It is the UBER BOX .

All 40K and WHFB armies with maximum units in all possible combinations, and an extra 358 pounds worth of random bits. Retail is 10% OVER what this would normally cost.

Codices and Army Books separate, but at a 1% discount if you buy the UBER BOX .

Mattlov that's insane and completely unrealistic. There's no way GW would offer a discount!!

Oh, I forgot to mention the 3% increase on package bundling for the codices/army books. Net 2% increase. That's it.

Seriously, could this be Space Hulk? So early, without any hints or leaked pics?

I'm staying tuned for sure.

Maybe they're making the assumption that it's never been done before for the current generation of players.

I mean, as we all know, veteran gamers don't really exist. They're a myth like the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot and non-power-gamer Tournament Gamers.

It's a clever idea to get people talking about it.

I don't know why anyone would buy a mystery box except if they thought they could sell it for a profit on eBay.

Unless you are a huge GW fan, there's a majority chance the box will contain something you don't want.

Also, a lot of people want Space Hulk and it would be stupid to make it a limited edition.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

This. Unless they totally mess up with scales droves of people will want to buy SH. Making it a limited release is pure idiocy.

If you remember when they had the earthquake and they sold all the bitz by the
bulk in order to start over, people ordered sacks and sacks of the stuff not knowing
what they would get.

Just goes to show the enduring atmosphere and imagery of Aliens. Deep down inside,

I don't remember that, however people would have known they were getting bitz. Any keen modeller can find uses for bitz.

In this case we are being told it is a mystery boardgame which doesn't belong to any existing faction.

If it's a WHFB I'm not interested, so there's a 50% chance I won't want what's in the box.

It was ALL their bitz.

Warmaster, Fantasy, anything that was in the catalog.

I seem to recall people logging in to complain that they got Warmaster.

So far, I'd have to lean toward this being marketing genius (okay, not genius, but reasonably smart) based on how some gamers are twisting themselves into knots trying to ascertain the identity of something that's so obviously Space Hulk.

Seriously, what would the interest level be if they just came out and announced a SH re-release? This mystery box thing has even those who'd otherwise be lukewarm or apathetic about SH at least a little curious.

IMO, the limited release rumor is something that's being dropped in order to create even more of a feeding frenzy for the thing. That's just a simple scarcity tactic. It might be true that it's a limited first run. But if it's worth their while, they'll do another run.

Space Hulk silly idea....they've had two releases already of Space Hulk I would have credited them with some genius not to go and rehash a old title.

Unless they did it with 3D floorplans and various add ons and the such then really I couldnt care two hoots this is one hobbist who wont be queueing up from 7am to get his hands on something he's owned twice before.

But thats just me.

Maybe it's a small bottle of Jes Goodwin sperm. That way we can create a loyal army of sculpting gods and create all the models we want. That would be awesome.

Sucks to be limited though, but Jes not Sly Marbo so I understand that he cannot supply us 24/7.

bols wrote:So the plot thickens folks. In a highly unusual marketing move, word is starting to dribble out of GW of a totally secret product that will be unveiled in stores in August. It is described as something totally new and unheard of, that will be a limited run. The current rumors swirling about are:

-Product announcement on 15-16th August, with a ship date in September.

-August/september they are selling a box set for around £50. (@$70 USD)

-It is a completely stand alone set that is not related to any race.

-It is something that GW has never done before.

-Some local stores are only getting one shipment; when that sells out it will no longer be available.

-You can't advance order it. You have to be there on the day to get it.

-It is not Planetary Empires.

-It is a board game.

-Very limited GW people know what it is. Blueshirts have indicated what they know and the Blackshirts avoid questions.

-Likely to be 40K related, but not definitely confirmed

Remember the BoLS article shared RUMORS about the mystery box. None of those "guidelines" are, or should be, considered entirely trustworthy. You could remove one or two of the guidelines and Space Hulk is perfectly reasonable.

The only other ideas I had (regarding the box) is that it is an Imperial Citizen's Game (40k Talisman), an Ordo Xenos Monster Hunter Adventure game, or a 40k version of Warhammer Quest.

Holy crap what if it is Warhammer 40k Quest? Electronic Portcullises (sp), light up gantry ways, etc...

What about a boardgame based on the Horus Heresy?

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Or still scowl at the memory.

Right. I have a suspicion as to what it is....

£20 says it's a Special Edition of Space Hulk with 3D Corridors being splash released ahead of a 2D Corridor set.

Regardless, I'm bagging two if I can! And panic not Dakka, seeing as I'm an all round nice guy, if it's half decent, I'd be happy to flog one on at cost plus P&P. Unless it's 3D Space Hulk in which case I'll keep both and you lot can get knotted

What if it is a Sprue Sale? Maybe you get $140+ of random sprues. Something for everybody. True it's not a board game, but it is something they have never done before, would justify the 'limited edition' statis, and would explain why it is being shipped in limited quantities.

My money is still on Space Hulk though.

"SOMETHING NEVER DONE BEFORE" leaves a lot of room for interpretation. They (whoever they are) could mean that one aspect has never been done before, or that every aspect has never been done before. By even suggesting "SOMETHING NEVER DONE BEFORE" they are being misleading. If it involves rolling dice, well that has been done before, if it involves miniatures, that has been done before, if it involves the 40k universe, OMG it has been done before.

I think we are taking the "SOMETHING NEVER DONE BEFORE" a little too literally. That is why I think it is a rehash of an older game like Space Hulk. Just new and improved with fancy new things that have never been tried before in a miniatures game before (electronic doors, lights, etc...).

The price is probably somewhat high for the cost of the production pieces. $70 leaves a lot of room for the imagination. If it is a boardgame then you can do a lot with a $70 price tag. Look at Descent, Talisman, or any of the original prices for the Specialty Game Range.

It is the first wave releases of WHFB Apocalypse.

Or perhaps they licensed the "Settlers of Catan" line and we will get "Settlers of Cadia" which is all Chaos invasion and killing instead of trade and building.

Actually, that might be fun...

Oh arr.

Spoke to my local 'Shirt today about it. He has absolutely no idea what it is, but they find out August 17th when it comes up for preorder.

He reckons it's some kind of Boardgame, given the price.
