How much nerd rage will happen when 6th edition rules drop
A great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of nerds suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced
Most people will say "It sucks!" and move onto other games
Some people will like it, some will hate it
A few people will quit, the majority will embrace it
Everything's shiny, Cap'n. Not to fret.

My prediction :
Just as when 4th edition D&D was released, were going to see a small (and very vocal) portion of the player base quit with major nerd rage.

Armies will be sold cheaply on ebay as half of them liquidate their armies swearing never to play a GW game again. The other half will swear to only play 5th edition and hold 5th edition events -- cradling their rulebook like a puppy.

80% of them will be playing 40k 6th edition with their friends again in 6 months time.

What do you predict?

I think that was the major cause of the nerd rage of D&D 4th edition.

Given what the rumors are about this edition, it sounds like more of an overhaul than 4th to 5th was, and so we can expect to see more nerd rage. How much is the real question.

I voted for the 4th, though too bad there's no multiple choice to also get the shiny answer. I expect an alright amount of "my army is now broken" and "[insertarmy] is too stronk and it is in no way my own failing even though I'm taking exactly what [insertarmy] wants to see and refuse to use anything but wet newspaper for weaponry or walk into extremely obvious traps" threads. So business as usual.

It was a difficult choice between the two extremes, firefly or star wars, and I decided on firefly. But I actually think its more likely to be the second-to-least-rage answer, but I just couldn't help but vote for kaylee...I love kaylee, shes so cute.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

Heh, they don't even need to release 6th. I've already seen the preemptive nerd rage that's erupted with the vague bits of rumor that we've been given about it.

Apparently we just like to bitch and moan, and will do so with or without valid reason. For hours of our lives on end.

I was into 40k about 15 years back, literally half my life ago. I've been putting an army together on and off for years but only started playing again fairly recently. I'm still picking up the rules and have to be corrected and guided by my opponent. So when 6th hits if we all go back to being newbies that suits me down to the ground.

The only nerd rage I see coming is those who have their armys tailored to exploit the current rules. Don't ask me what those exploits might be but I'm sure they exist. To me any update to the hobby is a welcome one. Especially if it comes with a new big shiny book of pictures and fluff... and just maybe we'll get magic/psyker power cards like those high-falootin fantasy folk as they sure are making a fuss of the psykers this time.

I predict that Nerd Rage will occur, but I doubt that it will be too strong, there will always be some who won't like the change and quit whilst complaining to the internet but I think that the vast majority will stay.

This is GW.

When GW does anything there will be an unbearable barrage of nerd rage. Especially in places like Dakka.

There will be annoying, unbearable nerd rage.

If there is, it is completely unwarranted! In the days of yore issues of WD gave more of a change to the rules than this new edition will likely bring - had there been an internet back then in popular use, can you imagine when Marines changed from T3 to T4, or when 3rd edition came in? There would have been a hundred threads of 'WTFOMG NO OVERWATCH?!?!?!?'

This edition will likely ask you to change what you already have a lot of in your collection for something else, but it's not going to turn the game on its head. Far from it in fact.

I fully expect people to rage like their world has just come to a grinding halt. Worlds will end, empires will crumble, orphan tears will be drank, sacrifices made to the chaos gods, armies melted, books burned, and the great nerd purge will begin!
I expect the forms for the first few months to resemble a gathering of senior citizens hopped up on energy drinks, overly excited as they cry nonsense and doom about how things were infinitely better 'back in the day' and how life isn't worth living now.
However, we see this all the time in anything 'nerd' related when there is a big change. When D&D changed from 2nd to 3rd, my whole gaming group quit. Anyone who has played wow and been around for any of the expansions has seen elitists spam the forums trying to convince everyone there is no point in playing any more.

There will be complaining, and it may seem like the consensus is to hate 6th ed, but it will just be the people with the loudest voice shouting their opinion. Yes the game will change, I believe for the better. At least that has been my experience from 3rd to 4th and then again to 5th, shared by everyone in my local gaming group.

People will quit, but over all when the dust settles in a few months, and the players smooth out with the new game play mechanics, we'll all look back and laugh about how silly people were.

I for one can't wait for 6th! And DA, but that's another story.

Raging Nerds gonna nerdrage...

Regardless of the reality, as has happened with every edition release that I have witnessed there will be a massive storm of rage.

Personally I will be going on a 40K hiatus when 6th is released? why? because for the 'leaked' cost of the rulebook I can purchase a heck of a lot of models in other game systems that I have been wanting to indulge in for a while (Bushido and Dystopian Wars). I will wait until the starter box comes out and then buy the mini-rulebook off ebay.

There are a number of people who are going to say it's terrible without even playing it. A good deal of them are already bitching and saying it's the worst thing ever, and even if the rulebook had the best rules ever written and came with Jervis Johnson's Golden Ticket they would still say so.

I voted the fourth option, as people will quit yet most of us will stick around. The core of the game will still be the same - cool dudes shooting each other and charging each other with chainsaws. We know the basic rules are going through another iteration and will shake things up quite a bit. While I'm sure it will fix some old problems it will probably bring up a few more in a couple months when people figure out how to break it.

4th was better than 3rd and 5th was better than 4th from a rules perspective. I feel pretty confident that 6th will be better than 5th, and I'm looking forward to playing on a new battlefield where rules have changed.

On moon miranda.

Like anything else, some will like it, some will hate it.

I'm not particularly enamored of most of the changes, a lot of the stuff we've seen appears, to me at least, to be randomness and/or changes simply for their own sake, a lot of over-reaction to certain things that really are more codex specific issues and not really core rules based, and a lot of reversion (I'm expecting somewhat of a reversion to 4E invinci-skimmers with flyers and some skimmers).

Overall, very indicative of a confused and inconsistent design paradigm. I don't think they really know what they want the game to be or how they want it to really play.

That said, I guess we'll see what happens once we have a full and clear picture of the rules.
