Does not compute.

Really? Are you serious, or is my sarcasm meter just broken? I think he explained it rather precisely, but I'll give it a shot too.

You quoted almost three dozen people (yourself included) who, at the moment of first sight, wanted to drop the ~$100 without further question. If the first time you had seen those pics was right next to the "Pre-Order" button on the GW website, GW would have their three grand in pocket instantly. Instead, the pre-order doesn't go up until next Saturday, but you've seen the pics now.

If even one of those people changes his mind between now and Saturday, then GW has lost money. That means "showing things at the last minute" makes more money than "showing things early". When you're a corporation, and you find out that X makes more money, then that is what you are supposed to do.

They have confirmed this with their own sales figures. They printed an official statement of exactly that in their annual financial report, which means unless you believe they have committed the actual crime of defrauding investors (as opposed to merely figuratively robbing us blind), then you have to accept it as fact. You don't have to like it - I'm sure none of us do. But, unfortunately, they are right on this one.

So, I'm sorry, but... you're wrong.

- H8

Hey, I can do anecdotal evidence and hypothetical situations too!

Bobby plays 40k, and is interested in either DA or Chaos. But he doesn't have a clue when anything is coming out, because, let's face it, GW hasn't got the best track record when it comes to telling people anything.
So Bobby, not knowing that the shiny new starter set is coming out, uses the money that would have been put to that to buy something else instead. A few weeks later, when the set is released, Bobby's already spent the money he would have put aside for the starter set, and doesn't buy it.

Looks like GW lost some money right there.

Bobby still wants the starter set, saves his money and buys it a few weeks/months later, gw still records that as a profit for the year.

I agree, however; most of the people giving out the contents of the box are more than reliable.

Also, 1 CSM Lord, 6 Chosen, 20 Cultists, and that Hellbrute vs. Company Master, Libby, and 20 Tacs doesn't seem to fit the GW plan of Marines always winning the starter box games.

Supposed to have Bikes and Deathwing as well.

That was his point. I said that they may not be coming, despite the rumors.

Hellbrute is indeed pretty awesome. Cultists are for the most part pretty cool, but suffer from duplication. Grr...

The quote in the OP implied that someone had seen them, so colour me confuzzled.

I somehow doubt that.

Traditionally, starter sets have had at least one example of specific unit types.

Bikes and Terminators would fit that last bit.

Plus, it is Dark Angels. I HIGHLY doubt GW would avoid everything that makes the DA unique in a box glorifying the Dark Angels. Ravenwing and Deathwing are as apart of the Dark Angels as the color green and robes.

Is it just me or is the cultist in the bottom row, second from the left, just a rework of the pilot from the 4th ed starter set.

At the risk of sounding spoiled and picky.... If CSM goes up for Preorder Sept 8, shouldn't there be pics in the WD? Or rules?

Those chosen look the absolute bees knees.

Yeah this is going to be hard to resist but at that price not that hard.

The chaplain too looks great.

But no, wouldn't blame anyone for getting it though.

More likely, the "updated" rules would be present in a campaign booklet for the starter box.

You have a slight point, though several sword wielding power armoured figures have a similar stance.

As a side note those DA have sculpted on details!!!!! That I just would not have though GW would do tbh.

Good on them though, they do look better for it, and I suppose if it makes them more distinct from vanilla, if only from a visual perspective, that is good.

Might put off vanilla players though but I suppose if people want to expand their SM forces better to buy the battle force anyway. After all who doesn't have 10 million SMs lying around.

+1 to GW for taking the higher risk approach but one that actually makes more sense.
