When you table your opponent? When you're 5VP's ahead? When you're 10 ahead? When you hold double the number of objectives?

I'm planning a campaign and need to see if I can come up with a reasonable threshold to determine when a loss turns into a real beating. Most if the time we'll just be using the 6 main rule book mission, so in your experience, when does a win become a big win?

Actually I consider a major victory if a solid chunk of my forces survive and my opponent forces are scattered to the four winds or rendered a non issue.

If you're planning a campaign I would combine your ideas to have three types of win for a normal/close win, a big win and tabling. Off the top of my head, something like:

Total victory - opponent has no units left at the end of the game.
Major victory - winning player has at least twice as many VP as the opponent.
Victory - winning player has less than twice as many VP as the opponent.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

I like that, I was thinking double might be a good idea, but I was worried it wouldn't work for the relic mission. It would mean you'd get a major victory all the time if you just managed to hold the objective.

True, holding the Relic would put you at an advantage., but remember it's worth 3 VP and the game type still uses Slay the Warlord, First Blood and Linebreaker. So if one player scored a couple of Secondary Objectives then forced the other player to drop the Relic on the last turn they could still sneak a win, a draw or at the very least a minor victory.

My suggestion would be to try playing a couple of games using whatever system you prefer to see if it works.

A win becomes a big win when you bottle your opponents tears to later water down your paints.

When you jump on top of the table thrusting your crotch into your opponent’s face while singing "We are the champions" by Queen you have achieved a big win.
