So noticed a lot of the darker themed models in the Warhammer 40k world have a lot of blood and gore effects put onto them to give them the even more "soil yourself scared" look to them if even encounter one in middle of night.
In the past when painting, was know around friends who used to also paint Warhammer & Warhammer 40k to being really good at doing blood effects. Since of being on DakkaDakka, can finally ask about if any way to inhance these effects even more? such as on weapons, scenery and other customisations on models and scenery.

I stole this from a guy who did amazing blood splatters:
Use green stuff to sculpt the spatter. Put a blob on the end and kinda pull it out (working on this, probably needs a bit of practice).
Layer Reds. I used red Gore through fresh blood from Reaper.
Gloss varnish. Gives the fresh blood look.
pleased with this first attempt

Ah I see, must get green stuff sometime. Being suggesting getting liquid green stuff and a small block of green stuff as well. Seeing that image and blood effect there, its certainly given me the reason to get some next time get money.

The cheapest way (what I do) is put a few drops of red paint just on top of the area were you want the gore effect and it looks realistic.

Aha will try that way as well sometime when I get one of my Khorne models.
Wanting to really make it stand out and that way sounds really good for large scale models

You might want to pick up one of the new-ish line of technical paints. When there is a pot with “Blood for the Blood God” on the side, you know you have found your answer. It’s a thick red wash that stays glossy and wet-looking when dry. Worth picking up and playing with.

Aha yeah I got that paint and being using it quite reacently, that has given my blood effects a next level of quality, but i'm also aiming for more realism looking. done that once with basic CSM mutated head with horn.
I'm aiming to be able to create to most realistic looking blood effect for any model so from minor weapon blood effect to a full body (so like Khorne full body blood effect)

Since the search function is down, I googled "dakka gore tutorial" which got a couple quick hits. There are a bunch of other tutorials if you search like that which should help you too if you want more info. http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Quick_n_Easy_Gore http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/446259.page Also this video shows a secret weapon wash and paint flicking for splatter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-cMVFdJB_o

Will give that a try Brothervord.
Will check out them links and see how they are, most likely try all these methods out on different models and see which emerges the most effective and standing out visually.

While I now use Blood for the Blood God for all my gorifying needs, an older trick I used to use was to really water down some red paint, sometimes mixed with a tiny bit of PVA glue for gloss effect, load up a large, preferably quite rigid brush and flick it with the edge of a piece of cardboard (as in, the card comes towards you, causing the brush to flick the other way when the card is removed). This gives a nice splatter affect which works nicely to get fast, random and natural coverage.

Ah that sounds pretty effective that method, will give that a try on a Khorne Berserker once I eventually get enough money to get one, so it can make it look more like a real Khorne followers.

One thing I forgot to mention is it's best to hold the brush at the angle you want the blood to have come from. For example, I did some Boarding Marines, and on one I angled the brush over his axe, so the spray went up his arm and shoulder, and on another, I did it over the edge of the shield so it formed a nice contrast as only the uncovered part of the armour was bloodied. I think it adds a real sense of motion to a model if you get the angle right.

Will take that into mind as well, just hope my angle aiming is good when doing the Khorne Berserker's.
May try for a downwards motion of the axe, so spraying it upwards diagonally.

That sounds good, anything that lines the axe blade up with where it's come from will create a sense of motion, if you see what I mean.
Another one of mine has his axe back and the paint splattered on the leading arm as if he's just shouldercharged something really hard.
Basically, just experiment, and it should turn out ok.

Will try experimenting and trying to remember how to flick paint into spray motion again, kept messing up or not even getting close to model in times i tried in past.
Aha that looks pretty good there Darth Bob, so many different means and methods to doing blood effects didn't fully know or know anything of until getting on here.

Tamiya Clear Red blood effects give a really convincing and authentic looking blood effect because the red is very rich and deep. There's really no better substitute, in my opinion.

QFT. It's easy to use and looks just great in small amounts. Only on larger models does it start to look a bit unrealistic.

I use Blood for the blood god, hoping to try doing the most realistic blood effect on my centrepiece models.
Will get to see a Khorne based Daemon HQ units that seemed to of bathed in it if I can get the models and once I actually get enough money saved for it.

This, used in small amounts it looks really good and it goes tacky like real blood. Was convincing enough to make a friend of mine think I'd hurt myself as I tend to use my thumb as a palette.

I know when I stabbed my thumb with a scalpel by accident, my CSM aspiring champion's horn with blood effect looked more real then my own wound did lol
Will give that Tamiya Clear Red Blood a try if can get a hold of some, as it looks very, very convincing and could use that for some more of my Centrepiece models.

Keep in mind to use it sparingly. In fact, use every blood effect sparingly. Too much and it can look tacky (as in bad taste) a ruin an otherwise good model.
I never coat weapons in it unless it's 100% necessary (e.g. a guy holding a severed head). My Gators for Warmahordes is where I've used it the most, but even then you put it on then stipple little bits off.
Like these two Wrastlers, I've used blood and gore around their mouths (a feature on all my Gators), but it's used sparingly, as not to coat them in it.

Aha I see, that looks very effective in that mouth area (as being Gaters, they would naturally have blood in their mouth).
Would use it sparingly as always ensured there is just enough blood effects on models, never too much as the weapons do look bad if too much is on there.

Yeah.. I like how the gw tutorial shows how to use it, but if you use a fine brush you can get real nice streaks and streams of blood
