Looking good!

As for Yarrick's banner I have been procrastinating over that. It'll happen soon I promise.

I keep meaning to do (or, technically, redo) the write-up for how to make such bases - think people might be interested?

I asked in my plog on here, but I suspect I'm talking to myself in there...

I think its worth the effort - I'm always interested in basing tutorials as its not my strongest skill.

Gits next commission seems to be being held up by congress and the president atm. Bloody politicians. They'd better come to an agreement soon and reopen the post offices over there.

In other news I had thought I was free and clear of skyrim addiction but then the other day I realised that I never did get to level 80 or complete the main quests. Then I heard hunting horns and nordic sounding opera singing playing in my ears and finally I couldn't take it. I'm going in for a second helping, I'll be back by spring.

Absolutely lovely Weets! Your leather is particularly beautiful! I never had any problems with finecast either. I'm glad to see someone else with good casts too.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

I'm certainly not the one to ask, I can tell the difference between lead, pewter and white metal but I'm completely at sea with resin. But even if its not finecast it's definitely a fine cast.

I suppose the point is that its a beautiful miniature and it all looks in proportion compared the the older models I'm used to. The hands are the right size!! I may have to get some of these new miniatures myself.

If you're still having trouble with Yarrick's back banner have you considered printing it out and then painting it?

Mind sharing your black mixes? It looks like theres some brown in there? Really great, and i have a limited vision when painting black cloth, so id love to hear about your approach.

Well bebop I suppose I rely a lot on P3 armour wash, which looks black but isn't really. I think it has a touch of brown in it and a touch of blue. I put it on in lots of thin layers (maybe 3-4) and I finish up with a layer of thinned down coloured wash, usually blue, just to stop the brighter areas looking too grey. Adding colour to your black has to very subtle, make sure you water it down plenty and if its too much, wipe it off and try again.

Thanks dreadclaw69, I've been trying to get around to it - I just picked up a second hand printer for free but its got no input lead. I'm sure I will find one on ebay soon.

Thanks Girrafex I do love mixing up the colours. Its what its all about!

Here is the first picture. I may go back and tweek a few things before I take more. His back needs a little work.

Someone might ask how I did the velvety red. So here it is: First I basecoated the area white (see previous WIP pic). Then I built up about 4 layers of P3 red ink until it was glossy pillar box red. Then I edged it with armour wash. Finally I mixed a green wash with a umber wash and put it on in two fairly think layers. I often find that a contrasting colour wash can really work to give subtlety. For example on the quartermaster's green trousers and helmet I used a terracotta wash.

Anyway here's the pic

That DKoK mini is Forgeworld, so their brand of resin.

If that Commissar is resin then he would be finecast.
I thought earlier pics showed he was metal?

Finecast replaced metals and well, not all are as good as Forgeworld, many FC casts had bubbles, miscasts, issues with flash, seams not set right, all symptoms of rush jobs. I will now add lasck of consistency in material consistency.

My Necrons sadly were perfect looking, the sad part was they were far too delicate at first to handle, let alone paint or use on table top. I have to be very careful as they were made from a brittle and pale colored finecast. I have seen dark colored finecast that was near perfcetion, flexible, could be dropped and bounce like rubber, yet take no damage, these were skaven Jezzails, and had my Lords of the old Dynasty been made from that same dark grey finecast material, I would not have had to replace parts with plastic bits is my beef with Finecast.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Exceptional paintjobs - the DKoK figure is a wonderful sculpt, so much detail and really crisp casting - must be a joy to paint. Love the Commisar as well, the red of his jacket lining is so rich and sumptuous, while the blue gem on his belt really pops and draws the eye... Is that NMM gold you've got going there?

Made in gb
The Hammer of Witches

cornwall UK

That is NMM gold yes, I've got the hang of that now.

shasolenzabi the commissar is metal yes.

Dysartes - I'm very motivated when it comes to painting professionally, especially when you send me such beautiful models. I used to collect models based on how old and rare they were.but now I think I will buy for quality.

I've got no commission work today so I thought I would have some fun with necromunda cawdor types. I'm thinking of doing a quartered colour scheme for these - sorta heraldic, inquisimunda, grimdark gothic, quasi medieval stuff. But what colour to pick - It will probably come to me in a flash, it usually does.
