Thats alot of doors/windows to cover, though.

Not saying you wouldn't have enough supplies to board them up, but would you have the time to?

And I've decided, I'm just going to shoot things come the Zombie Apocolypse, none of this holding out crap. Too many spoiled rotten bitches around here.

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

The biggest drawback to your plan is that in all probability a great many others will have the same idea,so in a worst case scenario you and your friends are now caught in the middle of a panicked mob with the high potential for becoming extreamly dangerous ,so you and your friends would have to "conquer" a large group of people who would quite likely be on the verge of rioting.
Even if you somehow did get everyone to cooperate and barricade the store, you have to consider that a large group of people will rapidly deplete your resources, but even more concerning, your most likely going to have a lot of "dead weight",people who will for all intents and purposes be completely useless for anything other than perhaps being eventually eaten and allowing you a chance to escape, not to mention in such a large group your going to have to be extreamly watch full for problematic people, crazies, mutineers and the possibly infected...

Basicly,at least during the initial outbreak, anyplace with lots of people is the last place anyone should be.

There you go. Come Zombie Games time, give us a week or two to clear 'em out, and then the radio will start broadcasting the awesomeness of the New Republic of Texas*

I really love how people talk about all the guns they are going to take. I own 4 guns. 2 rifles 2 hand guns and will probably buy a few more down the road but never see myself owning more than say 8 or 9. Even so, if I had 9, I would only take probably one or two guns with me max. Guns are heavy, ammo is heavy, and I am not going to haul around a little red rider wagon to carry all my ammo in. Vehicles powered by petroleum are worthless in an all out infrastructure failure. Your resources are limited and probably gone by the time it hits.

Spend too much time gather people, supplies, and things like trucks, buses, and so forth you are going to get stuck or you are going to die. If not by the undead, by the living. You try stealing a giant truck and there are 50 other people who have the same idea and they all have guns, I bet it won't end well for everyone involved.

My plan is to get out as soon as possible and once things die down maybe go look for survivors, but that could take months or years. The living that also survive are way more dangerous. You going to set up patrols to keep your truck loads of supplies safe? What about people ambushing you and killing you a night and taking your goods. You aren't really being discrete when you have a caravan of people and vehicles going down roads.

My plan is grab a weapon, some ammo, some basic supplies and all the water I can carry and then hop on my bicycle and follow the train tracks south. Warmer climate, train tracks usually don't hit central hubs in town (some exceptions) and they are usually off near the outskirts you can avoid major traffic and avoid being noticed.

You will have to part with your dozens of guns, your favorite material possessions, and only really keep the essentials. Unless you live in a fortified compound and can just hold up. Then again, you still have other humans who are very desperate lurking around as well.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentations of the Eldar!

I will not have to part with my small arsenal of shooty goodness, for they are my favorite material possessions, and I plan to keep them for they are essential to my survival.

I also hate to use the word compound, cause it makes people think of backwater nut jobs waiting to over throw the gubberment... but one can compare the place where me and my friends plan to bug out to one.

As for other people, I won't worry about them in the least. Cause ill be the guy sitting on the roof across from wall mart with a Rem 700 waiting for you to finish loading that uhaul full of supplies for me before I take it from you.

I definitely agree with Crom concerning Firearms and travel, trying to lug a dozen guns + ammo along with food/water + other supplies while on the road will be a really bad idea.
1 or 2 pistols + a riffle and assorted ammo/magazines per person on the road is all you should carry, along with a good machete.
Now...if your holding up in a fortified compound..go nuts with guns/ammo....see ya there Jp.

Indeed. Just found another long term shelf stable food source that comes in a variety of flavors. (25+ Year shelf life in controlled storage)

Also a quick update to all who follow my shooting antics:

Just properly zeroed this bad boy (.223) yesterday and was able to shoot a dime at 100Yrds using this ammo:

Can't wait to run it through its paces on the up to 1000yrd range and see what it really can do.

The only thing Id change in that list, is I prefer the umph of a shotgun to the rifle. Not to mention if you get the typical "OH gak A ZOMBIE FROM NO WHERE" you can panic and still drop/headshot it easy enough. shotguns are forgivable. But thats a preference thing. I laughed at the hotbody girl on her knees. That just seems a bit weird, not to mention hotbody girls boobs are crazy huge. Those might be a distraction

Body armor is heavy and cumbersome and most brass/lead rounds go right through it anyway. Steel ammo is also more subjective to corrosion and is harder on your barrel. I bought 1,000 steel core mil surp rounds for my Mosin in 7.62x54R. I don't think any body armor would hold a stick to such a round. I also don't think most body armors can stand up against a 7.62x39 or even a 5.56 lead round and body armor doesn't cover all parts of your body either. Getting shot anywhere in post apocalypse means you will most likely die from infection or bleeding out. If any major artery is touched, then you are doomed. It is not like medical treatment will be up and running, and unless your with someone who can perform surgery you are done for.

Now, body armor versus the zombies, that may actually have a benefit if you have to melee your way through the hordes. Though hand to hand should always be a last ditch effort.

You really, REALLY need to read up on the different class's of protection available right now. Flex vests without sapi protection are light weight, easy to use, low profile, and offer ok protection against pistol threats. They are what most Patrol officers wear while on duty.

They won't stop a rifle round though or certain pistol calibers in +P.

Rifle Ballistic Plates (LvL3-4) will most certainly stop 5.56 and 7.62x39. Esapi will stop AP versions of those rounds, while lvl 4 can stop 30-06AP multiple hits at point blank range.

Also, they don't make bullets out of brass. Most common are a lead core with a copper jacket over it. While your "AP" rounds tend to be a core of steel with a copper jacket over it.

Also, body armor will cover as much of your body as you are willing/able to lug around.

Myself, I wear a Multi hit, stand alone, LvL 4 10x12 front/back + 2 side plates, a neck/throat protection, ACH with an aftermarket ballistic face shield (rated frag/9mm), and a femoral artery protector.

When on turret duty and I know I won't be running around, I also wear deltoid protection, and aftermarket ballistic arm protection(Frag/9mm) to help protect my more exposed upper body.
