Hey everyone,

This is my first time posting a model to DakkaDakka. It's an Ariadna WarCor that I painted for the Infinity Painting Challenge. It's based off the Dozer with akrylat kanone. I converted the kanone to look like a camera (well, hopefully it looks like a camera). For the base I tried to make it look like a dud artillery shell had landed in front of her to go with the theme of the dangerous terrain of paradiso. I added some freehand to her helmet ('Press' on the front, the 'N' from the Infinity word-art on the back) and a little heart tattoo on her abdomen.

It didn't do very well in the contest so I'd be interested to hear what people didn't like about it. Thanks for any feedback you can give me!

Mate, I don't know what feedback to give you. If this didn't do very well in the contest, I'd love to see the winner. This is great work. Really well done.

Yeah I think yours should have placed far higher. It's very well-painted and has an engaging base. You should post some more Infinity stuff here!

I definitely voted for yours - and that was before I zoomed in in the gallery! I was very surprised you didn't do much better - I would have placed yours and #3 as top five contenders - for what that is worth (I had my own issues )

Agree with Arakasi: your entry and number 3 are the better ones in terms of paintjob and presentation.

Your painting is very nice but for me I just don't like the model and didnt think it fit the theme well so I didn't vote for it.

I voted for you. In terms of technical execution, this one was one of the top three miniatures. Outstanding paint job, and colours work together. I really would like to have that level of painting one day.

Having said that, and I think everyone agrees so far, it needs to be stated that the miniature utterly lacks INTEREST.

The miniature is very static, so in order to get some life into it, you could have either used crazy colours (which would not necessarily have fitted the theme), or your base would have had to be very dynamic, full of growth/angles that can contrast with the static mini.

I am pretty sure if you had had a base more like junex (well actually, something a bit more dynamic/ with more angles) you would have easily made top 3 with it.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

The only real downside I'm hearing so far is the base, which I can understand. I am getting some mixed messages on this though as people both here on dakka and elsewhere have specifically praised the base. Judging from the voting though more people were in the dislike camp. Bases have never been something that I push too hard, as I prefer to spend my time on the mini. This may have to change in the future.

In terms of interest I attempted to add some with the freehand, but that doesn't seem to have been enough.

I'm gonna be honest, the 1st place winner wasn't...worthy of 1st place. The base looked good, and so did the scene, but overall paint job wasn't as amazing as it should be. I think that you should have placed Top 5 because you have very nice and realistic blends. The only flaw I see is the undetonated shell in front of her is too center. If it were placed off to the side it would have fit in better. Also, just something to think about, since you were going for a war torn area theme, add some dirt, maybe a cut, or burn, just something to add to scene you know?

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

It is very well painted but the model itself is just very passive and the base doesn't make up for it - because the model is so dull I think you needed a really explosive base to bring in some interest to the whole piece.

More than many other models in the contest or indeed the Infinity range, I think you needed to tell a story with the base for why the model is there - if that makes sense... A soldier can always be posed as being "in action" but a reporter needs something to report on.

Edit: I also had no idea that was an unexploded shell - so perhaps ignore some of my previous comment...
