Hmmmmm.
I hate to interupt a somewhat bloodless coup, but I have pictures.
First off, I got a shipment yesterday! One of the items was resin dye! I thought I was getting "black" or at least "gray" because that was how it was pictured in the example. The color is called "African American". I think I need to use more, because what I currently have in there makes it look more like chocolate milk. But it does show up a lot better than the bright white that I had. So, I poured some more resin last night. I used a combination of the syringe method and the pressure pot. All I can say is wow what a difference the pressure pot makes! It's more of a PITA, but it makes such a difference!
Here is a couple of pictures of the first good cast of the female head:

Also in the package was a block of modeling clay, so that I can try out the actual two-part mold. Not just a "cut" mold like I have been using. I should have started with this method! So that I could appeciate the "cut" method more! It's like learning to use a calculator to solve a problem before you have to do it long hand! I think I'll stick to the cut method from now on. This two-part method takes like 3 times as long to do! It might make a better, longer lasting mold, but I'd rather re-do the mold than do this again. There may be some instances that I need to do a two-parter, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
Anyway, here is the mold with the clay in place, ready for the mold rubber:
And after the modeling clay has been removed, waiting for the second half of the mold rubber:
I also have the mold forms for the other skull helmets ready for mold rubber tonight. I can hopefully get those cast up and production molds made for those in the coming weeks.
Thanks for looking,
RSJake

Well, those are sculpted on, but yeah, I would rather be doing other things.
These are just over 2mm high I think.
That would be awesome! I've been trying to think of ways to do this easier, and I have come up short.

I'll see what I can come up with later tonight...
I can make it cut any single-path vector graphic...and fonts seem to translate and cut very easily. I just don't know what I'm doing as far as making or converting graphics very well. I prefer the drawing tools in MS Visio, but they don't always translate to cutting very well.
Plastic, or thick card?? Automatically Appended Next Post: I always thought sculptors used these punches for some reason....
http://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-6610-32-Inch-Letter-36-Piece/dp/tech-data/B000NPUKY8
but I guess that would make them recessed and not raised eh? Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, it might not do fancy fonts well, but block-type letters it does easily, especially the 40K fonts with the skulls and aquillas and ork glyphs and such. Very useful stuff to print (even if it is a bit like cheating )

Yeah, but when making a mold, the embossed latters will be a part of the mold. On outside of the mold directly, I can see at a glance what is inside the mold. On the sprue, I can have my company name.
Anyway, that's where the whole cutting of plastic came from.

@Wehrkind- see my blog for the latest experiments.. It is not the best product out there for model builders like us. Mine was given to me (or left by an ex-gf) - that is the only reason I have one and am trying to bend it to my will
@Jake- Those letter punches I showed you would only work for embossing letters onto a thin sheet of PC if the punch had the letters backwards eh?

Dave, yeah, I was thinking though, that those punches could work, but I'd have to get creative. Like make the punch, fill it in with gs, and then pop the letters out, and glue them where I want them, and even backwards if needed.
One of those Embossed tape things will work though, I guess they still sell them at Office Depot.

I'm still looking into this matter. I think maybe I could use a 3D printing service to make some personalized sprues. I don't think that would be cheating. I could have them make some rivet sprues too!
Not much to update here either except that I got the mold done for the boiler tank! It looks pretty good! Here is a pic of the original and the first cast:
Even with all of those rivets, only ONE of the rivets had a bubble in it! And that is easily fixed with some GS. So I should have a mock-up of the boiler engin soon....I hope.
This is going pretty slow, and I think it may take the better part of the Summer. Oh well, I don't want to rush it.
Thanks for looking!

Thanks Vik!
I hurt my back the other day, and it has just gotten worse, so I can't even lift the trap door to get to the basement to pour more resin.
I'm starting to get better though, so, soon I should be able to get back to it.
I think I have figured out how I want to do the feet for the walker at long last! Yay! I still have some work to do to get it how I want it, to see if it will in fact work. I'll get some pics then, don't want to get too excited in case it's a crap idea again.
For the Boiler and furnace, I think I will go with the horzontal tank option after all. It will just work better, otherwise, if it's vertical, there is too much unused space to fill in. But we'll see, I still don't have it put together. I can't even sit at my desk right now. Flat on my back most of the time at home.
Until later,
RSJake

It's not that I think anyone will laugh, I get plenty of that at home, I'm used to it.
It's that none of my sketches quite measured up to what was in my head. But I have already almost finished the actual thing, and the Apoxie sculpt should be cured by morning and I can at least put the pieces together to give you the basic idea of what I have in mind.

I second the stretching the hamstrings advice. I had a sore back for a few years, which was weird with my super sedentary job. No one knew why till one day after a fighting event I woke up and realized I couldn't feel my left foot. Apparently my left hamstring was super tight, and was pinching off the nerve in my leg, as well as pulling my spine over to the left. Yay! Still gives me a little trouble, but by in large stretching every day helped a lot. More than all the muscle relaxants and crap they had prescribed me.

Thanks everyone! The back is feeling better. Yeah, I try to stretch every day, but with these two little kids that want to be picked up all the time, my back gets more abuse than an S&M fetishist! Ha!
Anyway, I got the foot and lower leg assembly for the walker together, or at least what will be the foot after some more work.
Here it is next to Mr. Plague Marine:
And also next to the hull for the walker for additional scale refference:
And here is what I am planning for it:
There will of course be much added to it, like wires, hose, more pistons, access hatches and what not.
I figure, it I leave it long like it is, I can adjust the joint for the next leg section up or down this section to increase or decrease the hight, and it might even be able to get the whole thing up to around 7 or 8 inches if I want it to count as a Knight Titan! We'll see when I am at the assembly phase though.
Thanks for looking,
RSJake
