I second the view (bottom of first page, I think) that the SOB looks like a bloke. To be honest, unless I could produce a costume that made me look like a space marine and not a blue storm trooper reject, I wouldn't bother.

Some cosplayers get it spot on though. Have you seen the dutch guy who made an exact replica spiderman costume? It took him two years or something, but it looked amazing. He even got the eyes right.

ROFL!

Ok, this thread is attracting a lot of haters now. There is plenty of funny ribbing going on. But there are a few too many guys out there that are going after the girl in the first pic for dressing up as a 40k character.

A) She dressed up like a 40k character... awesome!

B) She owns a leather bodice. Awesome!

I will issue permits for each person to continue ripping on these girls if you provide... a picture of your girlfriend/wife, proof that your girlfriend/wife owns a leather bodice, and proof that your girlfriend/wife doesn't think your hobby is a total waste of time.

Are there any Europeans who do this kind of thing at conventions (other than the odd 12 year-old at Gamesday), or is this just a Western Hemisphere thing? I've been to many UK game shows and never seen anyone dressed as such an arse! Maybe its just not a UK thing. Maybe the French and Germans, and even the Belgians engage in it and not being French, German or Belgian I haven't seen them...?

I mean I see nothing out of place in fit young female models walking around in spandex and laser guns. But overweight middle-aged roleplayers doing it is just so wrong and I have NEVER seen a Brit doing it!

When I went to London 2 years ago I met a few Naruto (which I wasn't familiar with at the time) and Final Fantasy cosplayers. There were somewhere between 14 and 17 I think. Appearantly there was some sort of convention in town, but it was my last day, so I didn't see anyone else.

Well you know, England. Inbreeding, lousy weather, weak beer, bed teeth. It's only to be expected.

At least they have real Internet over there, not like in China where every 2nd site gets banned because they know about human rights

Why should there be a marvel poster at a warhammer convention?
(Or in this case a geek convention.)

You know what I once had a dream I was walking in a mall dressed like a space marine a darkangel no less.

I know a guy who made an almost exact replica of the Batman suit from Batman Begins.

We were all hanging outside a bar one night with him wearing it when we see someone steal some girl's purse. He takes off after the guy(dangerous prospect there), who completely freaks and ditches the purse because Batman is chasing him. It was kinda awesome.

Oooh that was a low blow and Kid the inbreeding is strictly confined to Norfolk.

I hate people who dress up in costumes.

One time I took some lady's purse, and someone dressed up like fething Batman comes after me!

I just freaked out and dropped the purse. I don't mess with anyone who even looks like Batman.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

They have youtube vids and everything. It's amazing.

I bet you people all think you're "soft-as-a-kitten" hilarious. I guess it's some kind of a counterpoint to all the computer geeks laughing at Warhammer, or something. Laughing at fat people (in ridiculous costumes or not) is about as slowed as you can get while still remaining capable of actual speech.

Part of me says "SoB costume, awesome!"
The SCA part of me says "God, couldn't she have used some decent fabric that wouldn't tear so easily, or have that horrid shine?!"

That said, the only issues I have with cosplay or whatever is that people wear completely inappropriate clothing for their body, and go insane. There is something to be said for not dressing like a whore in general, and when your nylons stretch to the point they look like fishnets, you need to reevaluate your clothing. Not that fat people need to wear burkas, but people just need to realize that clothing that models can pull off does not necessarily work for everyone.
That, and it worries me when people make up completely fictional persona's for themselves, and talk endlessly about how cool they are and all these things they "did". There is something rather sick about that.
