WotC has the star wars license pretty much locked up, I think...
Indeed, this Star Wars licence is owned by Wizards of the Coast, who in turn are owned by Hasbro, who also have the licence to do most Star Wars toys, and finally George Lucas owns a number of shares in Hasbro, 10% or so I believe. This is why I believe that the rights to produce the card game were taken away from Decipher and awarded to Wizards of the Coast but would rather indicate that GW will *not* be getting a Star Wars licence.

Property-wise, perhaps GW could do a licensed game called "Time Lord".
Then they could rehash the old Dalek mini from ages ago!

Just me here, but I'm leaning to this board game as being the alleged mystery box. But who really knows outside of the supposed GW Triumverate.
GW has done board games before - but doesnt do much to support its specialist games (not allowing them in stores that are not 'battle bunkers').
FFG on the other hand likes to put out supplements/expansions to its boardgames. Look at Descent. Two expansions when I last checked with a large assortment of 'hero cards' (like character sheets) and correlating mini.
A game board that can be modified with stairwell tiles and terrain tiles etc...
Tie this in with their existing DH line and put it out in all those mall based non-wargaming game stores at the mall... it's the new GW gateway drug - if it works.
As for me, I have some of the DH books, but havnt invested much time in reading them. I also have the Descent game, and I enjoy that.
If this mystery box is this FFG game, I'll be happy. If its not, I won't be mad.
And no, I don't believe this will be a resurrection of Squats/Demiurg/Space Dwarves whatever... I think too many here are reading too much into someone elses speculative reasoning or hopeful delusion.
And seriously, I doubt it's Space Hulk... Even though that was my gateway drug into 40k, as I'm sure it was for many.
Could anyone check for info on FFG site? I unfortunately can't see their page as I'm on a gov network... and they think I should think about work and not gaming. (I have no clue how they havn't blocked this).

Fantasy Flight are a US company, yes?
Are printing costs in the US cheaper than the UK? I ask because GW has had a problem for many years when it comes to doing card-stock and things like that (it's the reason things like the Necromunda and Mordheim games went away, and all the various cards in the core games as well).
If FFG is in the US and the US doesn't have the same problems, then we could be seeing a lot of card-based games from them using the GW lisence simply because GW couldn't afford to produce them themselves.
Personally though I now want it to be some sort of "Dark Heresy - Skirmish" style game, a bit I-Munda-ish its construction, with ways of tying it into Dark Heresy proper (and not a replacement).

Thats sort of what I'm hoping for... though when you have a whole card for a weapon like an autopistol; it doesn't comfort me into thinking that things will 'flow'.
As for printing. I wonder why GW does not have it done in the states - they make some of their miniatures here. IIRC they have a factory in TN. Not something I've seen them advertise, but they mentioned it at an assessment function I once attended.
But thinking further on that; printing in the states might take them outside their 'laddered' structure that helps them keep their costs down.
'Why pay someone else when we can pay ourselves'.
(That just sounds greedy, but it's good business sense).

i believe they're on their 5th expansion. all of them (including the starter) are very high quality and include lots of goodies. when i first say the prices, i balked but then my friend (and Descent GM) opened up his copies to show me just how much you get.

Or China, for crying out loud. They print their books there - I can't imagine cardstock would be much more expensive over there.
I am perfectly willing to be proven wrong by anyone who knows the prices of card-stock printing and the like. I don't think there's any question of FFG's quality or that they'd be ripping anyone off - I think most of us so far, myself included, have been very impressed by the production values of everything they've put out (odd exception - the black & white pamphlet that came with the DH GM shield). And I'm sure this new Fantasy RPG will be another high quality production with a hell of a lot of stuff in the box (in fact, having seen photos of its contents, you appear to get HEAPS in there).
We're just concerned about the direction its taking. It all seems very sudden. One moment we have the Fantasy RPG and then BANG - CARD GAME!!!!!! This is especially worrying for DH players who don't want to see their game revamped after such a short time and turned into something else that requires more material.

Didn't they (FFG) just make a big deal about taking DH 'outside the Empire'.
I interpreted this as an expansion of their current line of DH, and people have linked to the demo material related to some of this upcoming line. So I in no way think that this board game will be a replacement for the current DH line.
I would however highly doubt that the miniatures contained within are to scale with the current GW line, or the earlier ][nquisitor 54mm line.
Still, want to play this game...

If its not space hulk or bloodbowl I will be slightly unhappy, but only due to personal preference.
I'll buy it as long is it is not a tabletop game, or bloody star wars or more lotr stuff, not my cuppa chi. Boardgames from GW are just fantastic though. Love em! Viva BB!!
I think that dark heresy photo is some kind of fake, the sprue and the model look different shades of grey, and the sprue looks punched, as mentioned before, which does not make sense to me.
Here's hoping it's hulk, with a limited ed of plastic scenery (which would just kick ass)

The plastic scenery rumor is what makes me think it's not Space Hulk... Besides lots of corridor walls (which would make the game a bit of a fuss to play), what is there to make scenery for in that game?
I'm thinking it's a new boardgame. Possibly some kinda new Kill Team rules in a box set, or some other novel way to use our 40k minis...

One note about the picture... someone asked if those are 25mm bases - the one squat toward the center appears to be on a slotted base. So here's to hoping.

The mystery box is just that: a mystery.
You will get one box that has been sealed shut. Inside something makes occasional noises. What is it? $70 you will find out....
...find out you bought a $70 plastic box filled with five mexican jumping beans.
At least the box will have an embossed Imperial Logo on it. Lucky you!

The Bugman's Game was already advertised in White Dwarf and is only available at the eponymous pub. The Mystery Box is NOT the Bugman's Game.

So what you're saying is that the mystery box contains a note saying that it's not the Bugman's game?
So, in other words, this is an elaborate advertisment for Warhammer World and Bugman's Beer. Clever strategy...

Okay, let's make this simpler. The "Mystery Box" is so named because it's supposedly a mystery. The Bugman's Game is not a mystery, it was already advertised in White Dwarf magazine with pictures. This, therefore, makes it unlikely to be the "Mystery Box" to be unveiled for the first time in Germany this coming Saturday.
