3 Heros for one side? Seems slightly excessive.

Limited edition? WTF?
My thoughts exactly. Maybe it's a finecast addition, like how some of ye olde third edition starters had a metal Force Commander to go with the Marines.
If it is a finecast model one would better bloody hope they make sure its not riddled with the usualy maladies (i doubt though that it would get any extra QA). If it is however a spec ed plastic model that would be boss as.
Heres hoping eh?

Part of me thinks this is good, another part of me doesn't particularly want to buy it just to get a few usable models. As much as I like new stuff, I don't really need more tac marines or chosen, no matter how good they are. The final part of me suspects this box set will be priced in the order of £75 and if so, that's too rich for me, considering the AOBR one was £40 when it came out and that wasn't that long ago.

Strictly speaking, aren't all of the contents of the starter box limited edition?

Now that the Assault on Black Reach isn't for sale, where will you find the plastic DeffKoptas, Space Marine Captain, Dreadnought, and Warboss that was in AoBR (other than existing kits still floating around)?

If the limited edition thing is true I am guessing it means that the other stuff will be available separately. And that would be interesting!

Well since I already agreed to go halves with a friend (on 2 boxes) it's nice to see what I will be getting for my money! I do hope the Hellbrute is a MC and not a walker.... Looks like I will be having a cultist horde! I'll just link them up with some traitor guard allies! Hordes of Chaos here I come!

I mentioned that in the CSM thread. I *hope* they look like some of the Necromunda stuff, Cawdor makes good Cultists.

As for the "LE Chaplain" I'm doubting very much it will be Finecast and it's LE is due to the fact that it's "only available in the starter box" and wouldn't read too much more into it than that.

One would think that Finecast is not something GW wants their "Starter" set to contain. I call upon the powers of Little Timmy using this as his entry into the hobby. Finecast Character model is not the best starting point. Again, Limited Edition most likely refers to the fact the model is only obtained by purchasing the Starter Box.

The level of creation and detail GW has displayed in plastic (Space Hulk minis) should allow for some very nice minis in a Starter Box made from plastic. No need to use Finecast and it would only increase the amount of returns, loss of future sales due to possible quality issues, etc... Why would they take the chance?

This sounds awesome. Here's hoping that this along with a new DA dex will finally allow for viable greenwing along with Death and Ravenwings. Contents sound good but I think GW will charge a bit too much but starter sets have been good for the price in the past so I have *hope* (read as "what little fanboy is left in me")

Man, I was really hoping for some robed terminators and marines to really make the units stand out from the rest. Oh well. Will have to see how dynamic the terminators look to decide if I want to buy this box or not.

I wonder if the Chaplain is what makes the special/limited edition 40k box set stand out? Previous rumors said only 5000 were being made?

Just given his description it almost sounds like the box is worth buying for that mini alone.

With a living and coherent pilot, this might be how GW intends to "fix" the Chaos Dread....

I'm thinking of it more as a super-terminator, than a dreadnaught-lite. The 2+ save and probably high toughness and multiple wounds for being large will be much better than a dreadnaught with even lower armor values than a dreadnaught. Considering the two army lists in the box set, I doubt they intend the hellbrute to be one-shot at the begin of the game, leaving only cultists on the chaos side

I really want to see how the terminators look especially the sergeant with the wings I hope it looks epic if so would find a way to buy a bunch just to convert to BA terminators.

Limited edition? WTF?
There was previously rumored to be two versions of the 6th ed. starter box... one of which was supposed to be limited edition. I can see this being part of that... GW will probably also do some little things like different colored dice or maybe the fancy templates, like they did with the bundled Rulebook, carry bag, dice, etc kit.

Strictly speaking no... if its being advertsized as "limited edition" legally they're required to have a pre-established number or pre-established duration of availablility, though they aren't required to disclose what they are. If a company asserts something is limited edition, but don't follow that besides the liability of false advertisement they're opened up to a lawsuit for the diminished value above and beyond what was necessarily paid.

So, if they run out of the limited edition dude, but then they find that more people are buying the starter sets than originally planned so they make another production run, they cannot included the LE figure?

Correct, but there were rumors of a limited version of the starter set already. I guess this guy's part of it.

There are shennanigans they can play if they really wanted to reissue the miniature... such as "substantially altering it" by resculpting it even a little, or including extra pieces, or issuing it in metal or plastic instead of fincast.

It's going to be dreadnought-like because they need a vehicle in the set to show off the vehicle rules. Even if it does get popped early it allows new players to see how shooting interacts with armour, the difference in glancing and penatrating hits, how hull points work, and the pen chart.

If I remember correctly they did this with the 3rd Edition box set. The first however-many came with the metal commander(which I got) and then when those ran out they simply continued making sets without that figure. The only thing on the outside of the box to distinguish it was a star-shaped sticker with the figure on it for the first sets.

well since I have sworn off buying finecast this poses a bit of a delema. If the starter box does include one model in finecast I guess I will be forced to buy it and then destroy the model. I think I will burn it in a small sacrificial bowl. Perhaps this will gain favor for the rest of the worthy models!!!

Just forgot what I was going to say.

Although I have no interest in 40k rules, looks like Ill be getting the box simply for the minis...from both sides. Keeping the Chosen, Hellbrute, & lord from Chaos, and the Termies and characters from DA. Ill be Ebaying the troops.

It would be interesting to see how much Dark Angels iconography is sculpted onto the Space marines. Because if there's not much, then this sounds like it'll be a pretty expensive starter set, but at the same time be an inexpensive way to buy an entire army, by using the Dark Angels marines, terminators, and bikers as Chaos.

Then you'd have a force of:

-Lord
-Librarian as Sorcerer
-Choice of other two DA figures to be HQ characters
-Chosen
-Two units of Cultists
-a unit of Space marines
-a unit of Ternimators
-The Hellbrute
-Biker Squad

That's far better than a battleforce, although I'll almost guarantee than it'll be somewhere in the $100-$125 range with GW's prices lately.

[...]Genstealer Cultists are in!

That’s right all you Genstealer Cult players… I refused point blank to believe that GW would ever release Genstealer Cultist, but they have. The Dark Vengeance boxed set (did I not mention the name previously?) will have 2 units of 10 Genstealer Cultist models, one armed with auto-guns (with a shotgun & CC weapon for the leader and a Heavy Stubber support trooper) and one with auto-pistol & CC weapon (with 2 CC weapons for the leader and a Flamer support model).

The Genstealer Cultist look like everything you’ve ever wanted for Cultists. They’re bound in rags, with metal half-masks and weapons that suit the cobbled-together, improvised look that you expect from the dregs of a Genstealer Cult.

While I really like the idea of the Hellbrute for Chaos, as it's something that makes Chaos more than just spiky marines, I am kinda bummed at no update to the Dreadnought, as that figure is slightly old, lol.
