Subject: Converted screamers go-ahead?

Hey all
So, I recently converted up some screamers of tzeentch, for my chaos daemons army. I used tyranid gargoyles, dddn't add the head or the arms, and fashioned a kind of pincir-beak from the spikes on the gargoyles heads to fill the gap where the head would be. I then painted them up to look like they are a mix of flesh and flame (To the best of my ability)
What I was wondering is, do you think others will be ok with this? I know they use the same sized bases, and while I like the screamer models, I pretty much refuse to pay the same price for 3 models, as other armies get for 10 models. The screamer kit comes in 4 peices, and costs over £15 for 3, wheras models from other armies tend to come in packs of 10, with a host of options and poses, such as space marines for only £3 more, for 7 extra models. Even the gargoyles have more flexibility, for £3 more, and 7 extra models.
Sorry for the mini-rant there. I just don't understand why certain models are hugely expencive for seemingly no reason, particularly in this army
So, do people think this would be an acceptable conversion?

I'm guessing their visual profile is the same or larger than a screamer, due to being vertically oriented. As long as you aren't getting some kind of advantage from using a different model, there's no good reason to object to a conversion. Most people are appreciative of the extra creativity required to convert models rather than just using stuff straight out of the box.
You should post pics, they sound cool.

Looks a bit too nid methinks.
I wont have a problem playing against it, but it wont fly in a tournament (no pun intended), even ones that allow conversions.

Id be happy to play against them, but I think you should try and work a little more on them to make them look a little less 'nid-like' and more 'chaos-y' or 'daemon-ish'. Those are the technical terms, btw.

Any advice on ways to do that? Any tips would be welcome
I do have a few spare pink horror and daemonette arm's, could use those as flamey-fists and claw's where the original gargoyle arms would go, to give them a kind of randomly mutating feel, growing claws or elongated fingers and such.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Allright, I redesigned them a little. They now have screaming pink horror faces instead of the beaks (Though one has a tzeentch herald-horror beak face, and one has a flamer-style orb belching flame at the front)
I also uysed some spare daemonette arms to add nasty looking claws, thankfully, that can be pained to match tzeentch, as they have no slaanesh-identifying features
Ill post pictures when I have them all painted up, hope this will be an improvement. Mutated winged horrors with nasty slashing claws

Eyes... Tons of eyes. And spikes. Random pointy teeth. Anyways hello! I would certainly play against them although I agree they don't quite look Tzeentchian just yet. I look forward to seeing them after you have placed the faces on and painted them.

eye and spikes work, maybe try more more tzeentch colors on them.
if you remove the spikes from the wings and make them into a Maw where the head was, that might do the trick.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting
|
Weapons and abilities that target units on flying bases measure from the flying base. As long as your converted dude is the same height as a screamer, has the same wingspan as a screamer, and comes on the same size flying base as a screamer, then it is totally kosher.
As to the models themselves, those would work better as furies than screamers. For a screamer, to make it look less like a tyranid don't paint the wings a separate color. Make it all one swirly continuation of blues with lighter extremities. Use bright green or orange for the inner mouth to represent the melta bomb bite, and add some spikes to the tail for the whipping strafe attack.

They are much too big for furies,. wrong base size too.
Added a screaming horror face and some claw's to represent the bite. And yep, they are the same height as a screamer, I checked, but they don't have a shootinmg attack anyway so they don't have an attack to come from somewhere xD

Green stuff the carapace, fill in the gaps between the plates and the skin so it looks like one continuous skin sinew.

I think one of the best ways to make them look Tzeentchy would be to visually diversify them. There are a lot of good suggestions here, and I'd recommend using different ones on each model. I particularly like the idea of green-stuffing the carapace into a smoother body.

Some flames or a few mutations might help complete the models, I think they look good and dont see them being a problem to play against.

Think i'm going to keep the back's, I like it, purely because it makes them look like tzeentchian flying lobsters, with that shell and those claws ^^

i like the backs too!!!
for a painting critique that will help them pop is if you can get some of the blue as highlights or at the tip of the claws like glowy magical death.
tzeentch always stuck at to me with the pink and blue as its very contrasting and pops well!!

No complaint's here. Nid's look like murder made flesh, and tzeentch clearly dig's their style. Flying death lobsters for over £40 less than flying death manta-rays, is fine in my book
Thanks all for the tips, advice, and compliment's. Highlighting has never been a skill i've been much good at, but I like the idea of the blue claw-tips. Might give that a whirl, and see if I can't add a little more blue detailing, the only bit I have right now is the blue gem on the top of the bird one's head.
