Great progress BH, Personally I kinda liked the long neck but its still looks great. Thank you for the Greyhound image I was trying to think why the form looked familiar .

I love the 'greyhound on steroids' look. It makes him look skeletal, and sick.

Personaly I think the Bone'ead looks great so far just add the other arm and widen the lower torso in the left right direction and he is done.

Man those are beautiful Blackhand. Wow! I suspect this blog will inspire many skaven 40k armies... just hope everyone's as good a sculptor as you are!

OH-I Wanna get out of here

I am massively impressed with how good that is. Is the V-lord on a 40mm base? I thought he was getting a 60.

It already has, and on top of that Blackhand has been a brilliant assist/helper when it came to ideas on casting and other tips/tuts. There's no way my Skaven 40k horde would never have been more than a snazzy flyer and pipe dreams otherwise.

That Bonehead is coming along really well now, it looks much better with the shortened neck, scale is good he's about the size of my Mega rats which really gives him that cut from a stonger jib look and the gun merged into his arm connects him to the unit as a point of reference/similarity. Question though will it be hairy and skin on or as it's a bone head and seems to be well dead will you be doing flesh off and muscles ridging/bands with chunks of clinging flesh etc?

Thanks for the comments guys!

As for the VerminLord he will eventually be given a wider base with broken masonry and the like on it, I want to make sure I have gotten every last piece of sculpting and modelling done on him before I start the decorative base, plus once I get the castle molds I will be able to create much better broken srone.

@santobell - I am planning on have patches of skin missing and stitches holding skin togther, Im not a big fan of my fur sculpting skills. I think you would agree it's not the easiest to sculpt!

The angle of the head does look better now, and losing that extra vertebrae hasn't lost the sleek look Arm looks great, but yeah, he does look a little greyhoundish, just don't bulk him up too much. Keep the good work flowing.

They look great together, Perhaps the Vlord could be smashing his foot through a bit of masonry (might be a bit tricky now that he is all finished). Oh and I love the greyhound look of the bone head, it makes him stand out from the other rats.

I was a little skeptical about how skinny the bonehead was looking, but lined up with the others I reckon you've really pulled it off! He looks lithe and fast - the kind of bad guy who would be up in your face by the time you've raised a rifle

The big one looks surprisingly unsettling too - I think it's the big empty eye sockets or something, but it really is creepy to look at. Which is the plan, right? Good job!

Fur sculpting is a right pain in the @*%$ I found a really good video tut on it on you-tube though which helped me sculpt my Mega rat's fur http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/142751-Rat%20Orge%2002.html

the biggest issue I had was my modeling tools where a bit to big so I sharpened a hook of pinning wire to do it.

@young_logan - Thanks!

@monkeytroll - I will try to keep to the original "lithe and fast" plan but I'm just not quite happy yet..promise not to screw him up!

@commander Cain - I am thinking of smoking rifts all through the base around him, kinda like he has just stepped fromt he abyss or is cracking the ground he is walking on...just an idea at this point.

@Scarper - Creepy is indeed the look I was going for, I feel the normal VerminLord model is far too cartooney..hell the whole old skaven range was not utilizing the creepy mythology the Skaven have. I happened to use my devoutly christian fiance as a guage of whether I was getting the Verminlord right.. The more she told me to stop making a model of the devil ,the closer I was getting to the look I wanted

@santobell - thanks man I will watch the vid when I get home , the damn work computer won't show it :(

@Sennacherib - If you have any questions feel free to PM but as I have told others, practice ids the only way to go.. glad you enjoy my stuff though!

Cheers

I know, why does work have to hog their bandwidth for "emails" and "business" how selfish!

Ok so I would post up some pics and updates, buuuuuut.....

...I'm too busy casting!

of course I am not sure I had the right ratios...and I made waay too much plaster ....but I'm giving it a go and I hope to have some ruins for you tomorrow night

First off, Holy Crap 30,000 views! I don't know if any body else follows this kind of thing with their blogs but I do..and thanks for reading!

Second, I've had a bunch of fun casting slabs of stone! I've learnt a few things along the way....

1 - Plaster of paris cures waaay longer than SuperCal3...but is a quarter of the price.

2 - Its far better to mix too little plaster than two much.

3 - I'm only going to be able to use a fraction of the 10+ molds my friend has lent me...but I still cast random bits cause its cool.

and 4 - I am going to be casting a long, long looooong time.

Here are some pics of where I have got so far...

A desk full of itty, bitty pieces of plaster, joy!

BH are you stealing ideas from pixar? Are you going to be adding hundreds of tiny little resin balloons to make a grim dark version of UP?

Looking great, are you taking masters and then sending the moulds back to your buddy? It could be an idea.

Whoah this is awesome!!! How did you achieve the slabs? I guess you have a mould, but I don't remember reading something close to this...

Also, you could have a quick look at previews of the future video game "Bioshock: Infinite", the setting is on flying cities in a somewhat steampunk era... Not as dirty as the usual Skaven background, but I'm pretty sure you could find a few nice ideas...
