyed it more than The Reflection Crack'd, but from what folks here have been saying its all downhill from here. Still, I have many bus journeys to make during the week, so I dare say I shall get through it.

Mostly, we just learned that Angron suffers frequent nosebleeds, and that it IS possible to fire giant harpoons in space....

My favorite part is Kharn being the voice of reason to Angron. Plot spoilerized
Spoiler:
Basically Angron goads Lorgar into attacking the World Eater ships with his word Bearers. Just before they throw down, Eldar show up trying to stop one of them from following the Chaos Gods. Lots of eldar get smushed. And Eldar ships get harpooned. Lorgar and Angron fight together, and build camaraderie. I quite liked the interaction between the 2. Also the description of what exactly the implants do to Angron is kinda cool. I liked the "Space Harpoons" thing. Not much different than shooting boarding torpedoes in my mind.
I didn't make the Angron/Beastman connection, but I knew there was something familiar about his way of talking.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Just finished Deliverance Lost.
Was okay, but could have been better.
Spoiler:
I really disliked the ease with which Corax adapted the SM/Primarch DNA, and the rapid turn-around cycle from recruit to marine was excessive. It does create an interesting origin for the legend of the Raven Guard that we had before the novel. But it could have been so much better if it weren't the result of a traitor plot. By keeping the Alpha Legion hidden even through the climax, the anguish Corax felt for his failure would have had more meaning.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

But he's the voice of reason to Angron in the first 3 HH novels, as well. That's the part that cracks me up. Kharn is the diplomat for the World Eaters.

... not to do these silly and ultimately pointless limited edition books.
I agree with you, but when BL can make $150,000 US in a few hours, and not have to share any with a distributor/middleman, well, those of us who refuse to pay $50+ for a novella will continue to be left out in the cold, I'm afraid...

Yeah, that novel completely missed the whole point of the Raven Guard backstory. So rather than trying desperately to rebuild his legion and creating horrible monsters instead, we are now told Corax succeeded in making uber-marines, made them incredibly fast, and things only got screwed up because of outside meddling? How could he really be that distraught over this? If anything, dude should be proud. He clearly knows a better recipe for marines than even the Emperor. Based on that, rebuilding his legion later should be no problem.
Way to ruin what was once a tragic story, by replacing desperation, hubris, failure, shame, and guilt, with "I'm perfect, Snidely Whiplash did it."

This is something which consistently bothers me about individuals posting about the various stories we have in 40k.
The majority of it is presented to us in the form of an "omniscient viewer", where the various players are acting out their lives without knowing what the other is doing in full detail while we do in fact know. It becomes silly to have comments like what Warboss has quoted if, in fact, Corax does not know about the sabotage.

Well...
Spoiler:
Yes, he certainly does, as he lead the interrogation of all of his remaining marines and ferrets out the Alpha Legion infiltrators and executes them.
Now, there is no guilt or remorse for Corax.
He didn't create any monsters - someone else did!
As noted, he actually did a BETTER job at creating marines than the Emperor himself!
So really, there should be no tormented trek to the Eye of Terror in his future.
Corax, like so many Black Library authors before him, can now claim that "The Alpha Legion did it!"

Spoiler:
Somehow, I doubt that it will cleanse Corax of his guilt or remorse entirely, but lead to more a more "rageremorse". It might be less of a "tormented trek" to the Eye of Terror and more of a "I'm going hunting" trek, with him geared for war.

Thanks for the clarification. That book (among others) came out last year during a time where I was frankly a bit burned out on 40k books so I missed it. Yeah, I'd have to say that I would have preferred going with the original idea.

I'm most of the way through Void Stalker now, enjoying it though not as much as the other two. I miss the Exalted void battles
On the subject of continuity and BL, that really does frustrate me when the authors muck stuff around, especially if it's for a weaker plot than the original plot. I think we'd be better served waiting a long time and having a smaller stable of higher quality authors.
Honestly, Gav Thorpe isn't that bad, not to the extent that people make him out to be.
The "Sundering" series, for example, is downright fantastic.
The problem simply put is that the Horus Heresy has attained mythic proportions in the community--same as it did in the Imperium proper. We've got preconceived notions that the authors are shattering, and of course it doesn't sit well with us.

Or maybe everyone is just jumping the gun a little...
Spoiler:
Maybe the marines, even the somewhat mutated ones aren't actually the reason for the legions shame so far. But are instead simply the 'false hope' and it's the attempts now, or in a later book, to recreate the experiment where things go horribly, horribly wrong.

A nice attempt but no, I don't think that's it.
It is another goof up, that's all!

Not related to any actual news or rumors, but I am currently rereading Mechanicum to get myself into an AdMech mood.
I noticed that they are frequently using "Throne" as a curse. I always thought that "Oh Throne" and the likes referenced the golden throne, so I am pretty confused by the use of it in a pre-golden throne environment.
Did the use of "Throne" come from somewhere else or is this simply a continuity screw-up by Graham McNeill?

It could be a continuity screw-up, but it could also be the fact that while the Emperor was not interred within The Golden Throne...he was still an Emperor and it would still entail a kind of "seat of power".
Edit note:
Of course that's just my take on it. I mean, when you think of it as the "common man", he'd likely assume there's some kind of fancypants chair that the Emperor sits in.
