Subject: Chaos Lords - How do you build them?

Hey everyone!
My apologies if something similar to this has already been posted. The goal of this thread is simple. Let's discuss the build(s) that you've had success with, or that you're anxious to try out, for your Chaos Lords, and what tactics you plan to employ with it. If you aren't running a Lord, then feel free to discuss the other HQ choices, but since Lords have a near infinite supply of builds, I figured they would be the best unit to discuss.
So, the one build I'm most looking forward to try is:
Chaos Lord of Slaanesh
Steed
Sigil of Corruption
VotLW
Burning Brand
Lightning Claw
175 (Gift is optional)
Outflank/Acute Senses with an AP3 Torrent means he can smoke the backline units with ease, and he does so by having an effective range of almost 32"!! (12" move, 12" Torrent, 8" Template)
This makes it nearly impossible to avoid his attack, since he has a decent chance of showing up on whichever side is most beneficial, giving about an 8" safe zone down the middle of the board, and that is IT!
Right now I plan to run him on his own, although I am toying with a bodyguard of either Slaanesh Bikers (to keep T5 and gain FNP) or Spawn (to keep Fleet). Really any unit would be good and would benefit from the ability to outflank. I may even run him with a troop a few times just so I can have an objective claiming unit in the opponent's backfield.
So, who is everyone's Lord of choice?

I'm running this Khorne Lord with a squad of Raptors: Chaos Lord -155pts MoK Axe of Blind Fury Jump Pack Aura of Dark Glory Gift Melta Bombs He's not quite as good as he use to be (I really miss the Bloodfeeder!!!), but still packs quite a punch, putting out 7-11 S6 AP2 attacks on the charge and 5-9 after that.He tags along with an 8-man Khorne Raptor squad with 2 Meltaguns and a Champion with a pair of LC and an Icon of Wrath for the reroll for charge distance. One thing to note is he attacks with WS5 due to the Blind rule from the Axe

Well, Lords can be instantly killed (such as Daemon Princes), which is bad news. In the thickest melee, you might get disappointed when he dies.
I'd take him in a deliverance mode. With LoS, he should be able to deliver a unit of Bikers or Spawns to their target. Then you could go harrassing some Havocs, Devastators or whatnot.

Nope
Originally I gave him a 4++ and a Powerfist, but decided to swap those for the Murder Sword and the 5++.

Cheaply. Take a mark to unlock and a power weapon and nothing else.
One HQ must have the brand as it's an auto-take.
I'd not put anything else on my Lords. 6th is a shooting game, and they're geared for CC only.
The 4++ is too expensive btw. 25 points, that's stupid.

I build mine like this
Chaos Lord
MoS
Power Weapon
Sigil of Corruption
VotlW
Gift of Mutation
135 points
I then put him with a 9 man unit of MoS Chaos Marines (I give up their Boltgun for free CCW) and put them in a rhino with Dirge Caster.

This Lord munches through quite literally almost everything, for the low price of 170 points. Granted he can still get instant-killed by Str10 weapons but other than that, there's not a lot that can even touch him.
Chaos Lord (170)
Mark of Khorne
Axe of Blind Fury
Sigil of Corruption
Juggernaut of Khorne
On the charge, he has 3base+1 for 2 CCW+2 from rage+1 from the Juggernaut for 7 attacks, so he basically has 9-13 attacks unless you roll a 1 in which case he has 7 attacks at WS1. But the 16% chance is totally worth it considering that said attacks are Str6 and have an AP of 2!

I've got two builds I'm currently toying with, both are 185: Lord -MoN -Bike -Black Mace -VotlW -Gift -Sigil Lord -MoK -Juggernaut -Axe of Blind Fury -VotlW -Gift -Sigil Depending on the list it'll be one, one w/a DP, or both. And they'll either both be in a 10-man undivided bike squad or they'll be put in marked or undivided spawn units.

Well I would like to run my Chaos Lord with the following gear to keep him somewhat cheap and survivable:
Terminator armour
2x Lightning claws
Mark of Nurgle
Blight grenades
Gift of mutation
He costs a total of 157 points and doesn't go down to a single power fist, while still shrugging off small arms fire decently. You can add VotLW or not depending on your local meta (If you don't know what you are facing, just give it to him to be sure), and he unlocks PM as troops. Just stick him with a terminator bodyguard and deep strike, or stick them in an LR if you have the points and want to go mechanized.

If you spend those 25 points, that brings you to the base cost of the old Lord, which had a 5++.
It also makes you 10 points cheaper than a base SM Captain, which has a 4++.
I'm not sure I understand how that makes him too expensive, when it actually makes him cheaper than other comparable HQs. There is no reason for them to make it any cheaper.

I need to playtest, but Im thinking either make the lord a tank with terminator armour, sigil of corruption & MoT (2+/3++)
& power weapon & use him to spearhead an assaulty/countercharge unit,
Or keep him cheap as chips & use him as delivery for the dimensional key on a disc of tzeentch or a bike.

It is quite expensive, but I'm toying with a Terminator-armoured Lord of Tzeentch with the Sigil of Corruption, a Lightning Claw and a Chainfist. 2+/3++ makes him about as survivable as possible (though admittedly allowing a melta/fist to kill him) and he has the option of I5 S4 AP3 Shred attacks or I1 S8 AP2 Armourbane attacks - and since both are specialist weapons, he gets the bonus attack. Since he's pretty expensive already, you may as well go the whole hog and give him VotLW and Gift as well.
I also like the Mark of Khorne, Juggernaut, Axe of Blind Fury, Sigil of Corruption build... Leading a pack of Khornate Spawn or Bikers.

For that amount of points, I'd just go with Abaddon, since you aren't using him to unlock cult troops. Abaddon is 2+/4++ but he has higher toughness, more wounds, and eternal warrior, as well as being more killy in assault.

Close! he IS 10p cheaper than an SM captain, but whats the difference? One has a BP/ CCW, the other has a BP/ PW. You gotta pay another 15p to get "equal" to an SM captain, but then you end up 5p over. But you don't have to give him a PW, you can give him something better and end up with a beatier stick for not much more price

I'll be going with:
Mark of Khorne
Boon of Mutation
Axe of Blind Fury
Plasma pistol
Aura of Dark Glory
Veterans of the Long War
Mainly because it fits a model I already have, but the plan is to have him leading a large unit of (now Troops choice) Berzerkers, which are mainly a method of getting him around safely but I expect quite a few to survive and do their own damage.
The axe allows him to hurt more or less anything without striking last. The plasma pistol will come in handy for placed shots going on unit characters and possibly getting another Boon out of it. He's also not too expensive considering how much he should end up straight-up murdering...

While not exactly a Chaos Lord, I am planning a Terminator Geared Sorcerer to act as a 2nd HQ in my Thousand Sons list with Ahriman as the warlord.
So far I am looking at the following gear
Mark of Tzeentch
Combi Bolter
Force Sword
2 Extra Mastery Levels
He will be running with a squad of 5 Tzeentch marked terminators and I am looking at using Biomancy for his 2 additional spells to create a possible CC monster where needed.

My lord is a bit pricey but I haven't tested him yet so he may change;
MoK
sigil of corruption
axe of blind fury
burning brand
gift of mutation
vet of the long war (will probs only use this if in a tournament or playing marines)
180 points
I plan on running him with a unit of berserkers possibly in a land raider. I have Kharn too so he might be using the land raider with his berserkers instead. In which case my lord will be in a rhino with his berserkers.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."
