I am working on an Arbites Sector House for a competition over on Terragenesis, and I thought I would share my progress here as well.

Smaller than the Precinct Fortress or Courthouse, but still a formidable structure, the Sector House will basically be an Arbites version of the standard Imperial Bastion fortification/scenery piece, maintaining a roughly equivilant footprint, height profile, etc.

These shots show the basic structure and a bit of early detail work. The primary structure is mostly foamboard, with some square basswood rods for the corner columns. The foamboard has had the paper peeled from one side to allow for a better texture. The decorative columns on the "front porch" area are from the cake decorating section of Michael's (a hobby store). The doors and eagle-shaped support struts are from Games Workshop terrain sets.

These next two shots show a slightly later stage in construction, with most of the detail work and bits attached. You can see where I have gouged out small areas of battle damage in the foam, and added some texture to the walls by rolling a tin-foil ball around on the exposed foamboard. The textured wood strips along each wall are small pieces of crown molding from the woodcraft section of Michael's (a hobby store). The buttresses, balconrailing, hanging lights and servo-skull watchers are from Games Workshop terrain sets. The Heavy Bolter emplacements are from the Imperial Bastion, and the small vision-slit hatches are from the Imperial Guard Chimera.

I didn't have room on the front of the building to put one of the heavy bother cowlings, so I dug through my bits box and found an old assembly that was supposed to hold a hunter-killer missile housing on an Imperial tank. I built a quick-and-dirty ammo box to give the heavy bolter more apparent capacity, and snagged a Servo-Skull from a Grey Knight Terminator sprue to act as the targeting servitor. I rather like the overall effect on this, as it give the impression that anyone who seeks an audience with the Arbitrators have to march up to the door under cover of this gun.

In order to get up on the roof, you have to have some form of access hatch, so I dug out a little square from the foam, surrounded it with a tiled plasticard, and built a hatch using more plasticard and plastic rod for hinges. A small handle from my bits box completed the effect.

The old-school Arbites logo is a winged fist, so I've sculpted fists onto some Imperial icons I had lying around (the larger one was a Dark Angels winged sword, the smaller ones were Imperial Eagles). I am no master sculptor, but my skills are slowly improving. I am pleased with how these turned out, especially considering the size. (The wingspan on the smaller icons is about 3/4".) These icons will be added to the Sector House once they have cured, with the large one sitting above the main door, and the three smaller ones sitting between and a bit below the vision slits on each other face.

It is difficult to see in the current pics, but there is a small cut-out in the wall above the balcony with two stairs leading down into it. I will make sure to get a better picture of that area the next time I post photos.

The deadline for the Terragenesis contest is Friday, so it should be painted by then.

Love it. You could use some zone mortalis tiles for the interior.

Thanks guys! Seems like the front-mounted Heavy Bolter is the favorite detail on this piece. I have to say I agree. It turned out really well. I am so glad the Bastion cowling didn't fit in front, or else I never would have thought of it.

I have managed to get the base coat done tonight. I am hoping to do some dry-brushing as well, so I can work on details tomorrow and Thursday. This angle also clearly shows the balcony access from the roof, with the small, stone-slab stairway.
