Good point Proiteus. There isn't too much to do with the valk... that's easy to see, anyway.

The pilots looks so good, but I want to say, try looking at it without the cockpit on it. I think it would look more like a squig then... maybe they found a valk that had been shot down?

But I'm not sure that will lead anywhere either. Maybe mod it with some Tau engines or something. Instead of the wings, slap some Devilfish engines on there so they can swivel. See how that looks...

I'm trying to think up some valk conversions myself... not that I have one, but I'm trying to plan the ships for the Wicked Peter crew.

ps: that was the last cartoon I got into.

Only issue I have with the thunda-kopta is just what yourself and GG have said - it doesn't match the grottyness of your other conversions. Had only seen one chopper conversion before, hadn't realised it was that popular - although as it's the obvious route maybe I should have.
Looking at the beast wars drones, they have that 'w' look, so maybe flipping the wings over would work, putting the rotors at the tips this time (sorry, know I'm repeating myself there ). GG has a good idea with the tau engines though, that would change up the silhouette a bit. Maybe 4 smaller 'thrusters', 2 per side, with a modified cockpit?

I'm found this conversion which could make a great osprey look alike if I replaced the jets with rotar engines, maybe using parts from a defiler or something...

Problem is while the rocket pods look okay I have doubts that Lascannons would look as good attached to the wings. I could have grot heavy weapon teams with lascannons in the doors but that raises line of sight issues. It's the same with the conversions without the wings, I could attach the lascannons on the side over the door using dreadnought weapons but it would mean the copter would have to be directly facing the target.

The current Thunda-Kopta model is a solid conversion with it's only main issue is being that compared to the rest of the army it's appears lacking in creativity. But it's so damn hard to come up with a conversion that doesn't bastardise the model or hasn't already been done!

I think that you should go with an option simlar to that one. Swivel engines would be a challenge and are a lot rarer than other kopta conversions out there. It would definitely stand out from the crowd a lot more.

Hmmm, I think the reason the pods look good is that they're tubular, complementing the jets. If you had a more upright 'body' for the rotors (nacelle?) the las-cannons might be a contrast with it. Then again, I may be just waffling

I'd leave them as jets/thrusters, but I think they would look better in some sort of housing, perhaps something looking more like one of the engines from one of the tau ground vehicles.

DAT'Z REAL KILLY, GAZZA KAN YA BUILD ME SUM!
I'm now considering creating a 2nd Thunda-Kopta but feature the cool converted wings from the Valkyrie model pictured above; making those angles where the landing gear goes appear like engines with some fuel tanks and other bits and place the rotar blades above them. It would look more like a choppa then than a rocket powered gunship, plus the wing mounted lascannons from my thunda-kopta would probably look good at that angle. Not sure about adding the wings at the front thou.

What do you think, would using those wings on a Thunda Kopta improve it?

You can see more of that awesome valk conversion here > http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7328875/1/

Yes it would improve it Protieus and it would fit your conversion aesthetic that you have running with the Grotz.

I really like the thunder-copter but I think the valkyrie wings are a bit too large. What about something a bit more like this?

The new wing system looks very promising.

What about putting a turret on it? Either on the top or bottom, OR on the sides were the body narrows to the cockpit. You would have to do something else with the sensors/lights that are there, but it might look cool and solve the LOS issues.

And that one looks like a promising avenue as well, Flinty.

While we're on the topic of kopta conversions, check out these sentinel conversions:

Might get some creative juices flowing for a brand new, as of yet un thought of conversion for the valk.

I could see them as mounted on turrets if you go the way of the osprey. Something like:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Light-Tank-Turret-/260702017350?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb30d1746#ht_720wt_905

These are pretty good. They're made to fit as a baneblade sponson size turret.

... OOO! I guess I meant sponson style turrets. having the guns sticking out of the side, rather than the top.

You could base it of the valkyrie in StarCraft it's pretty cool.

The Old Crow mini turrets fit rather nicely on the Valkyrie. I used one as a nose turret on my Vendetta

Failed on what grounds sir, to me it looks like a very fun conversion. Maybe a bit of netting over the top and some guide ropes tethering it to the craft?

That is certainly not a fail! Like lenny said, some netting made out of bandages and a few bits of plastic to hold the balloon up and you have yourself a nice looking zeppelin. Nice use of bitz BTW!

While it's a cheap and fun looking conversion it has many faults due to it's size...

1st: I can't justify it' being able to carry 10 grot guardsmen, so I would have to sacrifice it’s transport ability, and if I make the model bigger it becomes a hazard on the tabletop.

2nd and the main reason is it's only the size of the Valkyrie's main body without the wings, tail and front cockpit meaning it would be unfair regarding it being in range for my opponent. Giving the impression that your modelling for your advantage is one of the bit falls of converted armies, hence the reason I added the trailers to the Dakka Tanks to make up for it’s small length.

What bitz did you use to create the "body"? I'm especially interested in the front end.

Anyway if I have not said this before, i really like your army(/ies). Keep it up

I think it would be a fun model to build anyway. Maybe it could be a HQ transport in the future: smaller transport, bigger guns? But I see your points about it's failure as a counts-as valk.

Hmm, I can definitely see why it would make a bad counts-as valk because of its size. Needless to say it would still make a very nice objective marker or a center piece for a diorama.

blambi- I am almost certain that the parts come from an IG bastion kit namely the power box that holds the lascannon on the top of the bastion. The only thing that puzzles me is that the thing that is holding the would-be lasgun at the front looks like it is from a baneblade which leads me to wonder where the rest of it is

Incorrect, it's actually the defence line kit: barricades on the side and turret placement for the cockpit.

Ah yes, but I think the cockpit comes with the bastion as I found this part in the kit and I am pretty sure it is the same.
