May be GW are giving up doing gaming stuff? It would link 'dropping a bomb', 'never been done before', 'not linked to any army', 'limited print run' and they def would not want the staff to know before the announcement! On the other hand they could be releasing something at a price that relates to how much it really costs to produce rather than at a hyper inflated price, again covers all the above...

Guys what came out last year at this time? It was 5th ed 40k
GW will have to match those numbers with a great release, a possible one-shot release...
So you have to ask yourself, Are they redoing "Fantasy" or "LoTR/WoTR"? The answer is no. So what can compete against those numbers of dollars made and units sold? It has to be big and encourage the masses to drop money to match if not exceed the last years release...
PS Remember that the last 3 years have seen new starters released in August/September...

Kinghammer- or more likely they haven't got anything they think will shift like 40k last year and Apocalypse the year before so they are trying a new marketing idea hoping it will generate interest and help shift something of a lesser game/supplement...
Another thought occurs to me as well, if its a board game and going to be 'limited edition' could that mean after the intial run it will be handed over to FFG as Dark Heresy was? So you will still be able to get it but with FFG stamped on it rather than GW. This could also link it to the Dark Heresy photo...

That only happen with Dark Heresy because GW didn't think an RPG's development made a big enough return. The books cost $50+ but for it to have been viable GW needed to make $80+. So they sold the licensing rights to FFG. The idea of GW handing anything over to FFG is unlikely. The only way FFG will take another GW proprty is if A) they are sharing the development costs for the new game, B) FFG is paying GW to develop a new game, C) GW develops the new game and determines it to be not viable, but offers a license to FFG and FFG buys it.

Interestingly FFG are releasing the Rogue Trader RPG at Gen Con, so would they also do another major release at the same time?

But what if FFG are the games developers under licence from GW? This could explain the 'only three people in GW know what it is' rumour and to stop FFG l etting the cat out of the bag they are told they will have the licence pulled if they reveal it. This way GW gets all this hype and interest, they release what ever it is as a 'limited edition/run', which it is for them, then let FFG release their edition of it after. Its a win, win situation for both companies...

Well, If we are looking for clues I may have found something rahter interesting, not sure if it has been said before and I'm just being slow , buw here it comes.
There has been word about these new Geedubya T-shirts, with "everything you have been told is a lie" on them, Now I was looking through the specialist games today, and was looking through the rule book for Inquisitor, and on one of the first few pages the exact same quote is there.
Now my guess would be these t-shirts may be pointing towards Inquistor, or something related to the Inquisition ? It's a possibility.

You're actually about the 10,000th person to spot and point this out.
No.
The T shirts are purely to get people onto and registering on the GW site... just like the swanky competition which involves... being registered on the website.

Well then the likelyhood of someones testicles being spared I think are good. I really doubt its LotR.
Random thought: Not that anyone would want it, but I wonder if GW has considered releasing a miniature line for some other movie franchise (possibly scifi) to mirror what they've done with LotR...

Like, say, Starship Troopers? That should be a dirt cheap license to acquire.
Although Aliens vs Predator would be OK.
Star Wars would probably bankrupt the company.

This misery box had better be something so special
that any GW fan will want to buy it up. If it turns out
to be something lack luster it will leave a sour taste
in the consumer base that's for sure. This "keep it a
secret" stand GW is taking can backfire-bad.
I sure do hope it's something I'm interested in and if so
something I can get my hands on.

I am sure they will probably decide what it is they are putting in the boxes a couple of days before they have to send them out to the stores.
"Damn it! We have already used up all the post-it notes from accounting! Quick - someone go and see if any of the bathrooms still have toilet paper left... and someone start chopping up the tables from marketing into pieces small enough to fit in some more of these damn boxes!"

I don't know, but I'm sure GW's designers are smart enough to figure out a rule for that, and then follow it up with a faq for each pog.

I suppose after 18 pages nothing can really be expected to stay on topic.
And, the 16th isn't so far away now...
I'm leaning more towards the FFG/GW Dark Heresy Board Game thing now.
Either that, or Space Hulk with limited edition models and/or terrain. Which won't be in the box later, thereby "justifying" the limited edition label...
