Okay ,my horrible stick figure guy aside this is approximately 2.12 inches/ 54mm. I like the 54mm scale idea but after seeing this I feel pretty certain that like Peter said it would be too big. So back to the 25mm scale idea, I am loving the master of "insert" space marine! Thanks again Peter As far as a color I am probably going to go with a brighter gray highlighted to white, washed with a watered down black wash. The water will be dirty and stagnant with some debris and what nots.

Thanks again for all the feedback and as always keep it comin!!!

Mike

OH-I Wanna get out of here

In one last defense of the 54mm, are not most statues of, well, anything, larger then life? The Iwo Jima Memorial for instance, would be much less grand if the were the same size as me. Or pretty much any war memorial. Fluff wise, it would make sense that a space marine statue be large as well, due to there larger then life image.

Maybe one of the True Scale kits that Chapter House is coming out with soonish?

Thanks whalemusic, you know I love your suggestions but after seeing that cut out I am convinced. I am going to buy the space marine statue terrain kit. I am thinking two of them as a entrance to the city. But that is a few projects away. Thanks again buddy!

Ps, I don't think chapterhouse is going to be around much longer.

Off topic, beasts of war YouTube content is starting to really really suck. Anyone else feel without john they are lost. Just a rant , sorry.

My day off and no motivation to paint, Ughhh!

Oh well at least I have decided on a model for the statue in the fountain http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440173a&prodId=prod2010020&rootCatGameStyle= I will be using the master of the fleet model

Anyway maybe when the mood strikes I will go to the painting table. Pictures to follow if I can get anything done.

How do you guys get motivated to finish/start a project?

Thanks as always,
Mike

Good choice of model. I think that'll work really well as it will make a change, if you're getting the massive Honoured Imperium statues you'll have enough Space Marines.

Have you decided to 'make' the statue out of Stone or Bronze?

As for motivation.....I started a blog...oh you already have one of those! I find it helps to change what I'm doing, for example if I've been modelling I will paint something and vice versa. If I've been doing 40k I'll paint something fantasy... Recently I painted Skaven Warlord Spinetail as a break from Dark Eldar. Other peoples projects also help... I've been motivated by Molotov's INQ28 http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/240062.page to the extent I've started work on another project entirely and because I'm so excited by it I've been motivated. The other thing that really helps me is to not have too many projects on the go at once (I'm so failing at this one) and when they suck me down I try to finish the one that'll take take the least time.

Hope that helps

Thanks Peter, the officer of the fleet is standing so perfectly I just had to use him. As for the color it will most likely be bronze with some patina on it. I will also be using the same technique as I did on the sarcophagus The main reason I lost my motivation today was I did not get something in the mail that I ordered forever ago. I was planning on finishing the graveyard today but the cobblestone flooring has yet to arrive Thanks for the tips on keeping moving. I kinda did the same thing last week when I painted the Nid Great advice for anyone with an artistic block or no motivation

Thanks as always and keep the comments coming,

Nothing to major to show. I did some pretty heavy highlights to make it look like a fancier stone. I added about 4 stages of gray leading up to pure white. After that dried I added a very very thin mix of black and brown ink. It turned out pretty good and I was also thinking blue water for a change. As always thanks for checking out my thread and let me know what you think!

Now here is the sad part I am horrible at script and freehand writing. Ever since Peter posted this I have been toiling over writing your names on the headstones \ I must have tried a dozen times and each time it looks like crap I am thinking about one of the macro pens to help me out.

Cool, I don't actually remember putting my name forward for the honour but cool. Cheers.

Best piece of advice I was ever given about painting letters....start in the middle of the word and work outwards in both directions. That way the word will be central and you wont run out of space...if you've planned it.

madmartykmf - Well ok.....it feels really weird being killed off (guess that'll be the spraying indoors ) Cheers and while your stuff remains so good I will keep on posting support and ,now you've killed me off, I shall hold no punches if something you do turns out pants. Though I doubt I will see pants in this thread.

whalemusic360 - When we join this club do we get badges? I'm pretty sure I can pull it off too...I pretty much feel like it this morning anyways. Now lets see I think I want a red velvet lining.

If you want to use an 28mm figure on the fountain, why not use Lord Solar Macharius, one of the most venerated Guardsmen of all time?

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1490651&prodId=prod1140060

Also: what everyone else has said: awesome work, I plan on blatantly ripping you off (err, I mean, "creating an homage to your style") when I finally build my omega table. (One of these years, I swear... ), etc. etc.

Boy was I tired this morning I completely missed your comment! Thank you very much for the statue suggestion, he would be pretty cool. I think I am going to stick with the master of fleet though. As far as your "stealing" my ideas comment, help yourself... imitation is the biggest form of flattery

Thanks again for the comments and keep um coming,

I need your help gang , what color should I make the water in the fountain? I got the itch to do some painting and kinda want to do a blueish color BUT does a dirty debris filled fountain fit my city better?

What say you my friends?

Love the new work - golden. Excellent choice of model for the fountain (which is already looking great) - I think an inquisitor sized model would look too large for the fountain (but would look great as a stand alone statue).

You could probably get away with a clear/blue water IF the fountain is actually still flowing (the running water would arguably still be relatively clean). If you are going 'stagnant pool', then stick with dirty.

Thanks for the comment, I have a spout thing(y) but I don't think I will be using it so no running water. I guess that is 1 vote for stagnant water!
