Before the FAQ prevented the use of the gun I went to work on my Tyranid Aegis Defence line and Quad Gun,

Since then I've been in touch with GW and even ended up getting the games development team to confirm that currently it's not usable by Tyranids BUT they will be considering amending the FAQ as they believe the situation is 'not ideal'. So if you're still interested in making your own and indeed the Aegis Defence Line too here are some initial pics of the bits that will constitute the gun:

I got five 50mm bases off ebay and I'll be using a plastic Bucks Fizz cork as the base for the weapon.

The weapon itself will be based on the Acid Spray gun for the Tyrannofex, handily free with my Tervigon kit.

Having curved the arm to try and match the curve on the plastic cork with my Dremmel-alike I drilled a hole to pin the gun to the cork with flower arranging wire.

I then removed the back of the arm and mounted half a Carnifex head on top of the Acid Spray gun so that it has a limited sentience that other Tyranid organism can interface with to fire the gun - you wouldn't believe how many folk think because nids don't have opposable thumbs they can't use tools, this way it's not an issue.

Next up will be an update in a few days with the Aegis, but I'll be utilising Mr_Pink's terrain posts on Warpshadow as inspiration. Meanwhile all my other hobby stuff, free .pdf building templates and freebie wound markers and battle reports are here: 40kaddict.blogspot.co.uk

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And here's the beginnings of my Aegis:

I used an actual Aegis to get roughly the same footprint then cut the tubs to fit. You can get roughly 3 single panels from each pot. Handily mine came with 18 ridges in the base so I could split it into thirds no problem. The the bit that you cut off makes a perfect join for the double panels. I used staples to hold them in place. next up Milliput.

It's cool but I thought they FAQ'd the Aegis and Quad away from Tyranids.

Looks nice so far, if 'Nids can't use it, it would make great additional terrain

Seeing a squad of veterens swoop in in a Vendetta, secure the area, deliver that math assignment, and extract within 2 minutes would be freaking sweet.

They did, but if you read the OP's opening paragraph he spoke to someone at GW about it.

Much in the same way I did with my Mycetic Spore, you can see below where around a third of my 4oz Milliput supply went.

Which eventually became this:

And some Tyranid Warrior - Hive Guard conversions manning the defences

Holy crap, this looks amazing. You're very creative. I especially love that even the pieces you had to make up with the milliput look distinctly like Tyranid chitin, which is something you don't often see with scratch built projects like this. Very fine work.

That is some lovely work there. I really like how you have applied your milliput. Your ideas are original and imaginative too.

The Mycetic spore is very good the way the tendrils trail from it making it look like it has just come down out of the sky and hit the ground.

Next lot of tidbits to intrigue and excite you - time for the quad gun to put it's LBD on to cover it's current nakedness:

Last pic has my scuttling adrenal glands looking for an symbiote host but you can read more about it, download free foamcard .pdf templates and gaming markers at the blog.

Wow... I love it!

People will be amazed how quickly you got this together if the FAQ is ever updated as I know of no one else who is building one for tyranids "just because"! My hat is off to you and it is one of the best Aegis lines I've seen, for any faction. Absolutely love it.

If you hadn't painted it, it would've been sweet to have someone make a cast of it- but then again there won't be a market unless the FAQ is changed

Cheers... well the Quad Gun is pretty easy to make with the bits and as they're GW parts it's not something I could cast anyways. However, the defence line itself is something I may look into casting. Even painted I may still give it a bash. One of the single panels is slightly too tall [but it grew that way] so I may practice making a mould off that and if it doesn't mess up the paint work I'll make moulds of two long ones and two shorts and if I decide to put them on the market I'll double them up so you still get variety while cutting down the casting materials.

Still waiting on that FAQ although I wanted to plead the case for Broodlords getting a re-roll on the psychic powers charts when they get a 'shooting' power. It's a nonsense how they FAQ'd that. So if it gets a power beyond it's mastery level or something it already learned it can re-roll but if it gets a power beyond it's shooting ability it can't. Why offer folks the fair option of rerolling in the above situations and then deny one element to do so in a slightly different but no less appropriate setting.

And don't even get me started on a Tyranid Prime's inability to join his Warrior brood in a Mycetic Spore...

You could get away with casting the gun platform, and making a cut, for people to attach their own weapon.
