Did they just release $3 sheet on how to use a god damn riptide??????

Wow, seriously? Why would anyone buy this?? I'm so confused...

I am so tempted to 'obtain' it just to see how bad it is, but I did that with Twilight too and where did that get me? Scared for life by so-called 'literature'.

Actually its more stupid than you think. Its a new set of units that any ally can take. You have to take a minimum of 6 broadsides and a riptide. Around 650 to 700 points base.

what you get for that though, is a unit that pays absolutely no extra points for these upgrades

tankhunters on everyone
preferred enemy space marines
oh and space marines get hatred against this detatchment, oh noes!

Its total bullcrap and basically anyone already playing tau who actually uses broadsides can get tankhunters for 2 sets of broadsides and a riptide absolutely free. Its like 3 free buffmanders when hunting tanks.

Is this one of those new formations people were talking about? If so, I should just burn my Leman Russ tanks here and now to save Tau players the trouble.

It is interesting that what used to be released in a White Dwarf mag is now "micro-transactions".

If you resist the tiny "fluff" tactica articles then the "Death from the skies" type publications you cannot ignore if you want to play.

I am more looking forward to seeing the occasional Baneblade staring at me from across the table never mind a Riptide (that is bad enough though!).

Actually, if you look at the new release today, it's a "tactica" for a single Riptide. That's is super duper silly...

is it just me or didnt this stuff all used to be free in the "articles" section of each army? now not only has GW removed them completly, hey have the balls to charge us 3-5$ each for them.

but yea, theyused to have modelling guides and tutorials, taticas, getting started stuff, painting suggestions... all kinds of neat things, all gone in favor of pay to play DLC... im thinking EA games has somehow taken over GW. that must be it....

It's a little more than that, really. DarthSpader's got a point. There used to be a ton of articles, guides, background, all that good stuff, just sitting up on the GW website to read and suck people into the hobby/get those creative gears going. I can't seem to find half of it any more - they took it down a while back, which is something I always saw as nothing more than pointless reorganizing.

Looks like I might have been wrong...

i remember those articles, they were rubbish. I didn't miss them in the slightest when they dissapeared.

Honestly Google has been a better source of hobby stuff than the GW site for a few years now, and all their painting articles used colors that don't exist anymore (quite literally in some cases, the exact shades of some equivalents are pretty far off now. It's why my Sisters are no longer getting painted to be wearing "bone" colored armor). Seriously we're at the point not complaining that GW is selling stuff we've been getting everywhere else for free is like complaining that bottled water costs money when you have access to tap water. No one is making you buy it and complaining that it costs you money is honestly silly when you have access to the same stuff without paying them money.

Want it to go away? Ignore it, and don't buy it. When people ask about it, direct them to the free stuff that's online instead. It's the only way GW will learn, by the community not supporting it. Complaining about it solves nothing, actively redirecting people to the free substitutes does.

I'm not saying they were all gold...but there was some good stuff there, especially for a new player. I got sucked into the hobby by the Warhammer Fantasy report on the latter half of an in-studio Border Princes campaign. It looked like a blast, and watching Jeremy Vetock's goblins fail forced march roll after forced march roll was hilarious. Sure, there's plenty of articles I don't miss, (mostly the ones I don't remember), but stuff like that was a lot of fun and should really have been kept around.

And bottled water is stupid too.

I mean, unless something went wrong with your pipes or there's a horrible drought or something (which, in this overstretched analogy, probably translates to something unfortunate happening to all the fun fan-sites? I don't know any more). Then it's cool. I don't mind GW selling stuff, I'll grumble about prices but it's a business, fair enough, but when it's the sort of thing that they put out for free a few years ago it makes me a little sad. Not that that stuff's gone, you can find most of it if you dig around with the Wayback Machine and the like, but that the mindset's changed and they likely won't do anything like that again. Not unless we shell out a few dollars, of course.

No, it's like going to walmart and complaining that there are bags of rotting food on the shelves, because you hate them and can't see how anyone would ever want them. Oreos are useful to some people even if you don't like them. This "tactica" garbage is only useful if you're a rabid GW fanboy who instinctively buys everything GW sells, or an unfortunate newbie getting ripped off because you don't know about all the free blogs and forums out there with better advice.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

To combine the analogies of this thread, it's really more like going to your local Walmart-equivalent and complaining that there are bottles of water on the shelves. You wouldn't say that Walmart selling bottled water meant there were Walmart "fanboys" who bought anything they sell, nor that the people who do buy bottled water are just getting "ripped off". It's an alternative you can choose to pay for.

To extend the analogy, the water bottling company is very clear in this case that they are selling the same water as comes from the tap, which is a little silly. And if you don't agree with bottled water anyway, that really doesn't mean it shouldn't be on sale. No one is tricked when buying it, they know what they're getting. I think this analogy has been run into the ground now
