The only thing you save is time. I just cannot grasp the reasoning for putting this up as a one day only thing. Makes no sense at all.

No savings, just like every other bundle GW have done recently.

I'm curious how the limited time thing works though, who has that kind of money to throw at half an army on 24 hours notice?

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I think this is targeted at impulse buyers who believe they are making a saving (much like those supermarket offer tags that actually have no savings at all). A bit dishonest really but, as they say, Caveat Emptor

What I want to know is...

Since they keep doing this, does this mean there are people actually buying these...? ...Why?

These 1-click bundles do a pretty good job of showing what the actual cost of an army from GW is these days.

Around £500 or so for a 1500 point 40k army, after you include the books and some paints/glue. Completely mad.

Even if you buy off a discount webstore, the pricing is still insane.

The same lot priced up using DarkSphere.co.uk comes in just a shade over £300 - over a £100 saving. Why would you pay GW direct prices? Ever? You'd be mad to. However, that doesn't rule out GW FUD (ooo, not sure I trust x to deliver by y, better order it from GW just to safe. Also bizarrely Finecast issues play into this - what if I have a problem - better order from GW just to be safe), impulse purchase based on ignorance (my supermarket label example above) or lack of knowledge of what's out there (something GW really really wants to preserve to prevent people shopping for cheaper and discovering alternatives).

Friends don't let friends buy from GW direct. I cannot fathom why ANYONE orders from their website (US customers). Every person in the USA has access to a discount retailer online..

You can take a Wraithknight as a HQ choice with the Iyaden supplement.

Still not paying GW's price. Even with 20% discount prices are now too high.

It really is eye opening how expensive a playable army is when they bundle the price together. It may actually be counter productive to sell as bundles.

What's disgusting that that GW is selling the piss out of those Spiritseer's, but I'm still waiting on a *replacement from launch day.

*Original purchase was missing its head.

I swear, everyone gives credit to GW's customer service, but my last several experiences have been pants.

I'm not sure if GW even plays their own game... or at least not by RAW.

Playing: Droids (Legion), Starks (ASOIAF), BB2
Working on: Starks (ASOIAF), Twilight Kin (KoW). Droids (Legion)

It's also about 2010 points from the last thread about this.

Also anyone notice how much more expensive it is in Canada now?
Aus is $798, which includes tax
Can with stronger $, sees $812 ($911~ with tax).

^ They probably sell loads, GW customers are largely price-insensitive, and the company is still posting excellent profits.

Tbh, I have no idea either BESIDES the web-exclusive things. And the only time I ordered something never reached me. Service was good for me tho, after sending them a mail they payed me back right away.

I received an email from Games Workshop with the following subject:

Games-workshop.com exclusive! Open me to find out more.

I opened it to be informed of the 1 click offer (just the picture and some legal text).

I feel so insulted that they should market it to me in such a way.

Don't think it is reserved to Games Workshop customers.

Mantic Games' 8-Miniature DreadBall teams RRP for GBP 15,- are a fair bit more expensive per miniatures than comparable GW products, such as 10 Wyches, etc.. Utterly options-free, no bitz or anything... and people still lap up Mantic's spin for being the "budget alternative".

Advertising and reality don't need to match.

And they aren't even doing the "supermarket deal" right, at least those "deals" give you the illusion of saving 5p when you're likely saving 1p or none!

@Zweischneid

Don't know much about Dreadball, but can you play with 8 mini's in that game? Because 10 wyches is barely a list for DE, throw in 2 more venoms and an HQ, and you'd still struggle to play a 500pts game... I believe that's what the "budget alternative" means.

Doesn't change the fact that the DreadBall miniatures are more expensive.

What if I buy a box of Wyches to convert a DreadBall team? Should I give the guy in the GW-store twice of what he asks, because I need less? What if I tell him in only ever play Apocalpyse games of 5.000 points minimum? Would I get all GW-minis at 50% off, because I need so many more of them? And what about people buying minis mainly for painting?

And what if I invent a game that only needs one miniature per player? Could I sell a single 28mm piece of restic for GBP 100,- each, It'll be all you need... I promise!

No, but I think they're trying to tap the same mentality. Compare: "Ooo, only 24 hours, this has to be good value" to "Ooo, it's on offer". Though one will cost you the full price 23p for a tin of beans while the other will cost you £407 for a load of plastic that should, plucking a random number out of the air, probably be considered pricey at £150.

I'm not a fan of the 1-click thingies.

However, they wouldn't do them if people didn't buy them. Parents? People wanting to get back into the hobby?

Dunno.

I don't think you quite understand... But this kinda price comparisons have been done to death, judging by your post count, you've probably seen plenty, so I'm not gonna bother repeating the whole "you need a codex, rulebook, models, etc to play a game" stuff. So if you're happy that the entry cost for a 500pt DE army is about £100+, and you think that is cheaper than just paying £15 and may be a tenner for the rulebook for Dreadball, hell, I'll give it that you need £40ish to have a functional team if 1 of those special characters is needed, that is fine by me.

My point is that it isn't about cost per miniature, but the total cost it takes to have a game running.
