I'm not sure about the colour scheme for this chap but I'm just messing about - I like how the autopistol and chainsword turned out.

Weety, you have an amazing style. You really capture the grimness of the figures while still being vibrant. I am incredibly jealous.

Love the quartered, court fool out fit on this latest figure.

Thanks all, welcome to my blog San76!

Hi thanks to all of you for commenting. I'm glad you like them! I'm trying to push my painting skills forward with a lot of practice pieces before the next commission arrives. Next up some 2nd ed 40k imperial priests. A very drimdark subject matter.

Here's some pics of them so far. If anyone has any thoughts on what colours they should be feel free to comment. I had a feeling I might make the younger one a redhead and try and draw freckles. But I'm not sure on the robes, maybe some freehand? All I'm certain of is I want them grim and dark and to look about 40,000 years old.

Just to clarify, weety, the one on the left is a 2nd edition model (released alongside Codex: SoB), while the other was part of an Inquusutor retinue set, though I can't remember whether he was a Daemonhunters or Witchhunters release.

I quite like the idea of a sackcloth sort of look, possibly contrasted with a marble effect on the icon of the guy who is about to go clubbing...

That's good - I love inquisitorial retinues. I think he has 'confessor' on his tab? Been a while since I saw his tab though.

I really want to push myself to the next level. I've been looking back over the whole blog and I've realized that the last year has been a big learning curve. I need to consolidate what I've learned and find new techniques to master. I've been reading some professional painters blogs, the kind of people that I aspire to be like, such as Meg Maples of privateer press arcanepaintworks.blogspot.com/‎ and ifalna of course (although sadly I will probably never work for zenimax software).
Meg says you never stop learning, and she recommends entering competitions to stay relevant and up to date. I should do that probably.
Also another key thing to improving my work is the smoothness of the miniature. I've started rubbing the models down with jewelers rouge and I have some needle files, I also need to get some 300 sandpaper. Looking back on my old work its striking to me how grainy the models are.

Anyway I better get to poundstretcher and earn my pittance, see you on the flipside!

Have you been on Platoon Britannica? AFAIK, a lot of the serious Golden Demon painters (including luminaires such as MattParkes) post on the site and there’s a board designed for different critique styles – ranging from ‘be nice’ comments to ‘hyper –critical’ http://www.platoonbritannica.com/index.php?threads/3-tier-criticism-sections-explained.63/

I love those two models Weety! especially the dude with the Chainsaw! really a lot of character modeled into mini's that era! and the way your painting style is evolving suits them perfectly, makes them even more entertaining to gaze at and most probably introduces such beauties to some of the young 'uns :-)

Cheers Nerdfest!

I've been beavering away at the priests - here is the first one. I didn't dare do freckles but I did make my first attempt at marble and also chrome NMM, I'm trying to show off on this one so I can impress them over at platoonbrittanica - they have some amazing painters and I feel inspired to try harder.

Nicely done marble Weety! at that scale it's very difficult to get an accurate representation that still looks good and you managed it! :-) the nmm is well done too but seems a little dulled in the pic?

now, it's time for me to encourage you to do the chainsaw dude! :-)

Dysartes - Nah When I had the picture up on the computer I realised that there was a weird ball of dust and fluff that was ruining the illusion of scale in the corner of the shot so I crudely edited it out. I should probably dust the light box and take the shot again, it looks silly.

Progress on chainsaw man. I think he's finished maybe.
