Hi folks, I decided to show the basing method I use for my Marines.

It's really quick, simple and totally do-able for hobbyists at any level. I can pretty much guarantee you have everything you need to make these.

Stage 1:
So...plain bases. I suppose i dont really need this step.

Stage 2:
Cut up some card into jaggedy slabs and whack them onto the bases. PVA is good. I use super-glue because I get impatient and it dries quicker.
I used card from the box my miniatures came in...so no excuses.

Stage 3:
Now go round and trim the card, so it fits the bases.

Stage 4:
Add some little piles of sand here and there.

Stage 5:
Quick black undercoat. Obviously spray is superior but with a model this simple it really doens't matter.

Stage 6:
Now to paint them. The colours are really up to you. Could be concrete, marble etc. I gave a nice dark grey over-brush, making sure to leave some black patches.

Stage 7:
A dusty dry-brush in a very light grey.

Stage 8:
Now the finishing touches. I went some flock growing in the cracks and a brown edging.

So there we go. Like I said, this isn't difficult. Anyone can do it, but it looks so much better than a grass base or no basing at all. I use it on my whole army for continuity. If you wanna spend more time on it, you can make it look even better.

Very nice. Easy on the eyes and a few alien sigils here and there can give it the appearance of an alien city about to be conquered.

Love this tutorial! Question, though - how would you apply this technique to skimmer bases? It seems the curved surface of the base would make things a bit more difficult.

Good question, I've never used it on skimmers I nusually leave them transparent. If you did want to base them I think the best way to go would be using a large 60mm base (dreadnought) and drill a hole in it for the stalk. Then you c an decorate it using this method.
